I am beginning my search for mid Oct as well.  I think that poster that said you get what you pay for was rude.  We'd like to go in a few days prior but with those $$ rates, it's more than the cruise.  I'm going to look at some airbnb's..

Ok, me again.  So now seeing what all are saying about costs..... my husband said JUST PAY IT!!!. 

We are flying in Thur 10/13 for our cruise 10/16.  We will arrive about 1PM.  We've never been to Boston so want to get in some sightseeing.

That being said......is the Logan Airport area or the Seaport area best to stay the few nights?  We don't mind grabbing an Uber/Taxi to get back to the port.  Didn't know if the airport hotels have any shuttle services into the tourist areas..  Don't mind grabbing transportation for that either.  Just would like recommendation for where we are better placed for a few days of looking around.  Thanks much.

For sightseeing neither are perfect but the Seaport is better for getting to and from the major tourist areas than the Airport. The Seaport will also put you closer to the port. 

 

If your sightseeing time is very limited, which it sounds like it is, paying a bit extra to stay in downtown may be worth it to you. Faneuil Hall, Back Bay, etc are all areas mentioned earlier in the thread for this.

Ok, so I should look at Downtown hotels vs the Seaport?   Someone had mentioned those are generally older and not as well maintained ???..   Any suggestions for those.   We will try for the hop on hop off bus for one day as I think that will provide a good  opportunity to see many things.

For sightseeing, yes. This will allow you to walk to anything you would like to. And that is a poor characterization of the hotels-- some of them are older, but they are the nicest hotels generally in town.

 

A lot of luxury properties that have been well maintained. Some rooms, like in The Newbury (which is a former Ritz Carlton dating from the 1920s), are small, but they are brand new in that they were fully renovated less than a year ago. Another grande dame hotel, which is my personal favorite, is The Fairmont Copley Plaza. 

 

There are also newer, modern hotels like the W, Ritz Carlton, Intercontinental, Westin Copley Place etc. All of these are going to be more expensive than the Seaport, but most of the hotels listed here are of a higher quality than you will find in the Seaport (and will be priced higher). Just really depends if the price difference is worth it to you.

The HoHo can be fine for a quick visit but Boston is also one of the most walkable cities in the Northeast. You can check off most things by just walking the Freedom Trail. To save time you can take an Uber over to Charlestown Navy Yard to see USS Constitution but aside from that the bus might be overkill. You'll see more on foot with all the smaller streets that the bus cant access.

I haven't stayed at that exact hotel so can't comment there but the location is great. You are walking distance to basically any major sight you would want to go to and there are a ton of great dining options very close by.

Google Maps is telling me 13 minutes from Logan to this hotel right now (noon) on a Wednesday.  I stand by my "good 15 minutes" away.  Worse in rush hour, plus you have to wait for the shuttle

 

I'd suggest the 2 on property hotels, the Embassy Suites just off the grounds, the Garden Inn or the Courtyard just to the north on 1A or the Hampton Inn on 1A before I'd suggest the Comfort Inn, which is likely the next closest hotel.

It depends on which side of 1A and which direction, at which time.

Boston it's the major hub we fly in and out of for most of our travel. We always stay the night prior to a big trip and have never paid more than $300 a night (and that usually includes free parking for the duration of the trip, as well as free airport shuttles)!

However, there may be specific times when s special event blocks out many hotels.

 

As someone helpful noted, staying nearer to the airport is the good strategy. 

Hilton Garden Inn, Boston Logan Marriott, Comfort Inn are some very nice, modern, clean choices near the airport - with free shuttles to/from Logan.

You will need to taxi or Uber to the port.

 

We are not sailing until October 2023 but we are starting our research.  We are considering driving from Michigan. Can you recommend the hotels that include free parking during our cruise?  Also, do you know if any provide shuttles to the port?

The Port is near the major city hub. My recommendation would be to look at the airport hotels that provide free parking, and then take a taxi to and from the port - Logan Hilton Garden Inn, Logan Courtyard Marriott and Comfort Inn and Suites Logan.

There is a brand new Hampton Inn in the Seaport area next to the cruise terminal. We have friends who stayed there last fall who liked it very much. It’s a short walk from public transportation and access to downtown and Back Bay.  The Seaport area has many shops and restaurants, certainly more to see and do than an airport or route 1A establishment.

If you are still checking this thread, I would suggest that you do the trolley tour that leaves from the port.  I am not sure they are still offering these trolley tours but you could inquire on the website.  It is a great way for you to get an overview of the whole city.  You can get on and off and see sites that might interest you.  You can get off and visit Fanueil Hall (Quincy Market).  There are food places and you can do some souvenir shopping while there.  We live in the area and have done a couple of the trolley tours.  You might ask your cruise line if they know if they still offer the tour and purchase tickets while onboard.  You will already be on the ship so no luggage to worry about.  Stop #2 is the one for North End.  There is a designated place where the trolley would pick you up again. It's a great way to see Boston with only one day.  Hope you have a great cruise.

We are flying in to Boston the day before our October 23 cruise. We would rather stay closer to the port and not the airport. I don't expect a city hotel to be cheap so just looking for recommendation for a hotel that we can walk to some places.

This is exactly the tour that we will do the prior to our departure. This is a trolley tour , so no need to book it though Celebrity. I do all that myself by contacting the company directly.

Look in the seaport district.

 

Just note that weekend is Head of the Charles, so book something NOW. Don't worry about the price, just get a room booked.

Look at the Hampton Inn & Suites Seaport.  This is right next to the cruise line terminal and not far from the Silver line bus stop.  For those that are driving, the parking garage is right near this hotel and a block from the terminal.  It's the only one.

There is also a new Hyatt Place in the seaport as well.  That area of Boston has really come alive with restaurants, shopping and museums.

I didn't think they wanted cruisers parking in the EDIC garage at the port. I had no issues using the "official" MassPort parking with the shuttle in April.
