I wore a cloth mask with a blue surgical mask.  I removed my mask when I was eating or drinking and when outside. I spent a lot of time in the very crowded casino.  We were in the crowded Theater several times.  Our cruise ended 4/10/22 and I tested positive on 4/11/22.  My friend that was with me did not get sick.

Sorry to hear this!

My friend got covid at an outdoor concert, but dancing in a crowded area in front of the stage - lots of people, no masks.

Your double mask should have done the job, I think.    Wonder what happened.

Hope you are feeling better now.

Some masks may work some of the time on some people, but it isn't a fool-proof solution.

Thank you. I’m feeling better but still suffering from fatigue and shortness of breath at times. Maybe I caught Covid because so many others were not wearing masks? We were at a table for two nightly in the MDR but it was in a really crowded spot. People kept walking past that were not masked and we had our masks off while dining so maybe it was that? I wish I knew.

We had an interior cabin and my friend did not get sick.  Thank goodness but isn’t that crazy?

I hope your friend is better. Thanks again!

Exactly.  Also, I had my mask off while dining plus I spent a lot of time (masked) in the very crowded casino.  I wish I knew where I picked it up.

there's a small chance you picked it up in the casino, even though you were masked.    since (I'm guessing) others were not, after several hours, you could maybe get enough virus through your mask...) but most likely, as you suspect, in the MDR.    Darn it!

We have 2 cruises coming up this fall, and we really enjoy the MDR.....but looks like we'll have to do "take away" and eat outside, or even on our own balcony.    Sigh.   Then again, these 2 cruises are all about the ports, for us, so I guess that will be the price we pay.

Very glad you're better, but those lingering effects....probably will be gone soon; keeping you in my thoughts for that.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience.

Best,

Mary

I'm with you Mary.

We like eating in the MDR, but will probably avoid it like the plague.....er.... virus.... on our upcoming cruises this year.

Its a dam shame, but too much unmasking for hours, isn't going to cut it these days.

As far as catching it in the casino?  Theres a good possibilty of that, especially since

Princess is Still allowing smoking inside. 🙄

I'm bringing a few N95 masks for this purpose.  I will be garbed-up like hazmat. 😷🤣

I’m really not sure if it was the MDR or the casino.  I wish they would not allow smoking in the casino but they brought it back.  Take care and thank you for being so kind.

We are currently on Regal.

Basically, no one apart from crew are wearing masks.

No mask wearing on our flight, in Barcelona, in the terminal etc.

Looks like life is returning to normal at last.

Looking for Covid and Covid will find you. It is not a secret or rocket science.

Agree.....it is alive and well but to listen to some on CC Covid no longer exists on Princess ships and everyone is following the dress code and showing up in tuxes and ball gowns....#normal-life-again.

Just off the first Royal cruise last week. We kind of fooled ourselves into thinking that with it being the first cruise and all crew and passengers being vaxxed and tested it would be pretty safe. Also, we were traveling only half full so not at all crowded. I tried to wear my mask most of the time in elevators and in the theater. Thankfully tested positive for the flight home but symptoms were starting to appear. I tested positive three days after getting home as did my daughter and her fiancé. So far my husband and son remain negative and I hope it stays that way. A very high percentage of our roll call also tested positive upon return home. It is sort of upsetting after working so hard to avoid it these past two years but I knew traveling right now was very high risk. I also have plenty of friends who have picked it up locally via community spread. We had a wonderful vacation and so far my symptoms have remained fairly mild so I don’t have regrets. It is just what we all have to deal with given how very contagious this current variant is, unfortunately.

Went on a cruise in December 2021 and then one in February 2022. All protocols were mandated. No one got sick. Went on Caribbean Princess 18 day in April. Most people not wearing masks. Many large groups hanging out, many game shows / activities / karaoke etc (super spreaders). If you go to the roll call, you'll see many more than 2 people ended up with covid. Time for Princess and all other cruise lines to bring back strict mandates. It didn't hurt any of our fun the first 2 times. Put a mask on!

Don't beat yourself up over it.   Do you realize 60% of Americans have already gotten covid?    Look it up, I was amazed.    We are all going to get it eventually......we can run, but we can't hide.    I hope you feel better soon!

I'm back today from a 7 day cruise on the Caribbean Princess.  There was very little mask wearing.  We wore masks in the theater and whenever we were in a small crowded space.  I think the only way to be complete safe on a cruise is to only eat and drink outside or in your cabin.  We're feeling fine now, but there was a lot coughing on the flight home.  We wore masks but very few people did.

Of course an N95 mask is called that because it is 95% effective at filtering out the virus particles.

That means it is 5% ineffective. If anyone near you is (unknowingly) contagious with the virus, that person is 100% ineffective at not spreading the virus.

It's normal for normal people, but not for others.

@cruzin4usmakes a very solid point. The only thing I will add is each person’s immune system will play a role in whether or not you fend off the virus once you’ve been exposed and if a large proportion of passengers are masking the viral load will be lower making it easier to fend it off.

We can reduce our risk but not eliminate it.

on the current Ruby sailing more people are masking than when I sailed her April 23-30. I’ve long since given up worrying about if people are masked or not so this is just my off hand non scientific observation based on the places I go to on this ship. People who go to the theater or explorers (where I do not go) May very well have different impressions.

I was on this cruise and would be interested in knowing how many tested themselves and were positive after being home a few days

So impossible to know if they got it on the cruise or afterwards .... perhaps on the plane? Or at the store? Or the office? Yep. That's where we traced our family outbreak to. Not me on the cruise but son then grandson & granddaughter (still not me but she lives here) from his office

Point being it is out there and even if vaxed and boosted, if you're going to get it you'll get it. At least it seems to be no worse than a flu if vaccinated

Time to live with Covid-19
