I did several surveys of people wandering the ship and every time came to a figure of 60-70% wearing masks. I really think they should have stuck with so called “Mandatory” masks inside though some would still push it I’m sure.

Bottom line is that Cruising is risky for Covid transmission. We would consider doing another soon but not sure what we would do if once onboard almost no one could be bothered to wear masks inside.

Discovery April 24-29. Maybe, 10% wore masks (& that's likely on the high side). Glad it was only 5 days.

Just think you could then be giving the virus to someone else who may be vulnerable or have a family member who is vulnerable. Who might inadvertently give the virus to them before they knew they had the virus. You need to think of others not just yourself .

We too were in the May 2-14 Royal Princess round trip from Vancouver to Alaska. Our first venture out very far after two years of laying low but far from our first Princess cruise. An easy cruise for us since we live 20 miles from Canada Place pier.

Overall we were impressed. Crew was great as always. We found the food to be excellent onboard. No Covid for us during or after. We religiously wore our masks onboard in public areas until seated for food or drink. And we weren’t alone… I did several surveys of people wandering the ship and every time came to a figure of 60-70% wearing masks. I really think they should have stuck with so called “Mandatory” masks inside though some would still push it I’m sure.

Wow, 60-70%?!  On Caribbean Princess last week not more than 1-2%.  DH positive when we got home yesterday (drove home from port).  I'm neg so far.  I masked, he didn't.  Cruising is def risky for Covid.

Thank you for posting this response to @antsp. With his/her way of thinking, it is no surprise that this virus continues to affect so many since 2020.

Currently on Royal, departed Vancouver last night May 28th, disappointing to see so many people not  wearing masks indoors, was in an elevator tonight heading for dinner , this man got in without a mask , started to speak rather loud ( for my benefit)  , “ nobody is going to tell me to wear a mask “  It’s clearly marked at every elevator that masks MUST be worn . We will continue to wear our masks as much as possible , hopefully we will avoid getting this disease, I just wish fellow passengers think of others with their selfish actions.  . On a positive note , really enjoying the cruise so far , crew excellent , lovely dinner last night , hearing weather will be kind to us as head north .

I had a person say exactly the same thing on a elevator when we were on Discovery. I was the only one masked in a full elevator. Very obvious he was addressing me. It took everything I had to keep my mouth shut and not say something vile back at him.

The 'incentive' for reporting a positive test is to get that daily rate back as FCC. So if the cruise is 1400 for a 7 day cruise that's 200 pd FCC + associated port fees / taxes. Thats why I'm hoping someone comes back and let's us know if that is indeed what happens

Just curious though......how's that work if you are on a casino promotion?  Since those that are on the casino promotions only pay the port fees and taxes.   If they only refund the port fees & taxes, many people won't report.   I'm just guessing here, but that's my assumption.

Surely the incentive for reporting a positive test is thinking of others and not being selfish and inconsiderate.

We did a Princess cruise in Dec and masking was required and there was good compliance. We just got back from a 5 day Carnival cruise that was 100% occupancy and I would say maybe 2 people out of 100 were wearing a mask but it was a very young demographic.

Surely DO THE RIGHT THING should be incentive enough but for some out there, $$ incentive works (and its not just for cruising)

And what makes you think most people think of others and aren't selfish?.....It's an all about "ME" world as I've noticed more and more.   It's sad

And you would self isolate and take responsibility for those who may come in contact and become infected by you, right?

Surely you know that there must be many others who do not report...this poster just said it out loud.  A friend of mine just told me her sister had it onboard and didn't report it. It may be more common not to report than we imagine.
I guess at this point in time there are different ways to look at it. The strain out there is mostly Omicron which manifests itself as a bad cold...so not so devastating, right?  Then again, this is why there are still so many cases onboard.
I know some people who are more vulnerable due to co-morbidities or serious illnesses but I would image they may choose not to sail or at the very least double mask onboard.  Personally, I wouldn't take the chance and cruise at this time.
Not agreeing with the poster but just saying there are other ways to look at it.

That’s what happened for my husband after 6 days in quarantine. He got 7 days (the first day in quarantine is considered Day 0 but, depending on when you test positive, it can be a nearly full day not enjoying the ship) times his cruise fare per diem. He did not get a pro-rated portion of his port charges, taxes and fees back. The FCC was non-refundable and appeared in his Captains Circle account the day he was released from quarantine and required no additional effort on his part. It had an expiration date of one year from the date of issuance.

Close contacts do not get any reimbursements.

Both my husband and myself have not tested positive for Covid.  We have been on four cruises since Dec 2021.  We have both been vaccinated and had two boosters - tested before each cruise.

We are now going on a 10 day round trip from SF to Alaska in June.  Two days prior we are getting tested, then boarding a plane to SF and then boarding the ship.  If we get sick, where did we get sick ?

Did we have covid before we were tested, but it was too soon to show up

Did we have covid from the airplane ride

Did we get covid from the people on the ship

We are planning to wear our masks during our cruise.  I would like everyone to continue to wear the masks to keep from passing it on, but I don't control the ship.

I wear a mask to protect me and "you".

you are welcome !

From a thread on the Ruby, it sounds like they have access to Paxlovid on board.  Does anyone know if Paxlovid is available on all Princess ships in the event a passenger needs it?

How is OP doing?

We are in a hotel in the Seattle area. The Princess medical rep that the doctor on Royal told my wife to check in with, is nonexistent. Basically on our own, no guidance as to when we should end quarantine, so I just picked a day.

In the interest of brevity (and not to upset those who apparently do not want to hear anything negative), I will not go into detail about the disembarkation and transfer. However the comments I have heard from the majority of fellow cruisers at the hotel range from "the cruise from hell" to "never again".

We will be home in a couple of days and can't wait.

Will give serious consideration to our next booked cruise.

If you are flying from Vancouver to the US after your cruise, there is further 'financial' incentive to self test and self report while on the ship,  since this makes Princess responsible for your quarantine when you disembark.

The transported you to Seattle and quarantined you there? Not in Vancouver?

I'm curios, for those who have posted here who contracted covid, including the poster, were you all wearing masks ?

We were on a Panama cruise in March for 15 days, "wore the mask everywhere", except when eating in the dining room. The next day, after getting off the cruise, I started with a cough and headache. I was tested, and tested positive. 90% weren't wearing masks. 12 days later( at this point I tested negative and was fine) we did a 2nd Panama cruise( not princess) for 3 weeks. 95% weren't wearing masks, we were. The buffet area was serve yourself(not good). A week before the end, people were coughing all over the place. Not sure what it takes for these unmaskers to get it.You'd think they would stay in there rooms if they're coughing and such. But Nope.

if any of us knew when and where we got infected ,we wouldn’t do it again, but we’ve all gotta live life ,so on that note… I just find people asking that question ....

If/when I ask, it's because I want to know if there's anything else I could have done to mitigate getting in.  I'm going on Ruby 6/19...

Thank God we have credit cards with a lot of available credit, don't know what we would do if we didn't.

Yes, I was thinking the same.  Prior to my June cruise, I'm flying to KS and have prepared mentally that if I get covid, I'll need to be in a hotel for 5-10 days (or drive 1650+ miles home).

I'm glad they will provide something, but as we've learned from covid, folks often don't think of others.  I guess I better look into this "incentive" more just in case.
