dddone Posted June 11, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2022 I love Starbucks cafe mocha. When I order a Mocha it tastes nothing like I’m used to. No chocolate flavor. I’ve tried ordering with EXTRA chocolate and still no luck. I’ve tried ordering a mocha and a hot chocolate and then combining them. Does anybody know how to order a Mocha on Princess (I’m on the Regal), that will come close to what it’s like at Starbucks?

That’s an easy one go to the The international coffee bar tell the barista you like a cafe mocha just like the kind they make at Starbucks. 😳 😁 I told you it would be easy good luck and enjoy. Tony Ha, good one! Seriously though (and one must be serious about coffee!), my wife loves her Starbucks and it's tough to get the true Starbucks replica but you can get close by asking them to add one shot of espresso (so if you order a large which they do with 2 shots, order 3 shots). The issue is that the Starbucks espresso is much richer and I think a darker roast, with a distinctive aftertaste (which some people can't stand!). If you don't want that much caffeine, ask for decaf for the extra shot. You probably know already, but if Regal matches the newer Royals, you can also get your espresso drinks at the bar close to Princess Live.
latebloomer56 Posted June 11, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2022 I don't drink Starbucks ever, but I do love the IC Mocha Lattes. Doesn't matter which ship always enjoyed the coffee/chocolate ratio. My special treat every morning.
MissP22 Posted June 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2022 Can you find out exactly how Starbucks make it? The ship will do likewise providing they have the same ingredients.
skynight Posted June 11, 2022 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2022 Starbucks has the dark more burnt flavor coffee which some like and some dislike. Princess does not have this kind of roast. It is a more mild roast enjoyable to a wide population of passengers and crew. My suggestion is really the same as Lucky TGo. Just ask at the International Cafe if they can prepare something you enjoy.

Rare JimmyVWine Posted June 11, 2022 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2022 Princess does not prohibit or charge a corkage fee for bringing on chocolate syrup. So just take some with you and add to taste. I agree that since the foundational roast that is used on board is not the same as Starbucks, it will be impossible for the finished product to replicate what you are used to. But if what seems to be lacking is the depth of chocolate flavor, just add your own.
memoak Posted June 11, 2022 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2022 Wait and go to a Starbucks in port. Be advised that Starbucks in other countries don’t taste remotely like those in the states. LOL
Potstech Posted June 11, 2022 #10 Share Posted June 11, 2022 I enjoy cafe mocha's on Princess ships. Sorry but expecting a Starbucks made one one a ship is very disingenuous. It is like expecting a Big Mac on the Lido deck. Not likely.

The only time I have ever drank it was when there would be big cardboard containers at a meeting (back when I worked for a living 🙂) I did buy one for my wife once when she was in the hospital but that's the only time I ever bought anything from them. When my wife buys coffee at home she tends to get Dutch Bros. I don't buy stupidly expensive coffee at home. I drink coffee when in my own home and grind each pot fresh. (I still remember the days of spending long hours sitting with friends in a diner just talking and drinking coffee. The price was 10¢ and the refills were unlimited..) Nonetheless, it is obvious flavor cannot be replicated since the base coffee is different.

RNGALNG Posted June 12, 2022 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2022 We too are Starbucks mocha drinkers. When onboard, I’ve never liked them, no matter how they were made- more chocolate, add sugar, an extra shot. After several cruises, I just gave up and switched to a Carmel latte. My husband still gets the mocha. Someone else said they don’t taste the same in other countries. I was a Starbucks barista awhile back. They are pretty persnickety about their recipes. But yes, availability of the exact same ingredients my not. I’ve had them taste different in stores in my local area. Not a deal breaker. . . rdsqrl Posted June 12, 2022 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2022 I don't know why this thread has attracted all the never-Starbucks people. I myself don't partake in gambling, but I don't go to the casino-themed threads and post about how I've never been to Vegas. OP, as a Starbucks Mocha fanatic myself, I can confirm that, sadly, there is no way to replicate it onboard Princess. Their espresso is too mild and the chocolate syrup they use isn't as rich. The only hack I have is I always get it without whipped cream and with low-fat milk -- the espresso isn't strong enough to stand up to the extra sugar in full-fat milk and w/c.
kluv2cruz Posted June 12, 2022 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2022 Maybe helpful? On the Starbucks app it says it’s: *milk foam *2% milk steamed hot *whipped cream *2 shots espresso *4 pumps mocha sauce Is “mocha sauce” just chocolate or is it coffee / chocolate? In description it says “bittersweet mocha sauce”. Google tells me it’s like a chocolate syrup but made with strong brewed coffee in place of water. It goes on to say it’s made with: *1 cup cocoa powder *1 cup sugar *1 cup strong brewed coffee *1 teaspoon vanilla Boil, cool, refrigerate. That provides some clues why chocolate syrup in a latte isn’t going to taste like a Starbucks Mocha.
nini Posted June 12, 2022 #17 Share Posted June 12, 2022 So, I drink coffee and DH does not. DH drinks hot cocoa/ chocolate and after our recent experience on the Emerald (May 9-21), they do not know how to even make hot chocolate at the "Coffee Bar/ International Cafe". Poor DH tried and tried, but alas, could NOT get get enough chocolate in that cup to save his soul. They were cluless. It is not rocket science. They just were not willing to make it right. When we were on the Coral for our full OF transit in 2018, we found a staff member in th buffet area who knew what DH wanted and did so each morning.
