Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach

Always enjoy a Pina Colada on a ship, especially on a hot day. The Teddy Bears picnic was always an annual event sponsored by the library. It was always very popular. THere is also a song but it will stick in my head for days if I post it.

I did the antipasto kabobs for my appetizer for my July 4rth party. They were a hit. I wished I had thought of adding the croutons.

Busy week for me. I plan to finish the centerpieces today.  They are taking a little longer than I expected. But I was working on them last nite while watching the new Downton Abbey movie. LOL

THen I have to go pick up a "pack and play" and a highchair from a GF. One of the nephews that is flying in from Boston for the party has a 1 year old. Cant wait!

Stay safe and enjoy today.

Good morning. Getting packed up and will say goodbye to son and family until Thanksgiving. We are in no big hurry as our lodging for tonight is not available until 4 PM and just a short drive up the coast.

It has been a great week enjoying family in this beautiful state. We are already planning another trip here next year.

Thanks for the Daily Fleet report and Daily contributors.

Good morning friends!  It's a sprinkle here and there morning here.  We've had quite a bit of rain here the last few days.  Thank you Rich for our Fleet Report and Daily.  I like the days.  Kittens 🐈 are great, and Teddy Bear Picnics are too. I enjoy a pina colada occasionally, usually on a ship.  The antipasto kabobs look interesting Debbie @dfish.   And picture #3 of the kabobs is so pretty!  No thanks to the wine and drink.  Kristiansand, Norway is an interesting little town.  It was last posted here on July 24, 2021 and I can repost my photos from then.

Thanks Roy for the Care and Celebration lists.  Many prayers for all who are listed and in need. 🙏 Yesterday twin tells me there were several family memebers visiting Buddy and Amy to say their final goodbyes.  So twin stayed home and will go over today instead.  I don't know if her hubby is negative yet but it should be any time now.  Congrats to all on our Celebration list. 🥂 I hope all our cruisers are having fun and staying away from Covid (wish I knew how you're supposed to do that on a ship!).

Jacqui @kazuI really hope the dog rescue works out well for you, as well as the pup.  Sorry the pizza was burned.  They should have offered you another or at least a discount.  DH would like your crispy (burned) pizza because he likes them well done.  🍕  I think the scarf from @Horizon chaser 1957Laura is wonderful!  Such talent!  And thank you Jacqui for the super memes today!  Jack @HeartgroveI'm glad to hear your DB is home now.  Great news.

Off to get my photos now.

In 2016 on our Prinsendam "Greatest Norway Cruise Ever" we stopped in Kristiansand.  Weather can make or break a port stop and this day was a wet one.  At first it was sprinkles so we donned our rain coats and headed out to see another beautiful Norwegian town.  We had determined this day would be a walk around day and didn't schedule a tour.  If you are planning to go there you might look into what is available to tour.

It was sort of desolate at first.  I don't know where everybody was that day.  We walked towards a beach area on our little map.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI22bGqj_BMxx4G2R2ZLwO7?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

We had to head back to the ship because of the rain, and change clothes for lunch as our legs were drenched.  In the future I would learn to wear waterproof pants over my jeans to keep me dry.  We went to lunch in the dining room and watched the rain come down sideways outside.  It had turned into a completely miserable day outside.  But lunch was great!!00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI_zwJm6ZfhG_JAPbqhueKm?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Is there anyone who can really resist the cuteness of a kitten?  I'll enjoy a Pina Colada once or twice on a BHB; pretty sure I'd like a Mai Tai, too.  There are lots of teddy bears in our son's old room, enough that we could have a great picnic.

@kazuyou gave us a teaser yesterday with the tetanus shot, but I didn't want to bug you online, so waited until today to hear the story.  YIKES!  Sorry you had such a day, but glad it's over with now.  If you feel the time is right to bring a new dog into your life, then go for it - pets can provide healing in a number of ways and you'll be doing yourself and the dog a world of good.  The only thing I worry about is when you leave on cruises, if the new pupper has trust issues, will he/she be okay in pet care?

@Horizon chaser 1957thank you for sending @kazuthe beautiful scarf on behalf of all of us.  Your work is so pretty and I know how much you put of yourself into each piece.

@HeartgroveI'm happy to hear your brother got home - let's hope he can be comfortable there.

We had another hot day yesterday, but this morning we're waking up to cloudy skies and a possible thunderstorm around noon.  Our normally dry prairie air is thick with humidity and it will be a relief once the rain comes.  There was another storm cell that blew through yesterday, but fortunately we only had a bit of wind, nothing more.  About 2 miles from here at the big box store, the wind and hail was so strong, people couldn't get to their cars and once they did, they found them all pitted from the hail.  The insurance companies are going to have a busy week ahead!

I like today's menu suggestion, and will keep it as an idea for a hot summer evening meal, but tonight DH has requested that we order noodle bowls - something we haven't had for quite a while.  I'm sure he will have a vegetarian bowl while I'll enjoy the barbecue chicken bowl with Vietnamese rolls accompanying both.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra for the people of Ukraine for their continued bravery.  We'll raise the glasses to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay well, wear masks when needed, get your boosters, and be safe.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

@kazu I'm having second thoughts about the dog.  I wonder if there is enough time between now and your cruise to be comfortable leaving the dog with a sitter.

@ger_77 you mentioned the Rogers outage yesterday and it actually made our news today.  So sad.  When my cell phone was with AT&T it was Rogers that provided my roaming service.  I also think of Rogers frequently from the connection of Janice of Come From Away.  I hope the problems are fully resolved soon.

Thanks.  They say widows should wait a year to make a major decision like selling a house, etc.  I do lose focus at times still so I am a bit concerned about that but the dog is not scheduled to be shipped until August 1st.

meanwhile I have already made a $4K decision on maintenance.  DH and I both wanted it done so I don’t think it’s a major decision 😉

Jacqui — my DH was in finance and the “year” rule was definitely for major financial/life changing decisions.  That is for all people suffering a loss — not just widows.  The exception, of course, is for the surviving spouse who cannot afford to stay in his/her home.  You will make the right decision concerning a new pet.  It is whatever is right for you.  Best wishes.  Katherine

I was relieved to see the recipes for antipasto kabobs, because I couldn't understand how they would work -- I was imagining grilling them. I'll pass on the mai tais, and also on the macaroni and cheese since I'm lactose-intolerant. Dinner today will probably be black beans and rice, with a side of spinach.

I haven't been to Kristiansand but expect to be there on the Voyager of the Seas on August 31. I've been studying Norwegian on Duolingo, and while it seems easy in the lessons, I gather that the actual language situation in Norway is chaos. In the lessons, I've learned how to ask a lot of questions that would be silly even if I could understand the answers, plus "The bear is eating the moose" and "The bear is not reading a book." Of course not -- how can a bear read a book while eating a moose?

A supermarket trip is imminent because I'm out of vegetables, except for spinach. There is a small but very good farmers' market on Monday -- specialist and organic growers -- but I'm moderating conference sessions on Zoom all afternoon. I ought to be able to get to the Friday market that is now on Tuesday after an acupuncture session.

Good morning all!

I adore kittens.  We raised our last cat with a bottle from the age of 10 days (she was abandoned).  She lived to be 17, so I guess we did something right. 🙂  Will pass on the Pina Colada (not a fan of coconut) but there are definitely enough teddy bears in our house for a picnic (or two or three).

Agree with the quote, pass on the wine and have never been to this port in Norway (thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisersfor the great photos).   The drink sounds good but will pass on the meal.  Not a fan of olives, pepperoni or salami.

Debbie @dfishI'm excited for you!!  Will you be posting occasionally?

Laura @Horizon chaser 1957what a lovely gesture and beautiful scarf!

Jack @HeartgroveI'm happy to hear that your brother is now home.

Jacqui @kazuI hope today will be better!

Today will be a day of errands and shopping. The wine rack is getting low for one thing. 😉😄

Back on May 3rd, I asked the Daily readers to recommend a can opener that would actually open cans. Thanks to @StLouisCruisers, @Cruising-along, and @canadarocks for their suggestions. After researching the options, we settled on the Starfrit model recommended by @canadarocksAmazon.com: Starfrit Securimax Auto Can Opener, Silver/Black : Home & Kitchen

It works like a charm every time we need to get a can opened. It has already lasted longer than most can-openers we have tried. I am hopeful that we will still be celebrating this purchase on August 24th, when National Can Opener Day rolls around.

Love that we can always trust the advice of the readers of the Fleet Report and Daily.

Good morning everyone.Went for dinner last night with two other couples and ate outside under a pretty tent at an Italian restaurant about 20 minutes away. As we were leaving I couldn’t believe my grandsons were sitting at a table a few feet away. They were with their dad and his sister who lives in Virginia. I hadn’t seen her since my big birthday party 3 years ago. It was an unexpected surprise .

I love the quote about books. I’ve always loved reading and have belonged to several different book clubs over the years.

Jacqui, follow your heart about the dog. My sister in law got a puppy right before her husband died. She loves having the dog but every time she goes somewhere she either has to board the dog or depending on how long she will be away find a neighbor to come and feed and walk him. Only you can know if you want this responsibility right now. There are no hard and fast rules about how long to wait. I know they say a year but some people are ready before. Good luck with the decision. Heading out to the pool today.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

A hazy day here in upper Michigan.  A day of gardening ahead which is a relaxing day for me.  Both cocktails today are favorites of mine but the sugar content makes them a rare treat.

@kazuif you can get the rescue dog settled before your cruise it may be a good change of pace and bring you back to the happier Marley days.  My husband passed away in April 2015 and as I spent that summer at the cabin by myself I decided my happiness would come from being in Michigan full time. When I drove back to Maryland I broke down in tears at the state line returning to a state that wasn't my own.  I made the decision to go home to Michigan in August and put my plan in place to prepare the home for sale and list it March 1. If sold in 5 days. The work of cleaning it out became my mission plus cleaning and staining exterior places that needed it.  In less than one year from my husband's passing I was back home in the embrace of my three siblings nearby.    Instead of a 2 day road trip to the cabin it is now one.  The one year guide all depends on careful reflection.

Prayers for those on our Care list and for the people of Ukraine.  Thank you for the daily reports.

Strange how a simple thing like a can opener that "works like a charm" can make  a person sooo happy!😊

Thank you for the photos Sandi, even though it was a wet day. Our Scandinavian/Norway cruise next summer stops in Kristiansand so it is nice to be able to see what it looks like.  Have not yet made any decisions on what to do in that port.

I received a text last evening from a relieved DSIL that my brother was home! We were all elated.

What wonderful news!!!

If you feel the time is right to bring a new dog into your life, then go for it - pets can provide healing in a number of ways and you'll be doing yourself and the dog a world of good.  The only thing I worry about is when you leave on cruises, if the new pupper has trust issues, will he/she be okay in pet care?

I will be talking to my dogs’ vacation home person - Debbie.  I need to a) make sure she could take it next year  and doesn’t mind this year (I hadn’t cancelled Marley yet - I cancelled Miko’s but everything happened so fast and I was so sad, I couldn’t pick up the phone)  b) she is willing.

She’s used to rescues and knows how to take care of them.  She won frightened Fox over in 24 hours.

@kazu I'm having second thoughts about the dog.  I wonder if there is enough time between now and your cruise to be comfortable leaving the dog with a sitter.

I think she would be ok assuming she gets here at the beginning of August.  Of course, I have no idea what the plane trip will do to her 😞

I did fully disclose I was going away to the rescue organization.  It doesn’t seem to be a concern to them so far but I have yet to hear from Anna in Egypt who has her.  That will be key.

Debbie if willing is excellent with frightened rescue dogs.  Her heart goes out to them and she knows what to do and how.  Assuming she is willing.

Thanks Katharine.  I too was in finance and it’s sound advice.  I guess my friends feel a dog is a life changing decision whereas I do not as I have not been without a pet for nearly 5 decades!  But, I do have some thinking to do.

Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Rich.

Nice collection of days - who doesn’t like kittens or teddy bears or picnics?  Pina coladas can be very refreshing on a hot day.

I like the quote by Eliot.  Intrigued by today’s meal suggestion.

All bad things happen in 3’s, right? Here’s the very long story:

When I was doing the 2nd batch of jam a few days ago, I felt like Jose was here watching me and smiling.  It was an eerie, nice feeling.  Well, I think he came back on Friday angrily.  He was “saving” stuff and I am working on getting rid of it.  I was ergonomically moving a speaker upstairs from the basement which had seen better days and had a dolly at the top to put it on.  Put the bag on it first (stupid) and turned it over and plopped it on the dolly and it bounced and hit my toe cut the nail and needless to say a bandage was called for.  I think Jose was mad at me for getting rid of it.

In the morning I re-dressed it and Jose had trained me well enough on that and to think on my tetanus shot and I realized it was over 10 years so off I went to be safe.  I attempted to hobble in the garden a bit yesterday but rested it quite a bit.

That same night, I confided to a few that I had been approached to rescue & foster a very special Baladi dog.  Canada is closing it’s border to over 100 countries’ dogs (including Egypt) on September 1st so time is of the essence to get her out of the country.

She needs work for her fear and trust so won’t appeal to everyone.  I’ve done that before with Fox and other rescues so my heart went out (pretty sure @durangoscotsgets that) and focusing on helping someone else is better than focusing on me, I thought.

My friends told me I was crazy - too soon.  No changes for a year.  Now I am second guessing myself.

With a very sore toe, I decided to treat myself to a pizza (following in @ger_77‘s footsteps).  Burned to a crisp.  Sheesh.

After that, something good had to happen right?  Well, it did.  I received an absolutely beautiful scarf from Laura@Horizon chaser 1957with the sweetest, kindest note.  She sent it as a token of love from the Daily family - but it is her work and her thoughtfulness.  ♥️ I have no idea how she got my address - but she did.

I love it and colours I can wear.  I do believe it might be travelling with me 🙂

Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and a 🥂 to those on the Shout Out / Celebratory list.

Have a great Sunday everyone !!!!!

Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷 when / where needed.

What a lovely scarf!!! And yes, I can identify with the dog situation. Sometimes a situation or a dog just speaks to you.

.... and speaking of dogs... my two need to go out. It is a good thing I live in a condo or I would have many. I have had as many as 5 at one time in my condo.... but I am not too old for that. My neighbors always said they would cover for me if someone complained, but no one ever did. Those black scotties all looked alike and I was lucky none were barkers.

Love the days.... teddy bears and kittens in particular. However, if I ever get a cat it will be an older one. Right now we are loaded with kittens at the shelter. Fortunately their area underwent renovations a couple years ago but we need to reduce the numbers. Too many Mama cats did not get "fixed" during the pandemic.

Off to work on the house.

Thank you for the Sunday report, Rich.  I think I'll pass on all 3 of these days although kittens are nice, just too much of a responsibility for me.  Love the Eliot quote.  Been to Norway but not Kristiansand.  I think I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Tim Hortons Chicken Noodle Soup and Panera Macaroni and Cheese, my choices on July 10, 2018, as I arrived in New York prior to boarding trains to Vancouver and the Volendam.  Sadly, Timmies did not survive the move to Moynihan Train Hall and I think that Panera closed a couple years ago.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily and to all contributors.

Kittens are cute, although I've never had one. Pina Coladas are a favorite of mine. I've never had a teddy bear picnic. Great quote.

I like the meal, drink and wine (but too $$$).

I've never been to Kristiansand. Thanks for the pictures.

It's sunny, mid-80's here. I haven't been outside yet. My right eye is very irritated. I'm not sure if it's a flare; I think yesterday while doing yard work, I was sweating and sweat/sunscreen got in my eye (I wasn't wearing my visor that usually stops it from getting in my eyes). I'm putting in extra steroid drops anyway. BFF is coming over later to help me hang a porch decoration (that was a Christmas gift from him).

@cat shepard Cute meme.

@grapau27 Thank you for posting the sermon.

@kazu Sorry to hear about the toe, and I hope it's healing nicely. I had to Google Baladi dog; if you feel ready, maybe you are. Such a lovely gift from Laura @Horizon chaser 1957

@Heartgrove Good to hear that your brother is home.

@StLouisCruisers Continued prayers for Buddy, Amy and the family. Thanks for the great pictures of Kristiansand.

@mamaofami How nice to run into family unexpectedly.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast for the Celebration List.

Stay safe and wear your mask if needed.
