The Fleet Report and Daily for Tuesday July 12th, 2022

Another nice warm (for us, at 84 degrees) day here.  I am waiting for the repair person to show up to replace the motor in our heat pump.  It failed after 21 years.  Can't like the quote for today.  If everyone was that selfish, we would have no military.

I grew up on a 40 acre farm and we had cows for about five years.  My father finally got rid of them and concentrated on raising and caring for thoroughbred horses.

About 20 years ago a friend helped me replace our skylight.  Took two people and two ladders, but was fairly simple job.  Of course, I was twenty years younger 😄and our roof isn't very steep.

@durangoscots  I am so thankful that only your glasses were broken.  You are totally correct that we aren't getting younger and these kinds of mishaps get more serious as we do age.   A friend of mine fell off her porch and broke her hip.  This was in January and she sat out there in the driveway for 45 minutes when a neighbor heard her yelling for help.   I did get myself the Apple watch mostly for the feature that it will make a call in an emergency situation.  Living alone I need the back up.

@grapau27 So sorry your Sarah has Covid.  I hope it is a mild case and she bounces back quickly.

Good afternoon. Happy Tuesday.

Thank you to Rich for the Fleet Report and the Daily.

I like the days.

I really appreciate cows mostly for the products we get from them.  Milk and cheese, etc.  I am not a fan of red meat, but many do.  So cows are an important part of our dietary needs.

Etch a sketch.  I’m sure I had one as a child.

Paper Bags.  Well, here in Beaufort County, plastic bags are no longer allowed.  So paper bags are in abundance.  Also reusable bags are encouraged.

I am a bit confused with the quote.  I have read The Notebook and seen the movie.  I am trying to figure out where in either the book or the movie that quote would fit.

I have to skip the meal as pesto and my tummy do not get along.

However the drink and wine both sound good.

I have been to Whitehorse.

Thank you to @rafinmdRoy for the Cares and celebration lists. And Condolences on the loss of your cousin,.

Prayers to all those on the cares list, especially Buddy, Tana, and @Heartgrove’s brother as well as nephew of @HAL Sailer.  @grapau27 Prayers for your Sarah that she recovers quickly from Covid. @durangoscotsSusan, hope you heal from your wounds from your fall.  How wonderful that your neighbor came to your rescue.

@aliaschiefglad you are on the plane.

Cheers to all who are celebrating and cruising.

Hope all have a wonderful Tuesday with sunshine and clear skies.

God Bless,

Terri

Good morning Dailyites.

Prayers to all on Roy's thoughtful list. I brought my prayer book with me and added Sarah and @durangoscots. Prayers for Buddy, Amy, Tana, Sandi's twin.

I loved playing with cows when I was younger. In the winter my dad would help our friend and farmer milking cows. I hugged them while they were being milked.

My sister has something going on with her eye and we are looking for an eye doctor here on Maui. It's very swollen and painful.

Sending all blessings, love, prayers, and cheers.

Good morning and thanks all!  Have been to the Yukon but not Whitehorse, so nice to see the photos. Sorry to hear of even more Covid cases.
@durangoscotsyikes,. Hope you heal quickly.
@Seasick Sailor the good thing about Maui is the number of great doctors and specialists, so hopefully your sister will get quick treatment.  When our son was little there was a pediatric cardiologist at the walk in.

We’re  under a heat warning, so finally summer (although auto said simmer)  and thankful for the AC.  A few cows from Switzerland, England, Italy

I hope your sister finds a good doctor and gets her eye taken care of properly.  It's unfortunate when we have health issues while trying to have a nice vacation.  I know you will take good care of your dear sister, Joy!  Prayers for you all.

I worked this morning, had one sale, which is good, walked the dog, made the lunch, and sat down to find out all sorts of things.

@durangoscots I am so sorry to read about your fall.  You know about the one I took two years ago, and not only does it make you feel frail, but you look at everything a bit differently.  I am so glad your neighbor found you, and that the dogs were not traumatized, and that nothing was broken except the glasses.  And as I told Roy yesterday, I wish there was a hug option button.  Cause you cant hit a like on that one.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I love that weathervane!   I showed it to DH and he said, good imagination, and great ball bearings!

@kb4683 Ah, the desert in Car Cross.  The real reason we took the excursion we did.  There were two young men on the bus with us, who offered to take our picture by the sign, in the rain, but when we got back on the bus, they hadn't taken the picture, and it was a missed opportunity.  Our tour guide didn't think the desert was that exciting, and he didn't want to stay longer than it took to take a picture..

@grapau27Send Sarah our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

@Cruising-along Options for the destruction of the the skylight.

If it had been a bullet, you might find the bullet in the floor under the sky light, or in the gutters along the house..  If not found, go on to other theory-a crow was on the sky light, and saw a sparkly beneath him, and attacked the window for the sparkly.  However, crows while undeterred by challenges are not stupid, and would not have totally destroyed the window.  So here is option 3, one clear night while everyone was asleep a lonely star fell to earth, looking for a place with warmth and comfort, and found your home, and entered through the sky light.....or it was a meteorite the size of a grain of sand that hit the window and burned up so quickly it left no evidence. (same thing)

My dad took many pictures of me and cows, smooching over the fences on the back roads near South Woodstock VT.  He grew up on the Upway farms , which is now the Green Mountain Riding Association stables.  They raised Morgan horses.   cows he liked, he thought horses were stupid.  Btu then again, if that's how you make your money (his father was farm manager) and the horses dont behave, well...

Have a great afternoon all!

It is so easy to have an accident when you miss a step.

Sending you our best wishes.

Our Sarah rang last night to say she has Covid.

Oh dear, I hope it will be a mild case. It just seems to go on and on and on.........

Good afternoon, Dailyites! I think cows are sweet (those eyes!) and appreciate all they give us. A few years ago I found the Etch-A-Sketch I played with as a kid and contributed it to the thrift shop. I hope some little one enjoyed as much as I did. If I forget my reusable bags at the grocery store, I try to remember to ask for paper bags rather than plastic, if they're available way. Either way, they cost 5 cents apiece! Does anyone else remember using paper bags to make book covers for school?

Prayers for all who need them, and a heartfelt "Hurray" for all who are celebrating!

I remember doing that - covering the books with paper bags.  Did it for my kids too.

Didn't want to like your post Graham, with the news your Sarah has Covid.  Seems like everyone knows someone ( or many someones) who are positive with Covid.  What a crazy world we're in these days!  I hope she is having a mild case of it and negative very soon.

Thank you Friends for your concern over our Sarah who has  Covid.

She tries not to worry us but she was poorly last night and she currently lives on her own so we are always ready to drive the 17 miles to her house if she wants anything.

Graham, I'm sure you and Pauline would drive to the ends of the earth to help out Sarah.  Lucky young lady!

And you did a great job multi-quoting too.😊

I love the products that cows provide including the “waste” products as DH studied non-point pollution from dairy cows as a grad student. Prayers for all, including those with Covid-19. My 102 year old DM tested positive 7/1 and is recovering from a mild case. Thanks to doses 1 & 2 and a booster (and her great DNA and attitude!), she says that aside from a good bit of fatigue, she is fine. Thankful that one of my sisters is visiting til the end of July. I am hopeful that I can make quick trip to see her in early August (summer in AZ 🕶)  and again for a long visit in September.

Good afternoon.  Even when trying to stay inside, I had to make two forays outside.  One to bring the garbage can in from the curb and the other to the cluster mail box to get the mail.  Even though there is a speed limit in our little community, I will admit I went over the speed limit in the golf cart to create a slight breeze.  It helped a tad bit, but it is still hot outside.

Tonight, we will be having comfort food for dinner.  I'm making chicken with rolled dumplings, Watergate salad and collard greens.  In other words a good old southern dinner that @Seasick Sailor Joy's husband would probably enjoy.

@Dr.Dobro  Welcome to the Daily.  I hope you will join us again.  I have a friend who loves all things related to cows, and she would love to stay in that Airbnb.

@kb4683 Kay, thank you for your pictures.  We drove to Alaska once at the end of May, and the rivers were still frozen in the far north, but we didn't see the snow you saw.

@durangoscots  Susan, I'm glad you were not seriously injured, except your pride, last night.   Thank goodness your neighbor arrived soon afterwards and came to your rescue.  Dogs have a sixth sense when they are needed, and Bandit and Monty showed that last night.  It alsot shows that Monty has settled in and is now a member of the family.

@grapau27  Graham, while I could not like your post, thank you for letting us know that Sarah has Covid.  Sending positive thoughts that she recovers completely and quickly.  I also know you and Pauline would do anything for Sarah.  Frankly, I don't understand parents who abandon their child for any reason.  For the last seven years and for the future, your and Pauline are Sarah's parents in every respect.  She is a very lucky woman.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, how awful your sister is having a problem with her eye.  I hope you find a doctor and that he has a quick fix.  At least, she is in good hands with your care.

@TiogaCruiser  What is it about men and new gadgets?  🤣  Your sky light sounds like a good solution for Arizona.  That was one option we ruled out for our place in Quartzsite.

@NextOne  Edi, we used paper bags for book covers when the ones we were given at the beginning of the school year wore out.  The ones we were given had ads from local businesses, and the teachers were not happy if we turned the covers wrong side out.

@marshhawk  Ann, I had to laugh at your DH's comment about good ball bearings.

@Norseh2o  I'm sorry your DM had Covid, but that's good news she is recovering except for the fatigue.  That's good that your sister is there to help her.

I remember you mentioning that in the past, and believe I would find it very uncomfortable having them as next door neighbors.  I wish you luck in avoiding them.  Hopefully they will decide to move sometime soon. LOL!  Your home and garden are so lovely, I'm sure I wouldn't want to be the ones to move away if I were you.

Thank you for your kind words Lenda.

It is their loss as Sarah is a lovely caring girl but they are to selfish to care.

We love her and she loves us.

We have lived next door for 40 years and won't move.

We have had a few uncomfortable moments with them.

Before they ignored Sarah I had paid for flights, luxury balcony cabin 30 night cruise and stay around Australia and New Zealand and gave them spending money out of my share on the sale of my late mam and dad's house for his 60th birthday 8 years ago.

I hope your leg is comfortable today.

Prayers 🙏 for Buddy.

I just finished going through my pictures from Whitehorse and Carcross, an found a few more.  They were taken on motorhome trips in 2008, 2011, and 2019, and on a cruise on Amsterdam in 2010 when, guess what, we rented a car and drove to Whitehouse and Carcross..  All our other trips and cruises to Whitehorse were pre-digital.  Unfortunately, my pictures of downtown Whitehorse are all pre-digital.

I'll start with pictures of Whitehouse and the Yukon River at Miles Canyon upstream from Whitehouse.   The pictures of Carcross will be in another post as soon as I get the chicken cooking.

We'll start with the Yukon River and an overview of Miles Canyon and you can see the bridge that spans the river.

The bridge.  In 1992, our dachshund Brandy did not want to walk across the bridge because of the spaces between the board;, so naturally, the boss was carried across both ways.
