The worst cruise we have experienced.

Ihave to fly wherever I go and the ports are the destination, not the ship.

After 35+ cruises in the Caribbean, the ship is the destination for us and if cruises to nowhere were available, we would book them in a heartbeat.  18/19 current cruises we have booked are all on ships that are under 5 years old.

Ports will become important once we start cruising across the pond, but we haven't gotten there yet.

While we cruise the newer ships too, I actually don't like their layout--no promenade deck and very few areas where you can actually see or connect to the sea, as well as tiny balconies and sometimes confusing layouts as well.

There are new builds that will have what you're looking for.  The NCL Prima and the Celebrity Beyond are two that come to mind.  But if you wish to stay in the Princess lane, then you're relegated to the older ships.

Same here. There are only so many times you can visit a rain forest, see the monkeys or buy more T shirts. 🙉

At my age, I am just happy to be on a ship.  Ship destinations 35%/Ship experience 65%.  I stand by my loyalty to Grand Class ships over the Royal class.  We will age gracefully together.

We actually like all the different ship layouts but prefer the Royal class buffet & Piazza, if they could only quiet it down somewhat. It's music is much to loud, but then all the ships are to loud. 🙉

We sail lots of different lines, so have sailed some other new ships.  Very few have a full promenade anymore.  We like Princess, and have good status with them, but they are not our only or even first choice. Price matters too though and Princess often has great prices.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry this happened.

Note to self:

- Avoid Caribbean Princess

- If need arises, park myself at Guest Services until a Supervisor can authorize a new cabin!

Hope you're able to plan a new celebratory trip!

My new list...avoid Crown and Carribean.

What is CB?

a typo. I meant to type CP for Caribbean Princess. I don't know the actual abbreviations, but I thought CP is enough, since the original post of this thread is about Caribbean Princess.

Was I concerned?  No, I did not run up to my muster station with my life jacket.  I looked at it as an experience that I would never have had.

having shoes and clothes soaked with sewage is also an experience we've never had, but I am very much looking forward to never having it.

If all of that had happened to me......epecially the sewer leakage on my shoes and clothes!!!  I would have freaked out and went and slept in a public area.  They definitely would have moved me.  No way would I have stayed in that room for even a day.

According to the chart, cp is the sea princess, and cb is now a Caribbean princess, so I am pretty sure you got it correct the first time.  Hope your next cruise on the Cwhatever is great

I am surprised that GHM or Housekeeping supervisor did not send your items out to be cleaned before you had to pack them.  That's the very least they could have done.  I agree...not a "good" experience.

Some of these acronyms make no sense whatsoever.  Regal princess is GP and Grand princess AP?  And what’s with the KP?  There is no K in crown princess at all.  I guess they are trying to get cute with CP because you pronounce it sea p?

When the Crown came along, code CP was already taken for the Sea Princess.  And I am sure the Sea Princess did not get the SP code since that went to the Sun Princess (edumacated guess there without checking it).  the KP wasn't a bad choice since the "C" in "Crown" sounds like a "K".  Hence, I think your idea of why the Sea Princess became CP makes sense - pronunciation.  The fleet was smaller than as well.

I think "RP" was the original Royal Princess.  And the moniker was re-used for the new Royal.  Also, I believe the old Golden Princess had the GP code.

So, knowing the history, that explains why Grand could not use the G or the R, so they went to the A (at least the A is a long A sound in word Grand???).   When the new Regal came along, they gave it GP.

So, far not so bad to figure out their logic.

The newish Sky Princess had both the S and the K taken, so it became YP.

I am not sure why Majestic became MJ.

And it gets murky with the newest ships - Enchanted and Discovery.  EX for Enchanted?  Why not EN?  And Discovery is XP.  What's with the X all of a sudden?  I think they must have given up on coming up with more codes ending with "P".  I would have named these two "EN" and "DS" in lieu of using the X.  But what do I know?  I'm just wasting time here on CC.  LOL.

Okay thank you. There is an airline forum you can hardly even read with all the abbreviations they use.  Do you know if there are other acronyms for say Royal Caribbean or Carnival ships?

You REALLY want to avoid ever going into a Walt Disney World or Disneyland Forum.....

According to Wikipedia history of Princess, the Golden joined the fleet before the Grand.

Well, I guess that depends on which Golden Princess.  The Grand Princess joined the fleet in 1998 and was the first of the "Grand Class" fleet.  The Golden Princess did not join the fleet until 2001 but this was actually the second Golden Princess.  The first Golden Princess was originally the Royal Viking Sky and was part of the Princess fleet from 1993-96 when it was sold to Star Cruises .

Yes, there was a Golden Princess from 1993-1996.  She started life in 1973 as Royal Viking Star and ended life a Boudicca for Fred Olsen.  The Golden I refer to was built in 2001 and now sails for P&O-Australia as Pacific Adventure.  EM

And so what was Princess' reason behind getting rid of the Golden and keeping the Grand?

Grand has no middle staircase from Deck 8 and above.

Grand does have Alfredo's.

I believe (but can't remember) that the Golden had a slightly different public area configuration.  Deck 6 (Fiesta Deck) had the Crown Grill, Captain Circle Office/Cruise Consultant office, excursion desk, and larger/open space and Casino was on Deck 7.

The Golden also had Sun Deck suites and Skywalkers.

Yeah, but the Aussies and the Brits are allowed to have those dangerous, fire hazard electric kettles in their cabins and the supplies are replenished daily.

I have no clue but I guess you could ask Jan Swartz.  My speculation is that with the growing Royal Class fleet, management decided they had more ships than needed (at the time) and management decided that the Aussie market needed more berths (especially with the Sun Princess pulled out of that market).

We have cruised on the Grand (many times) and the Golden (only once) and enjoyed both vessels.  But as Princess continues to add newer (and more efficient) Royal Class vessels and have two huge (and even more efficient) Sphere Class ships coming, it was logical to lighten-up the fleet.

I will miss the Golden because we liked the Grand Class ships with all weather pools.  As frequent cruisers of many lines, Princess has done some things with which we disagree.  We do not like the elimination of all-weather pools (with a moving cover) and the shrunken balconies on the Royal Class.  Another big issue is that Princess designs (Grand and Royal Class) seem to have a goal to deny passengers nice sea views.  They are the only ships we cruise that do not have a forward-facing public lounge!   While I do love sitting in the atrium near the International Cafe, it is more like being in the lobby of a Hyatt Regency than on a cruise ship.  When we cruise on MSC (Yacht Club), HAL, Seabourn, Celebrity, etc. we can always spend time in lounges with wonderful views of the sea.

I suppose everyone has their reason for liking an older ship but the aging problems come along with it and you should be prepared to accept them from time to time.

Though I have encountered problems on new ships as well. Things happen.
