richbum Posted September 1, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2022 Going on the Pride in January....Can you tell me the good...bad...and ugly? Can you go up front to watch sail away? Post links to your reviews...please and thank you!
pacruise804 Posted September 12, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2022 You can try searching for @Jamman54reviews. Pre-COVID he had several good Pride reviews (I have just started looking at Cruise Critic again so there may be many since then too). On YouTube, ParoDeeJay also has good videos of Pride.
sunonfire Posted September 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2022 We were on the Pride January/February and in April. We are also booked for January. We had great experiences on both cruises. The crew were fantastic, friendly, helpful and constantly cleaning. We really like the Serenity Adult Pool. The Spirit class ships are really easy to get around. The main dining room let the 6:00 fixed dining enter as early as 5:30. There was a limited dessert menu in the dining room not as many choices as before. Portions are smaller. Cookies were scarce in the evening at the Lido. If you asked someone they would always bring you some. My favorite sweet offering are the muffins in the morning at Lido. I would take a couple for dessert in the evening. There were more comedians and comedy shows during the April cruise. One comedy show was held in the main theater. We enjoyed the SeaDay Brunch. We enjoy the afternoon tea and the veterans appreciation. We only sail from Tampa on the Spirit class ship. We find the cruises to be an older crowd lots of seniors. Basically it will be a very relaxing and peaceful cruise with plenty of activities if you want. We also like the cruise director Frankie Portera. He is very down to earth and not annoying. We had our cabin stewards clean in the evening but I did get fresh towels from him in the morning. I hope you enjoy your cruise in January on the Pride.
Rare PrincessArlena'sDad Posted September 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Sunset garden deck 3 forward. Great place to relax and read. Very quiet. Try the green slide. Sports deck and sky deck are best spots for sail away Serenity pool is the best pool on the ship. If you can't find a table in mermaids grill, take your food outside by the venus pool. It's not too windy and easier to find seats.
asalligo Posted September 13, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Pride is still my favorite ship and in my opinion the best design in the fleet still. I will cruise her again in December. As soon as she returns to Tampa November 10th, I will be watching reviews for current shows and activities. I will be happy to report back once we return. nycruise3 Posted September 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Pros: Three-story gym Free Asian Lido station called Chopsticks (my favorite Carnival lunch option) Free indoor hot tub in the spa, unlike some other Spirit class ships The retractable roof over Lido deck in the event of rain Two nearby pool areas on the Lido so it is easy to switch between the two Not as small as Fantasy class but not as large as Vista class or Mardi Gras Lively and comfy ocean plaza area Galley is on deck 1 so there is no worry about a no-access section on a main floor Has a Dive-In Movies, unlike some other Spirit class ships Green Thunder slide is a great way to conquer fears Spirit class offers some inside rooms with an obstructed view, which is like getting an outside for an inside price Cons: No mongolian wok/Jiji Asian Kitchen (but imho Chopsticks is way better anyway) Feels more rundown than newer ships Older Playlist Productions shows Green Thunder slide is probably not something you will try more than a few times and the Twister slide is very very very slow The Pride is the ship I have sailed on the most, with 5 sailings under my belt along with one on the Miracle for comparison within the Spirit class.
richbum Posted September 13, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Thank you all!!! I can't wait to go. The last cruise I went on was on the Destiny...so it's been a while. For sail away, we went on deck 6 (I think) and went through the "secret doors"...can you do this on Pride?

sgttami Posted September 13, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Pride is the only ship I've sailed on 7x from Feb. 2018 to Jan. 2020. Crew was great. Met a lot of people that I still keep in touch with. Not overwhelming in size. Ken Byrne made the dining experience great. Good casino hosts and hit a lot of hand paid jackpots before the machines all went to video slots. Cherish the memories because it will never be like that again and I'll probably never sail Pride again. FUN, FUN. FUN! Glad I had the experience!
richbum Posted September 16, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted September 16, 2022 When we went on the Destiny (our last cruise) We could go up to the front of the ship through the "secret" doors...Can you do that on Pride? If so, where do you go?

If so, where do you go? Doing this a tad out of memory. My recollection is that access to the front of the ship is above the bridge on about #9 or #10. I don't recall traditional secret doors to deck areas forward below the bridge. That certainly still exists on Sunshine class and Conquest class vessels. Access via spa entrance then down the hall. Steam and saunas, also free access to everyone, in the spa/gym locker rooms.
Normie22 Posted November 7, 2022 #14 Share Posted November 7, 2022 Does anyone know if the pools remain open on port days? Myself and hubby don't always go ashore when ship is docked other than to wander about the dockside shops for an hour or so. On the Miracle back in 2018, we did this but found that the pools aboard ship were closed and not available to those of us who chose to stay aboard. I was most disappointed and hoping the Pride does things differently.

Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted November 7, 2022 #16 Share Posted November 7, 2022 Here's my lengthy review from my recent 10-day cruise on the Pride, which had the best itinerary I've ever sailed. Note the review is heavy on photos, light on comments (except food, history, culture and bidets). Hope you enjoy.
Rare Eli_6 Posted November 7, 2022 #17 Share Posted November 7, 2022 I was on her in July and, if I am honest, it was not the best experience...BUT many of the problems were related to tendering (which probably won't be an issue on your sailing like it was on mine where most of the ports were tender ports) and you will probably have different crew by the time you are on. The ship is older, but I did really like the layout. It was easy to get around on and I never felt crowded. In particular, I really like the layout of the rooms we had which were a Vista Suite attached to a rear facing balcony. It had a separate living area from the bedrooms which was nice.
Normie22 Posted November 8, 2022 #18 Share Posted November 8, 2022 Another question.... On a standard bacony, what deck furniture is included? If there are chairs, do they recline? How many deck chairs are there? Is there a table? Thanks 🙂

One of the chairs can recline slightly.
richbum Posted November 30, 2022 Author #20 Share Posted November 30, 2022 I thought I read somewhere that some of the ships have a game/card room...or at least some available to take back to your room...Is this true on the pride?

asalligo Posted November 30, 2022 #22 Share Posted November 30, 2022 Unfortunately, many things in the Pride will be different than just weeks ago when she was in Europe. I am checking daily for any updates post November 10th.

There is the "Crystal Card Room" located on deck 2 forward, Starboard side, just outside the Taj Mahal Lounge. It has about 6 card tables, none larger than 4 people. There are some board games. I remember it having Connect 4, Sorry, Battleship, Clue, some version of Monopoly, and a few others
