With Clear, the Clear rep checks you ID vis fingerprint or retinal scan.  TSA person only looks at the boarding pass, but does not scan it.

That was what was odd in Nashville - there were no greeters - just signs.  That was the first time I had encountered that.  Maybe the greeter had stepped away for a moment.

The agent at the entrance to the queue asks to see a boarding pass, but when you get to the  station where the TSA agent checks your ID, they don't check for it.  I know that in the past they scanned boarding passes because I'd have to place my phone face-down on a screen.  But at least since COVID, I've not needed to show a boarding pass there.  I'll have my ID and paper boarding pass or app screen at the ready and the agent always says only my ID is needed.  This is out of BHM, ATL, BND, MDW, ORD, MCO, BOS, LAS and several other airports I've flown out of.

Wow, that's got to be a record.  I know people who have waited months.  I have heard some people don't get called for an interview or CBP is even doing video interviews.

Always been asked for a boarding pass and ID, otherwise how would they know you're a legit passenger to be allowed past security?  My boarding pass is either on my phone or on paper.

Unless you routinely fly from one of the CLEAR airports, they are limited, it doesn't make sense to pay for CLEAR and TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry.  You are right on that the extra $15 to upgrade TSA to GE is money well spent, even if you only use it once.  Last time I thought about CLEAR it was really expensive and at that time it wasn't at Sacramento.  It's still not available in about 15-16 states.  My GE with TSA Pre works fine.  The few times we have flown from SFO, especially international, I do see where CLEAR would be of benefit.

Perhaps because it was a renewal? My friend I’m traveling with in January had hers approved right away also and received an updated card within a month. My daughter applied for the first time and is going to do interview upon arrival when we return from Australia.

I'm on an expat FB page for people living in Mexico and almost everybody has GE/Sentri as it saves hours crossing into San Diego.  I can tell you people complain about months long waits just to get conditionally approved (I have been waiting 11 months) and then months longer to get an interview.  I don't think being near the border makes a difference on the conditional approval, but being away from the border does make a difference on getting an interview appointment.  I haven't heard of anybody not getting an interview.  A few have gotten video interviews.  Sentri is a lot harder since there are fewer interview locations than for GE.  The interview upon return option is great if the GE office is open when you come back.  Some have limited hours and days they will do GE interviews.

I'm with others in that I have never had them NOT check both the boarding pass and ID.  At MCO (which I flew out of about 2 weeks ago), as well as several others I've been to in recent months, the machine that scans the boarding pass is at the station where the TSA agent checks both your boarding pass and ID.

All of these have been the same experience I have had at several airports...agent checked both boarding pass and ID.

We flew out of FLL this past October on the way home from a cruise.  We were escorted to the TSA desk by the Clear person and all we had to show was our boarding passes.

My friend has dealt with eating disorders because of her weight issues and, despite losing weight, she still sees herself as overweight and is embarrassed to divulge her weight, even to her husband.  So, what a couple of you seem to think is so trivial is something very painful to her.  Now I’m sorry I asked.  She was right, people are judgmental of people with weight issues.

Interesting.  It was Oct. 1st when we flew out of Nashville and I had my boarding card (had printed to when we did bag check at the Southwest kiosk) and my passport in hand.  The TSA agent said "I only need your passport".  I'm flying out of BHM and Tampa week after next so I'll report back what happens there.

I wear my hiking boots on every trip I go on as we always are off on a hike somewhere and they are too big for luggage.  I have TSA precheck and never have taken them off except for 2 international flights to Europe.

As someone who rarely pays for anything "expedited," Precheck is completely worth the $85 for a 4 year membership. If you're going to buy it, I'd pay the $15 more for Global Entry. Having it when you need it is great, and it's also another backup ID in case of emergency. Even better, if you travel often, get a premium credit card that will include both of these benefits. Precheck is starting to get a little busier in some places though. I think it is underpriced. It should move to $150+

 

With that said, CLEAR is still a colossal waste IMO. It's $189 per year to have a marginally better check-in at most airports and maybe save you 15 minutes at the busiest ones. If you have the American Express Platinum, it will include it, and I would do it then. Otherwise, I would stay far away from CLEAR. The benefits vs value of precheck are sufficient for me.

Last few times flying out of BDL, they have not asked for the boarding pass, only ID. In fact the scanners aren’t even there anymore.

 

In MCO, they did ask for and scan it.
