Not exactly "locked down". According to the article, those who tested positive were in quarantine for 5 days and the ship is proceeding to other ports.

Misleading headline.

The article is from that well known bastion of truth,  the Daily Mail !

A paper that never lets the truth get in the way of a good headline !

They were docked in Broome, but unable to get off. Says they were made to stay isolated for 5 days, until virus circulates through the ship.

So, do they sit in Broome now for 5 days?

Wonder what happened to the Majestic on the crossing.

They had 124 cases and they were self testing every week and showing results to their steward.  Almost didn’t get to stop in So Pacific island, until last min, when they tested everyone OB.

Oh what fun these enhanced voyages are.

Ohhh my!!!   This is why we are still hesitant to book a cruise other than a shortie.

More days onboard gives it more time to run thru the ship.  I would rather be positive after leaving the ship than quarantined onboard for days.

More cabins for us!  Thanks!

These days the main difference between a long cruise and a short cruise for the percentage of those that catch covid is on a long cruise you test positive on board, on a short cruise you test positive at home or in the hotel after the cruise.

The reality is on a cruise ship with the number of people and most protocols gone you will most likely be exposed and if you catch it or not is how your body handles that exposure.

We got covid on the Royal in August. Now that we just got our 4th booster and have some added anti bodies from the infection we feel as protected as we could be. We have around 50 sailing days booked from November to September

Oh for crying it loud. The Daily Mail is worse than the National Inquirer . The ship is NOT in lockdown. Some of the pax and crew ( about 1 out of every 280 people on board) are required to quarantine for 5 days. That's all. The ship is continuing  its itinerary. Pax who aren't ill are continuing as usual. The whole thing is one big nothing burger. Having Covid on board is nothing new, and has been a constant since the restart. Nor is it a Princess issue, but is spread across all lines. Enough already.

Just off  both Coral and Princess  obeyed the mask rules and did what we were told and of course we washed often  and luckily (or by design) we still have never had the dreaded Covid (and also never in 80 cruises got Noro virus either)

I don’t know any doctor who would prescribe Paxlovid for someone who has not tested positive for covid. It does not prevent infection but does lessen the symptoms.  They have plenty of it on board

We asked our doctors and they said no.  Unless we test positive would/could they write a prescription and then even then they would be hesitant because of side effects.  But they would not let us have it to travel with as a precaution?

A more nuanced article (perhaps) from Australia's ABC:

COVID-19 cases confirmed aboard first cruise liner to dock in Western Australia after two years - ABC News

The confusing part is Princess and State authorities pointing at each other in terms of whose protocols they are following, to wit (WA being Western Australia):

"WA Health has been advised of passengers and crew testing positive to COVID-19, and this evolving situation is being managed by the vessel operator according to its COVID-19 plan"

(emphasis added), versus:

"A spokesperson for the company operating the vessel, Princess Cruises, said a rise in COVID-19 cases aboard was being "managed effectively" in accordance with national and state protocols."

Perhaps there will be more excitement in the media when it arrives in Fremantle ... being Princess, and being WA, it's almost a sure bet.

Coral Princess is not trapped in Broome. She is sailing off the coast of Western Australia, and is scheduled to arrive in  Geraldton on the 27 Oct at 0800hrs AWST, UTC +8. We will then find out if the Emperor of WA aka the Premier (and also the Treasure) Mark McGowan will allow the passengers and crew to visit his fine city.

I have friends on board. Only the ones who tested positive are in isolation in their cabins for 5 days and were not permitted off at Broome. The ship was only there the planned one day and is now on its way to Geraldton, West Australia. It is on a 28 day Australia circumnavigation, Sydney - Sydney.

Suffice to say there has been some irresponsible journalism reporting this issue, but what is new?  The positive cases, both pax and crew have been reported to Western Australian Health Commission, but numbers not disclosed.

You can follow it on the Coral Princess Live thread on Australia/NZ section of CC.

Thank you.  That’s normal protocol to isolate those with covid. Duh!

The media is something else.

Don't worry, they are already ramping up the fear for the next port of call (bear in mind PerthNow is a total rag):

https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/7-news/coral-princess-covid-outbreak-cruise-ship-leaves-broome-bound-for-geraldton-c-8651697

It will be a frenzy by the time they arrive in Fremantle... WA, State of Over-Excitement.

PS> The only thing that will relegate the story lower on the page will be if Tash Petersen gets her kit off again...

Absolutely correct.

Anyone who wants to read the latest from the ship check out this thread on the Australian and New Zealand forum.  I'm following it since we will be on the same 28 day cruise (going in the opposite direction) in April. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2886587-live-from-coral-princess-round-australia-october-2022/

This is the latest post (20 minutes ago):

The Captain has just made another announcement about the Covid situation - a reality check on the media reports.

Although he didn't give the exact number of cases he did say it was a small number and that the medical staff were in control of the situation. He reiterated the need for people to follow the Covid protocols.
