Minor problem questions

Hello, we booked months out aqua class on the Beyond.  We talked my elderly father in law in coming on the cruise and he finally said yes.  Aqua Class was over 2k more for him, he is single/widow so he chose a regular verandah balcony.  The problem, I was so excited to go to Blu and now it is a waste as I won't be going but oh well, it is what it is.

I was assigned anytime dining and he is late dining which is too late for a 86 year old man and we have him waitlisted for anytime which I doubt this close to our march 19th sailing it will come through.  Question, if he comes with us as we also have anytime dining and linked our two reservations together and I have chosen the dining times got my reservation in the MDR would it be possible my father in law be able to have dinner with us, say around 7:30-8:00pm even without having a reservation?

Our muster station is in the casino, does anybody know where his muster station would be D1?

I have a 11am check in time, and it was not available for him, he has a 12 check in time, there is no way he can go by himself, he needs one of us to help and he uses a walker, do you think they allow him to be with us at our 11am check in?

I appreciate your help and thank you.

Just to note, while the Beyond is all "Anytime", if you are in Aqua, your assigned dining room is Blu. You will need to discuss with the host/hostess there that you wish to eat in the MDR.

Maybe others will offer opinions on this....(Im sure they will)

Maybe ask Blu host if your father can join you in Blu?  Maybe just once?  I don't know how careful they are with that. Might be worth a question. If not, just a suggestion.

Blu is quite strict about not allowing guests who are not in AQ to dine there (with the exception of suites, which does not apply to OP's father-in-law).  Any chance you can change your cabin to a balcony and thus save some money that you could use for a dinner with your FIL in a specialty restaurant?  That's certainly what I would do in this case.  It may even be possible to get adjoining cabins.  Seems to me the idea is to spend time together.  You can do Blu some other time.

The location of his muster station will be shown on the back of his cabin door and on his sea pass.  Help him do the video on your phone or his phone and then help him get checked in at his muster station.  It's easy if you've done the phone thing.

For Muster Station -  Get the App -  On the screen with Daily planner -  Slide bottoms over to Safety -   It will tell you your Muster Station and if you click under picture find on Deck Plan it will show the location on the deck plan

You know, it doesn't hurt to ask, thank you.

They won’t allow it. Blu is for Aqua class passengers and occasional suite guests only. It is one rule they strictly enforce.

I will ask anyways, my father in law is 86 can't see them wanting us to not experience one night of blu and leave him to dine alone.  The worst that can happen is they say no.  Honestly, I am looking at the menu's of Blu and the MDR and honestly I don't know why people rave about Blu the menu's are about the same, nothing special to be honest there and in the MDR since they changed the menu's in January.  I am on a comp so if I don't eat there, no big deal, but would like to try it once to get a personal feel of it....we shall see.

As my DD always says, it’s always “no” until you ask! If the ship isn’t full, you might get lucky.

Exactly, one of my mottos is open your mouth and ask, you have no idea how many things come my way when I do.  The ship is not full....I even would dine at 8pm when its not as crowded.

Is it possible for the FIL to put in a Move-Up bid that would be less than the $2k to move to Aqua? Would OP be able to help financially to increase the odds of that happening?

I do not pretend to know the family dynamics, nor if this was already tried. I mean no offense, I'm just offering a suggestion of what might be options.

They won't allow it for a single passenger, I called and I said he pay for double, but they don't send them they said for single passengers.  the cruise for him was $3600 around there for the infinite verandah, we told him 2k to get him to go, we putting in the rest of the money plus we didn't book all perks because that would of been 4888.....dad doesn't drink much, so we also paid for the premium internet package and already paid for the tips so he thinks its included.  We also told him we paying for the hotel the night before the cruise.  LOL

You really gave great options thanks you so much.

I thought that solo passengers could participate in Move Up by paying twice the bid amount.

I hope that the cruise works out well for all of you.

I wish we could talk my dad into coming with us sometime. He can afford it, we just can't seem to convince him that he would not be a burden or distraction. I'm so happy you will have this experience. Enjoy!

That was our problem also!!!!  He has to walk slow and with a walker, and needs to be by one of our sides when he walks, goes into the elevator, needs to be guided as he gets nervous not knowing where to go to get somewhere like the bathroom, etc.  We are like you, we don't mind and don't consider it a burden like he thinks.

Covid kept him scared (unlike me, a rebel lol) and home, he won't even go to the grocery store, we did the shopping, picked up his meds, do everything for him but we thought it was because of covid, now that covid is lets say disappeared, he now tells us the truth, he wants us to have a good time and not worry about him.

Its no problem at all, in fact, my husband and I would have our down time together, as he likes to go back to the cabin to rest or take a nap between 1-4 and right after dinner he likes to go back to is cabin and relax, read, play online games on his computer and watch tv.

I gave him the talk how it be nice to all be together, that we are all getting older and none of us know if we have a tomorrow.  I tell him its nice to create memories together and he is depriving us of that by not coming with us.  We told him we are driving to the port(we generally fly from north florida to south florida) and told him about the new muster drill that he no longer has to go somewhere and stand etc. its easy peasy.  He finally said yes sunday so I booked him up immediately and told him its done.

I do hope your dad reconsider and go, blessing you all.

And, offer up lots of sugar.... his age, one time, loving the cruise, not busy time, offer to pay.... Ask first day in case it's OK.  And that gives them max flexibility.  Ask about their country and or home.  Staff loves when you try to connect with them on a personal level.

But, I defer to others saying it may not work.  Can't hurt to ask kindly.  You just never know.

I feel for your situation but I wouldn’t ask for him to dine in Blu.  You are putting the staff on the spot to break their rules and policy.   If they do allow it just once it now opens the doors for others as past experience.   If they can why can’t we do it?

One night in Blu I heard the couple at a table close to us tell the Maitre D that they heard someone asking about bringing some friends into Blu that were in a regular cabin.    The host said she would arrange it.   The Maitre D said to them that it is strictly enforced and if he see it happening she would be fired.  They have that policy for one of the reasons you encountered, others have paid a lot of money for that privilege that were In the same situation.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
