@Woobstr112GThank you for sharing so much of your time and the details about  your experiences on this sailing. I was to be on this trip as well, but canceled back in January. At least I was able to participate vicariously through your detailed reports. I have enjoyed reading along with you.

I hope that you are still able to enjoy some of  the amenities while still on board - room service, beverages of your choice, movies, ocean views and fresh air? Take good care! I hope you will remain comfortable and in good hands until you disembark to go home.

Good evening from the Royal Princess. Well the dreaded last night night is here. Sorry my reports have slackened, but yesterday and today I've felt like crap. Chills (they are the worst symptoms) come and go and this dreaded dry cough. I also am going through bouts of having very little energy to do anything. It was quite a chore to get our checked luggage packed or to even type this post.

With the exception of testing positive for COVID, I've really enjoyed this cruise. The crew was top notch. Everyone seemed genuinely happy and loved doing their best to make sure we had a great cruise.

I'll write a review later when we get home and I feel a little better.

That's all for now. Next up is Hawaii in October on the Sapphire in the GS.....

From the description of your symptoms it appears your case is worse than the two B2B cases I experienced.  Mine were both quite mild in comparison...nothing more than a minor inconvenience.  I took Paxlovid for the first which got me through but also may have precipitated the second.

Nan and I wish you a speedy recovery...

Bob,

So sorry to hear about what you are experiencing. I do hope the flight home will be quick and you can get home soon and recuperate in your own home.

Take care.

I reported it.....

Very admirable Bob, though all of us should (and we would hope) would do the same.  My wife and I wore masks in crowded spaces on the ship and when getting food at the buffet.  I know some feel that masks are inconvenient, but they really work and are very reasonably comfortable for us.

We noticed people coughling and only a few wearing masks.  It seemed those openly coughing were never those wearing masks and we are sad that one of them, or someone in the weeks prior, spead an ilness that limited your enjoyment of the ship.  Get well soon.

Bob…hopefully you’ll soon feel better without any long term affects & that Holli won’t become infected. I’ve been lucky to avoid it during 3 post restart cruises & last summer my wife had a mild case. Hopefully you’ll soon fly back to Prescott Valley where many of your fellow brothers reside.

Thanks Frank. Your words of encouragement are much appreciated. We just got home an hour or so ago. When we arrived, I gave Holli a test and she was positive…..

Sorry to learn that Holli tested positive & hopefully it’s just a mild case like a cold that my wife had last summer…take care.

Hoping you both recover comfortably at home.

I do have a question/concern. Because you tested positive for Covid, did you and Holly wear masks departing the ship, going through  the airline terminal,on the plane and transportation to your house ? So many areas where germs can be spread.

I am assume that you did wear masks as you are responsibly minded people.

An early good morning from the Royal Princess.  We are sailing towards our final port stop of Cabo San Lucas. We will be here from 0800 -1700 and this will be a tendered port. While in Cabo, I am going to try and hook up with a former coworker who is sailing on the Carnival Panorama. They will also be in port from 0700-1400.

Yesterday was our stop in Mazatlan. Holli's back was bothering her so we unfortunately did not get off the ship. We ended up just hanging out in the cabin and later enjoying the Suite happy hour in the Concierge lounge.

For dinner we dined in the Crown Grill. Holli had the Surf & Turf (which she enjoyed) while I initially ordered something listed as a 16oz "Beef Chop." It was basically a very thin bone in ribeye. I know food is a very subjective issue, but my steak was truly bad and inedible. Nearly half of the steak was nothing but gristle and fat. The quality of the steak reminded me of something you would get at Norms or Denny's. Our waiter however was great as he saw that I was not enjoying my selection. He readily replaced it with a filet that was absolutely delicious.

After dinner we wandered aroun d the Pizza and enjoyed some music before calling it a night and returning to the cabin.

That's all for now. I hope all are well.....

Bob

We were on this cruise too and our experiences at the Crown Grill were not great.  We tried it twice and I had the beef chop once and a Kansas City strip the second.  Neither were up to the hype.  My wife had a filet that they could not cook properly and eventually ruined it and the second time she had a boring rib eye. Our server was not as accomodating as yours.  Sabatinis made up for the Crown Grill both in taste and service.

Carmen, Imade and Gloria in the Lounge were the highlights of servive on this cruise for us.

Sorry to hear about your COVID.  We feel OK back at home but will test to be sure.

I’m sorry to hear that both of you caught COVID. I’m sure you were as careful as anyone is about trying to avoid it. I hope it is short-lived and that your symptoms are mild.

Feel bad you both got sick Woobustr112G.  First formal night in Concerto dining room I ordered the prawns, they were grey and slimy, so I did not eat and left.  Weather was good in ports, not on sea days, but so much to do it was fun.  Good shows were Encore and Magician/comedian Nathan Phan.  Yes, lots of coughing and few masks.  I saw someone in atrium

( can’t remember floor) cough on things and cough into hand and then touch all the elevator buttons, kept repeating until elevator came.  Saw people cough into food in buffet.  We felt like a lot of sick people onboard.  We were and still are fine, we were masking most of time in public spaces and elevators and using hand sanitizer.   Get well soon.

Woobustr112G, it was so nice to meet you and Holli at LCR, I didn’t realize it was you, so happy we played it was very fun!  Casino was great to some, several large jackpots won, not me, it was a Casino cruise.  Casino players were all nice and we rooted for each other.  Also noticed extremely rude elevator people, always took the stairs to deck 14 from every floor both up and down, happy I can still do stairs.  DJ Alta is so good and played great music.  We also noticed Luke warm food in buffet and dining room too.

Games in Princess Live were fun.  Cruise Director Armando and staff were awesome!  So sorry to hear you got sick, hope you are feeling better.  How was your flight home?  The gelato was really good.  I think a lot of people were ill and just did not report.  We were awoken by the smell of cigarette smoke coming into our cabin several mornings and would smell it in evening and during days too, Steward smelled it in a cabin forward of the Suite Lounge too coming from a cabin, not sure if our neighbor or nearby stateroom was smoking, never heard, scary.  We were just aft of the suites on 14.  We had a lot of vibration in the bed and room on Royal, more so than when in aft suites on the older ships, never really noticed it  on the older ships. We were midship in Dec on 14 and did not notice vibration.

I wore a mask off the ship and she did not. Holli was not positive until I gave her a home test Sunday night when we got home (AZ). She tested negative on the ship when I tested positive. Should she have worn a mask; probably, but I honestly didn't think about because I was feeling rather lousy when we got off the ship.
