We have a cabin on hold for this one.  Thanks for posting about it, I never would’ve noticed it.  For us it’s a perfect combination of ports with some history (plus the canal), tropical beachy ports and sea days.

Hooray!!!!

Thank you all for taking me along on this wonderful adventure. Because of all the different contributors I got to visit a whole lot of new places, sample many more different meals, and all those adult beverages! Wow! Almost ... not really ... as good as being there.

Thanks again from a long time lurker on both Bella's and Dani's threads.

From reading what some have said, I’m glad we pre-booked our Uber. From leaving our cabin to the airport it took us 30 minutes.  The Genie walk-off might have played a small part, but the Uber driver showing up and on time was an equally important part of it too.

I had a walk off with Vasilije 😁

Great guy

But when we got to luggage hall, our bags were on a trolley, wrapped in cellophane.  Then they start 'discussing' who will open them. So Laura starts doing it, but gets screamed at. We need a Longshoreman to do it. But then he won't take them off the trolley, so Laura and I did. Crazy

Many of the Bella cruisers would meet at the Schooner Bar. One of our gang is Marty @nasa1974.

One night I noticed Marty was at the bar drinking a bottle of Heineken beer. Standing next to his bottle was a Manhattan cocktail. I asked Marty if he drinks Manhattans and he said no. He told me he got the cocktail in memory of his late wife.  Marty shared that Sue would have a Manhattan at least once a cruise to honor Marty’s grandfather who she would share the drink with when they visited. Some nights he would have a glass of wine sitting next to his beer to honor his wife.  Marty did this every night.

IMG_2287.thumb.jpg.c17dac7a4fdfccccaac00c3afbf1cb39.jpg

I asked Marty to tell me about his wife. He went on to tell me that his wife had died of cancer in November of 2021 after a long battle.  I asked Marty about meeting her. He told me that they had met on a ski trip and fell instantly in love. They started cruising and they met Cruise Critic friends and fellow Bella Cruisers Joe and Amelia @Cruisingpeople.  The couples met on a cruise of the Panama Canal and became close friends.  They ended up going on 4 cruises together.

IMG_2279.thumb.jpg.a85116d3e31860c6bdf12917b3dede65.jpg

Marty told me he was going to bury Suzanne’s ashes at sea. He went through all the protocols with Royal and got a biodegradable urn for Sue’s ashes. We had set up a time to meet with the officers and do a ceremony on our last sea day.

IMG_1176.thumb.jpg.64a2d4c69d0916f99d07c02847a6e9cb.jpg

I asked who was going to attend. He said Joe and Amelia of course since they were good friends. I asked if Linda and I could be there for him and he said yes.

On Day 7 at sea we met the Royal officers who took us to a special spot on ship away from people so Marty could have his personal moment. What happened next was a joyful, emotional moment.

I asked him if it was alright to document the burial at sea for him and his family to have for a memory. Marty also gave his blessing to have this video published so people can see what a burial at sea is like to honor their loved ones. The staff of Royal was so caring and nice. In the end we all cried and embraced. We then went to the schooner bar for a toast to Sue and to order another glass of wine for her. I think Marty will always cherish this moment. I know I did.

Cheers to you Suzanne may you rest in peace.

I guess you should consider yourself fortunate he didn’t make you tip him so you could take them off the trolley.

What a wonderful gesture in videoing it for him.  We did a burial at sea with some of my Dad's ashes on Explorer and the Royal people could not have been kinder and handled it with more care than they did.  It created a long lasting memory for my Mom, brother and I.  My brother and I are going to do the same with some of both Mom and Dad's ashes together on Navigator next April.

Saul our fantastic server. They really take care of you. As crowded as it was it never felt crowded and we never had to wait for a cocktail or food. I’m really impressed.

Wow, didn't realize all of this was going on.  Knew of his wife's passing and the drink but not the burial.  What a special memory, thanks for sharing.  Glad to hear he enjoyed the cruise even under the circumstances.

Another moment we missed, we were there but over by the rail watching the party on the promenade.  Thanks for capturing one of the many fun moments from the cruise.

We didn’t meet Marty @nasa1974 until the last night. He was kind enough to share stories and pictures of his lovely Sue.  We had a fun discussion about the Trikes Aruba excursion as it was one we had also done.  May you have nothing but happy memories.

Marty told me he was going to bury Suzanne’s ashes at sea. He went through all the protocols with Royal and got a biodegradable urn for Sue’s ashes. We had set up a time to meet with the officers and do a ceremony on our last sea day.

Wow, thanks for sharing the story and the video. Don't know what else to say.

This brought me to tears. Greg and Linda, you both have kind hearts for joining Amelia and Joe to honor Sue's memory to support Marty. I know he'll treasure this always.
