Room service charge

Sailing again on Summit in a few weeks and personally, the charge for room service doesn't bother me. In general, people are wasteful. I dont know how many times I've seen trays of uneaten food outside cabins. It's awful. If $9 makes people pause and think a little more before they go hog wild, I think it's a good thing!

Sure but they found a way to make it work for decades without a nearly $12 fee

And for years a pitcher of draft beer at the 19th hole at our course was $5  Those days are gone.

Have you been paying attention to the short staffing problems since Covid?

also, you might not be aware that RS has often been misused just because it was free…@ same cabin several times daily, children ordering one item, adults ordering Willy Nilly especially after drinking.

Valid and they can go on here or other sites to learn about the fee.  However, how many passengers would research or check the app pre-sailing?  Clearly not 100% so there will be some who know about the fee until they're on board.  Our first time in AQ, we didn't look at the menu in the app nor did we research the RS menu.  For us, the expanded RS menu was the least valued AQ benefit even when it didn't have a fee

Okay nag, you win on this one, yet for those who sail in lower categories i.e. veranda's and the like, for the first time or more quite a few would not know about the fee before boarding and upon opening the menu...

Yet that does not mean there is not value to those who choose to order from the menu anytime of the day or evening... OR go to the OVC if it is an issue.

Just my thoughts...

bon appetit and bon voyage

And who knows, they could expand the menu...A lot of people don't know, someone else told us, you can call RS and order off the MDR for dinner which I would imagine is much more appealing than the RS menu

Continues on the downward trend of cruise lines chipping away at anything that adds value to the passenger; its the same in many other industries but the cruise lines biggest competitor, hotels, have overall remained the same

Staffing issues are nothing like they were a year ago plus they have all those extra staff now that they cut the dinner buffet.  We have to remember, every room service order that replaces dinner actually saves labor due to not needing a M'D, asst M'D, bread deliverer, water refiller, sommelier, waiter, asst waiter, buser, etc

Like the lobster tail fee, charge a fee when the stateroom order more than once a day

Then maybe cruising is no longer a good option for you.  There are plenty of nice hotels and resorts to choose from, of course many don’t have live music in multiple venues  or shows, casinos, 2x daily room servicing or included meals.

Will take more than a RS fee to keep us away from sailing...lol.  We do a Mexican AI once a year in Playa Del Carmen which is only 15mins from downtown where you have some great restaurants and entertainment.  The resort does offer food (its bad, though) drinks, live music, shows and they're often right on a beach with free loungers.  We also book regular land hotels for short weekend trips.  All three have their pros and cons yet if you're comparing a Mexican AI to a sailing, the AI would be a far less expensive experience

Are pancakes available, albeit with the fee? Loved the blueberry pancakes in the past.

Yes, pancakes are available to order and you will be charged the room service fee.

Where is your October 2024 cruise sailing from?  Some sailings include the gratuity in the fee so it would be listed a $12, not $9.95 + 18% gratuity.

Why would a suite have a service fee for room service?

To clarify, once they’re on board they open the RS menu and this could the first time they see the fee

At this point in time, the only room service fee in a suite is $4.95 for a very late night/very early morning delivery (I can't remember the exact hours).

Until the $9.95 + gratuity was introduced for rooms other than suites, the above applied to all rooms throughout the ship.

Is this true of all Celebrity ships in all cabin categories? First time sailing Celebrity in early July and just trying to figure out what is and isn't possible.

Yes but note that there is a $9.95 x 18% fee per delivery so be sure to load up.  Also, if you're not in the room when they arrive with the food they'll leave it in your room

Thank you so much! Yes, I've learned that outside of continental breakfast, there is the charge+18%.

Suites do not have a service fee for room service.  At first I took the posters RS reference to mean Royal Suite, then I realized it probably meant room service.

We did this once last year on Silhouette. However I understand from previous posts that there is no longer an option to order from MDR menu through room service. If true it’s a shame. Our favourite Sailaway was on our balcony with MDR food and would have liked to do it again.

This is true.  When they introduced the $9.95 room service fee in January they removed the option to order from the MDR menu during dining room times.

I noticed on the app that room service does not list a fee except for late night delivery. We have an upcoming sailing and are not in a suite. Are they suspending the fee on some sailings, or is the description inaccurate because I’m not onboard yet?

The app is showing the old policy that was in effect prior to the change earlier this year.

One thing is for sure we saw very few trays outside of rooms in our cruise last week, especially in comparison to previous cruises.  Since we have rarely ordered room service, the fee doesn’t bother me.
