Good morning, everyone!

The air quality here in mid-Michigan is marginally better than it was yesterday.  I think we can manage short times out of doors if we can stand the heat.  This morning we may go to story hour at the gardens and this afternoon to the splash park.  Sue has another migraine and is still in bed this morning.  The air quality and weather have been hard on her this week.

Happy Birthday to @smitty34877's DH, Lou, and to @bennybear's DH.

Happy Retirement to @kochleffel Paul.

Today's meal sounds really nice.  The actual meal according to the description is from Bon Appetit/Epicurius.  Those require subscriptions, but I stayed away long enough that I have a free recipe available.  Halibut is hard to find in places and when you do, it is expensive.  @ottahand7 I would be tempted to try it with whitefish.   https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/grilled-halibut-nicoise-with-market-vegetables

This one is a grilled halibut with roasted vegetables.  Again, you can use any fish you like in this recipe.  https://www.heinens.com/recipes/grilled-halibut-with-roasted-vegetables/

This one cooks the halibut and then flakes it into the salad.  You wouldn't have to do that and could just use it as a sheet pan recipe.  https://lukeslobster.com/blogs/recipes/one-sheet-roasted-nicoise-salad-with-halibut

Good morning from a sunny central Texas where it is75F and feels like 75F.  The good news is our high will be 98F.  Not much on the agenda except my walk.

Meteor Day will be celebrated, but probably the best viewing will be in August during the Perseid meteor shower.  The National Organization for Women has done a lot to help with equality, but sadly more work is still needed.  We stopped shaking hands on ships before Covid because of all the other bugs and viruses going around.  I am surprised at how many health care professionals, especially doctors and nurse practitioners, shake hands now.

All I can say is today's quote by Oscar Wilde is interesting.

DH likes halibut, but we'll pass on the meal.  The drink sounds interesting.  I'd like to try the wine, but it's another expensive, elusive one from NZ.

In 2013 we did two 14 day b2bs on Veendam with four stops in PEI.  I'll look for my pictures of that lovely island.

The famous debate in 1860 must have been very interesting.

Happy Friday and Canada Day Eve.  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann.  Happy Birthday Lou (as happy as it can be while in hospital),  It sure took a long time for Evolution to be accepted.  Not sure about Meteors but I'll celebrate the other 2 days.  Interesting quote by Wilde.  I've been to Charlottetown about 1995 on a land trip and with Blount Small Ship Adventures in 2019 but I don't think ever on a BHB.  I'll pass on the meal today.  My alternative is Fruit Ceviche and Grilled Molasses Lamb Chops which I would have enjoyed on MS Prinsendam June 7, 2015 if I had been in the dining room rather than the Pinnacle Grill.

Still code Red due to smoke so I;ll soon be off to the mall to walk inside.

Roy

Unfortunately, Roy, not everyone accepts evolution even today.  I hope your air quality improves soon.

Thanks for our TGIF Daily, Rich.

No meteors to watch today but I’ll happily celebrate the National Organization for Women Day.  We owe so much to them.  Hand shakes seem rarer these days especially on ships since covid.

I”m scratching my head on the Wilde quote.  I must need more coffee 😉. Looking forward to hearing about the meal & loved our visits to PEI.  Haven’t visited on a BHB (can get there in a very few hours from here) but we have used a ferry to get there (back in the old days).  Frankly, I liked it better than the Confederation Bridge.

More rain again today.  I hope it is not downpours.  My peonies have finally begun to come out and the downpours are going to kill all the petals.  I’m not in the mood to clean up petals if I can’t enjoy the blooms 😔

There are a lot of them here - it’s one plant the deer don’t eat so they are in the unfenced area as well as the fenced.  DD DH loved them so they are everywhere.

Less than 100 days before we sail so I had better soon get the name tag & invite factory cranked up.  We have over 125 for our Meet & Greet.  and, I best get some supplies for Ivan & I before Canada Day (ugh).

@smitty34877 happy birthday to Lou.  At least as good of a birthday as possible in the hospital. 😞

So many on our Care list in need of prayers.  Mine are winging their way to all of you especially @luvteaching whose footsteps I have walked in 💔 & to those that need them.

Cheers to those celebrating 🥂.

Rich, thank you for today’s R & D! A bit of a marine layer this morning, and that may be why it feels a bit cooler this morning. Yesterday was so hot that my 90+ degree pool water actually felt cool!

Vanessa, thank you for keeping track of all of us. @smitty34877, Terry, praying that Lou’s transfusion takes care of the issue, and that this is the only detour on his road to recovery.  And please wish him Happy Birthday from me. Tell him he gets a birthday wish!

@bennybear Brenda, please tell DH that he gets a birthday wish, too!

@luvteaching, Karen  hope you are able to find peace and rest.

Gym, yard work, Bindi walks and cleaning & salad prep for the dinner with friends I am hosting.

Lenda & Joy, this is dedicated to you…

Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir Martinborough Home Block 2020

Well I found several distributors who ship this New Zealand wine worldwide. The cheapest individual bottle price I found was $44.04 + shipping from a Singapore distributor notes.

Distributor notes

From 'some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in New Zealand', the classy 2020 vintage (5*) was matured for a year in French oak casks (22 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is a mouthfilling, rich red, savoury and complex, with concentrated cherry, plum and spice flavours, very finely integrated oak and ripe, supple tannins. Still youthful, with obvious cellaring, it's well worth cellaring to 2024+.

Ann, how did you know it felt like a blast furnace when we open the front door?  My little toe lives up to the second meme, and also checks to see that door frames have not moved.  🤣

Good morning, everyone. Thank you for the Daily and Fleet reports.

It has been a hectic week. Having neighbor issues that have resulted in us buying a security system and hiring a surveyor to reset our property markers. Very frustrating indeed.

Air quality here is a little better but I have been affected with burning eyes and coughing. Preparing for a long holiday weekend which is what can use right now.

Thinking of all on the care list and celebrating those who are celebrating something.

Have a safe and healthy day.

I believe the Alaska itineraries for 2025 will be out the end of next week so I am patiently waiting to book my next cruise.

Denise, I'm sorry about the neighbor issues and the need for a security system and a new survey.

@bennybear, Happy Birthday  to your DH!

Thank you for the birthday wishes for my DH.We are headed back to the hospital shortly to see him.The blood work this morning is improved from yesterday so we are hoping one transfusion will suffice. He told me last night  that he is very happy to be able to celebrate this milestone even in the hospital.

We have been to PEI twice and rented a car both times. It is a beautiful  place  and I even did an ocean plunge as the water was fairly warm at 70 degrees. And the Cow ice cream was great.

The AQI here is 160.It is overcast and looks quite gloomy outside.

Tana's aide will have the weekend off as usual and we are searching for extra help.DSIL 's lovely sister has offered to help but she is worried  about managing  any equipment  or medical  problems. We are hoping to hear from one of Tana's  nursing  friends today.Fingers

crossed.

@kochleffel, Paul, Happy Retirement Day!I hope the kitties emerge soon from their hiding places.

All the best to all of you!

Terry, I'm glad the transfusion has helped and the blood work is better.  I hope it's a one and done, and that Lou has an uneventful recovery from now on.  Please wish Lou a very HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY for us.  I hope you can get some help with Tana over the weekend, and that you can get some rest.

Good morning! Not sure if we fell asleep or just lost consciousness after our return home. Managed to sleep until 4:30 so it will take a couple of days to adjust. Bags are getting unpacked, mail has been sorted and some laundry started all without coffee as I prefer cream in my coffee and we have none. Store run is on got to do list.

We prefer fist bumps versus handshakes especially at the beginning of travel. Azamara advertises and all crew practice fist bumps. First time in awhile I haven’t got a sniffle on a cruise.

Lot’s of things we have to get done and one priority is to renew our passports as our present one’s will expire 5 months after our return from World Cruise. Planning for the World Voyage is really picking up now that final payment is due next week. We are paid in full minus 1 cent we have been told!

Good to be back for awhile. Visit to one son and family in August and other son has rented a beach front house at Depot Bay in Oregon in Sept. for two weeks and we are invited.

Thanks for the reports and have a great weekend. @kazu pretty garden as usual.

Bruce

Welcome home, and I'm happy you didn't get a sniffle on the cruise, just some very happy memories.

In 2013. HAL offered the Canada-New England cruise as a 14-day roundtrip out of Boston.  Since we prefer longer cruises, we did the 14-day as b2bs, so we were in Charlootetown four times in August and September.

On August 28. we walked around town and took the tourist trolley.   I'll post those pictures here, then look at the ones from the other three visits when we rented cars and toured PEI.  It was a very cloudy day,, but at least it didn't rain.

The Veendam and the smaller boats.  This was our first, but not last time on the Veendam.

On September 13, 2013, we visited the Anne of Green Gables House, the birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery, and the Confederation Bridge.  We enjoyed Lucy Maud's birthplace more than a house based on a fictional character.  It was a rainy day, but with a car, we had no problems.

In 2013, our last visit to PEI was on September 17.  We had a beautiful, sunny day to drive around the island.

I'm not sure where these were taken, but it was on the north shore of the island, and probably near the northern most point.  They were putting in wind generators near a lighthouse.

We timed our visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum so we were there between buses from the ship.  We left when we saw a bus approaching.  It is a museum of a period house, and a working farm owned by relatives of Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here!

Sailing on the Veendam was the first HAL cruise ship that Sue and I sailed on with Charlottetown being our first port of call. A NCL ship was there also but we were assigned to the pier. I was still recovering from breaking my right ankle so was rather limited in the distance I could manage to walk. We did a HAL bus excursion that took us to two lighthouses and a local winery.

My very first port stop on my very first cruise was PEI. This was October 2022. This little village made me yearn for living in a small coastal town.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We enjoy heading out into the countryside to watch the Perseid meteorite showers in August, but don't want to rush summer away!  Handshakes are making their way back, but we're still cautious, even with several jabs and pokes.  Yay for National Organization for Women, giving us a voice.

It looks like a typical summer day starting out with clear skies, just a hint of a breeze and an expected high of +34 (93f), so that means the windows will stay open for about another hour or so, then we'll close everything up and likely turn on the A/C around mid afternoon.  I'm sorry so many of you are experiencing HOT as Hades weather, and poor quality air - I hope that changes soon for you.

@smitty34877please wish your DH Lou a very Happy Birthday and hope he can enjoy a treat, even though he's in the hospital.

@bennybear wishing your DH Happy Birthday as he celebrates another trip around the sun.

@kochleffelHappy Retirement Day to you - a couple of days ago I celebrated the 9th anniversary of closing my office door for the last time and I don't regret a minute of that decision.  Wishing you a long, happy, healthy retirement.

@kazu beautiful photos of your flowers, as usual.  I didn't know that deer won't touch peonies!

@Denise T that sounds scary, having to get security cameras and having your property line re-surveyed!

Had to call the door guy to report there are 2 small dents in our new door that I didn't see initially.  When I look at the photo taken just minutes after they left, you can definitely see one in the middle between the two panels and another just off to the lower left.

Door.JPG.575b9c4168cbf32f657a3deb3e615e66.JPG

Off to get my nail fill, then DH and I are going to start working on cleaning the windows on the deck, a few at a time (there are 16 large panes).  It's a thankless job, as most cleaning tasks are, but a necessary one if we want to see out when the sun is shining on the glass.  After that I think it'll be time to peruse the online menus because it's Friday night pizza night and I'm sure we'll be enjoying it in the pergola instead of the deck.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Good sunny and smoky morning. AQI is currently 156, with an alert until midnight. Hopefully it will improve soon.

I’ve been to PEI on the Maasdam . I did an island tour that included Anne and stopped at the bridge. I guess I should wear my Cow’s T shirt today or find my visor with the red dirt in it.

@Crazy For CatsI hope Jasper’s trip to the vet is uneventful. It sounds like possibly a thyroid problem. The meds he might need are easy to give.🤞🐾

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

Good news, our aqi is 29 at 9 am, so things have gotten much better. We were well over 200 yesterday afternoon.

and I need to make a correction to holiday closures I posted. Stellantis (Chrysler) has the plants in Canada shut down today. Some offices are also closed today, my neighbours are both home. Costco, the newspaper are off tomorrow. The shopping mall as noted has holiday hours on Saturday as does our outlet mall. So a real mix on who is open when. The stock markets in Canada will close on Monday for the holiday as the USA stock markets are closed Tuesday and Canada tries to align with the u.s. schedule. Ok done!

prayers for all that need them. A shout out to the birthday people and those celebrating. Will lift a glass to you later. @kochleffelhappy retirement!

Good Morning to All!

Thank you for the information.  Love meteors.  I was working in Rock Springs, WY and would drive back home to South Dakota at night (after working 6 days in a row), the Perseid meteor shower was going on.  In the dark, dark drive on the very lonely road - it was beautiful!!  I used to give handshakes but made a mistake once in Saudi and outstretched my hand to a male.  Oops!! Very cautious after that!!  Women should have a day EVERY day!!

Happy retirement to @kochleffel.  And Happy Birthday to all those celebrating that milestone today.

Thoughts to all on the care list (so many 😞 )

I went to PEI on my last cruise.  Walked around Charlottetown and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Today is a rest day for me.  Having been catching up on stuff since returning home.  Gone almost 4 weeks so some things to take care of!!

Have a great day everyone.

@smitty34877 A most happy birthday to Lou on his 75th🎈🎉🎂!  Hoping his treatment helps everybody!

Happy birthday 🎂 to @bennybears DH!

Happy retirement to Paul @kochleffel 🥂🌈🎈🎆

@luvteaching Terry, prayers for comfort and strength for you and your family. (((Warm Hugs))).

@JazzyV Prayers for Ruth and all those who love her. She’s had a tough journey. I lost my BFF at 59. She and I were the same age. I still talk to her!

I’ve enjoyed the Pinnacle Grill halibut but it’s too big!

@ger_77 Oh no on the door dents. Not sure how to fix that…. I hope they can do something.

@kazu Beautiful flowers!

Everybody get well, heal up, and enjoy a safe holiday celebration weekend. Granddaughter and her DH are on their way. Busy weekend of projects here. At least the air is improving!
m—

PS. To @aliaschief, @grapau27, @Cruzin Terri… others who cruise lines others than HAL…. Is there classical music?  We’ve enjoyed some firm of classical music on NCL, Princess and Celebrity but not in years. Even Carnival had a string quartet when we began cruising in 2003, one of the reasons we kept cruising, but not anymore. Thanks for the updates!

@kazu, Jacqui in Coeur d'alene our deer would bite off the buds and flowers and spit them out. Same for the tulips.

@ger_77 we had a dent in our garage door and the guy used a plunger like device and it came right out. Hoping they can fix your door the same way.

Thank you to everyone who shared pictures today. We were cruising from Quebec to Boston and loved PEI.

Debbie I love halibut in any way it is prepared. It is not available very often unless frozen, and when fresh it is pricey.

No on the drink of the day. I do not care for pineapple and thinking about it in a drink or on pizza?

Have a wonderful day. Be kind.

Jasper yelled all the way to the doctor.  He lost a half pound since his last check.  The doctor suspect’s thyroid issue but will wait for the test results before deciding on a plan of action.

I see this most early in the summer, when fawns are trying everything, including species that their mothers know don't taste good.

Good morning to all,

I'm doing well and life goes on. Yesterday a friend was camping near the water in LaConner, WA so went and saw her, sat at a picnic table with an ice cream bar and enjoyed the water and the view. It was good for the soul. In the afternoon DS Jeff was here and we (mostly him - I was the straw boss) loaded tons of things off the back porch into the dumpster that was here for roofing. Who knew the back porch was so spacious? The dumpster is being picked up today.

The death notice is in today's paper and I'll get the obituary to the funeral home over the next few days. I have it revamped but want Phil's sister to read it first and she hasn't gotten back to me. DS Jeff just says "looks good Mom.". I'll have a short version in the newspaper with a link to the funeral home website where I can put as much as I want.

Today is banking, a stop at the Hallmark store and the grocery store then friends coming for a visit at 1:00 which I'm looking forward to. I'm a bit teary at times but overall doing ok.

Happy Friday and enjoy the day!

Karen

Good morning,

Happy Birthday to the hubby’s and Happy Retirement to @kochleffel
Baby Murphy is doing good and the cardiac team advised them to do normal baby things with her while in the hospital until the surgery next Thursday. Her oxygen needs are minimal and she is able to feed a little.
Prayers to those in need and have a great day.

they don’t like the smell, apparently.  They’ve never been touched in 35+ years at either of my homes in this deer ridden place.  Anyone with gardens has peonies in the unprotected parts around here.  All safe.

Hoping that is all it is, Jake.  One of my cats had a thyroid issue and it was easy for me to treat at the time.  Hoping for an easy solution for you and Jasper 🤞

Amazing.  Peonies have never been touched here - not even by the fawns. Perhaps a different species of deer?  Now tulips are a different story.  They are dessert to deer as are hostas.  The first year I moved to this house I planted 100 tulips.  I saw the neighbours staring at me and went over to see what was up.  They were delighted someone was doing some work to the landscape here (there was nothing — no gardens - nada) and asked me what I was planting.  When I told them tulips they all broke out laughing and told me about the deer problem.  I had no idea.  Suffice it to say, not one of the 100 got to bloom the next spring LOL.

Having neighbor issues that have resulted in us buying a security system and hiring a surveyor to reset our property markers. Very frustrating indeed.

Yikes Denise!  That doesn’t speak well of your neighbours.  We had one bad one (renters) a number of years ago that forced us to re-survey one side of the property as the absentee owners didn’t care so what was once shared cost (like tree trimming) was now all ours and I wasn’t touching one of theirs nor mowing part of their lawn.  Fortunately, the house was sold and our problem disappeared with the sale. 😉

I hope things get straightened out for you.  Getting along with neighbours makes life so much easier and enjoyable.  I’m very lucky in my neighbourhood.

@luvteaching I’m glad you had a nice day in beautiful La Conner.  Love that place
  •
  • @kazu beautiful peonies and hydrangea.  I agree with Jose
  •
  • @Denise Ti am so sorry to hear your news.   We have been fortunate most of our lives until recently.  It is so difficult to deal with this  in your home.   We also Had to get a new  survey and security after many issues.  One of which was the removal of a peony and daffodils from our property. I am hoping you can peacefully resolve it.
