fla gang Posted July 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Ok, so sell me on Celebrity! I've done I think 26 cruises on Royal and I play in the casino quite a bit. Celebrity called and offered me a balcony on any cruise up to 9 days, but I would like to do something in January or February of 2024. We thought about just a short cruise including Key West but not a big fan of the smaller Royal ships, so what will we think about the Summit? WestLakeGirl Posted July 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2023 I don’t see how anyone can possibly answer that for you without some more information. What is it you don’t like about the smaller Royal ships?
1Virgo Posted July 14, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Love the Summit. We were on her April/May and before her refurbishment If I m not mistaken the Summit, has been voted favorite ship. I know for us it is. The Blu Dining Room for Aqua is great. Service excellent. We would not hesitate in recommending it

ymncruise Posted July 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Summit is similar to the smaller Royal ships, but I think it’s nicer. No smoking in the casino.

Yes, comped cruise with a balcony up to 9 days on any ship except the Ascent. This was based on my casino play on Royal on my last cruise. I wanted to book Hawaii for next July but I can only book 6 months out.
ChucktownSteve Posted July 14, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) I'm sorry but you don't need to be sold on Celebrity. IT'S A COMP'D CRUISE!! Take it or leave it. Sounds like more bragging than really wanting to know about Celebrity. But Summit is an old, worn ship which has a strong following. You won't like it though as a high roller. My question to you is how are you only RCL Diamond with 26 cruises? Edited July 14, 2023 by ChucktownSteve 2
tserface Posted July 14, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2023 I think you will like Celebrity for the casino. If it were my first time I'd go on one of the S or E (Solstice or Edge) class ships rather than one of the older ones. You'd get a better impression and experience. The biggest difference is that Celebrity doesn't focus as much on entertaining families. There pools, but they are not as lavish as on some Royal ships. Also, there are no rock climbing walls, Flow Riders, North Stars, or other gimmicky cruise ship stuff. It's a lot quieter environment with fewer kids and slightly elevate (although not as much these days). It's also an older crowd. We like both Celebrity and Royal and go on each depending on the itinerary we want and whether or not we're bringing grandkids along. If you are Diamond on Royal you'll be Elite on Celebrity. You'd just have to call the Captain's Club and sign up and tell them your Royal status. That gets you some more perks. Life is about trying new things. Since you got a really great offer for this cruise, you don't have a lot to lose by giving it a try.

BettyCruiser Posted July 15, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 15, 2023 Summit (M class) is built on the same hull as Radiance class but less glass. If you don't like Radiance class you probably won't like Summit.

happy cruzer Posted July 15, 2023 #13 Share Posted July 15, 2023 The casino is no smoking as well as the interior of the ship. There will not be as many options for entertainment but if you are in the casino most nights you will be happy on the smaller ship with a little better food and service. Rare chemmo Posted July 15, 2023 #15 Share Posted July 15, 2023 The focus on RC is action and adventure whereas on Celebrity it is more on rest and relaxation. If you don’t like the smaller RC ships which have less entertainment venues you may also find the Celebrity M class limited. In our opinion all Celebrity ships ‘win’ on food, relaxing bars, a quieter atmosphere and excellent service. Also generally less children on board and those that are on board are well supervised and well behaved. Also in our opinion RC ‘win’ on entertainment and activities. With a free cruise up for grabs why not just give Celebrity a go? If you board expecting a new experience you may find you really enjoy the differences. if you board and compare negatively with the RC big ships then you will be disappointed.

This was the kind of response I was looking for. different brands offer quite a few differences and I thought why not give them a try. We are taking the kids and grandkids on a Disney cruise next year, but I like to have a casino for my entertainment, which Disney does not have. I would like to experience the step above food and service that I here Celebrity offers!

SlightDraw Posted July 15, 2023 #18 Share Posted July 15, 2023 We are kind of like you. Many RCI cruises, actually one cruise from diamond plus. We switched to Celebrity, we probably won’t sail Royal Again. Take a Celebrity cruise, you will see and feel the difference.

If you don't like smaller RCCL ships it is unlikely you will be a big Summit fan. I HIGHLY recommend Apex, Edge or Beyond on Celebrity. We feel Celebrity is a small kick up from other lines, particularly in service & food... Eclass (these 3 ships plus Ascent) are kick up within Celebrity! They are FABULOUS ships. I LOVED Allure & Anthem...then I sailed the Edge...O.M.G. Spoiled me. Entertainment on Eclass rivals RCCL. Now, we sailed Equinox again last Nov & thoroughly enjoyed it as well. But all I really want to sail is Eclass...sigh... (PLUS you will truly get the most value sailing Eclass as they are often a bit pricier) Edited July 15, 2023 by KKB
