Good Saturday Morning Dailyites!

To those of you cruising today!  Enjoy and Bon Voyage!

It's an F1 weekend, and I'm working today, so will have to watch the Sprint race later today.  The F1 channel is on now, I should be making breakfast, and start crock potting lunch, eh, I will start in a few minutes.

A week from today, I will be waking up in Rome.

I'm excited!

Very grateful for Donna to house sit, turns out my pay check was 300 less that it was two weeks ago.

We need to stock up on cat food, paper plates, trash bags, cat crunchies, cat cookies, etc.  That is one errand we have to do this weekend.  We are meeting Jesse and Penny for dinner tonight, and tomorrow we are heading up to meet up with a friend I made on the Holland Cruise.  They  live north of us, so sort of meeting up halfway.  Working for California on Monday, working for Texas on Tuesday, and then, DONE.

I laughed at today's quote.  Reminds me of the newest philosophy of living.

"Just keep swimming".

@StLouisCruisersLoved your Isle of Skye pictures.  I think Jackie Lawson has used your photo of the Church on the corner,  with the curve in the road on one of her Christmas cards.

Well off to be the chef!

Every day is a good day for a smile - whether we feel like it or not; DH is headed for bald (my father kept a full head of hair, so this will be new); I support walking to school, but don't see many children doing it

I don’t want to consider a world where we continue to always fail w/o success sprinkled in, so I reject the quote. Is that allowed?

Would have the meal, pass on the drink now that I know what it is, would try the wine, not been to the port.

Has it really been over 40 years since 'Cats' debuted?!

57° headed to 72°, back to 90 on Mon. I will take the brief dip in temps - maybe pick up a few gourds to celebrate. Then nap.

Top of the very short list today is picking up a bottle of Baileys for DH, followed by a nap, a load of laundry and a nap. Hope there's time for a nap.

Tomorrow I need to focus on the suitcases for our cruise. And nap.

Prayers and positive thoughts for all.

Thank you for today’s FR & D, Rich! A cool, cloudy morning. Possible showers, but just mostly cloudy is the forecast.

Vanessa, thank you for capturing our happenings.  I hope you find a solution to your pain.

Zumba, gardening, Bindi walks and a trip to the beach for supper & some wine. Sounds like a great day to me.

Domìni Veneti Appassimento

I enjoy learning new things about wine - such as “appassimento” being the technique of drying grapes on mats after harvesting. I used the 2021 vintage info since that should be easy to find. I would definitely enjoy tasting this reasonably priced dry red. Online prices start at $11.99.

Distributor notes

Domini Veneti is the prestige series from Cantina di Negrar, which has refined and since then mastered the appassimento technique over several centuries.
Cantina di Negrar, which in 2011 was honored under VinItaly as the best Veneto producer, produces both amarone, valpolicella and other well-known Veneto wines – all with an excellent ratio between price and quality as a common denominator.

The grape varieties for Domini Veneti Appassimento are the classics for the area, namely corvina, rondinella and corvinone but also a small amount of cabernet sauvignon. They are grown as classic double pergolas with an average age of over 25 years.

After the harvest at the end of September, the bunches of grapes were dried for two months before fermentation – a process that can be felt in the finished wine in the form of more concentration and enough sugar in the grapes for the finished wine to have a residual sugar content of approx. 8 grams/liter; enough to round off the wine but still with the fruit in focus and far below the markedly sweeter style of the southern Italian and overseas copies.
The wine is aged in large oak barrels of varying sizes for approx. 10 months before assembly.

The color is deep red and the aroma is characterized by cherries, a touch of dark berries, fresh almonds, and a little dried flowers, while the taste is harmoniously full with a nice appassimento character that does not end with definite sweetness, but simply adds some density to the lovely cherry fruit.

Enjoy this lovable wine with a wide range of roasts, not too violent braises and ‘hard’ cheeses such as the local monte veronese or one of the aged pecorino types.

Serve the wine below room temperature at 16-18° in a spacious ‘Bordeaux glass’ so that you can also enjoy the aroma of the wine.

The wine can be drunk now, but it can also be aged for a handful of years.

Don’t y’all know how to say peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Could you please pass the grey poupon!

Good morning from a rainy Maryland. I’ll be leaving for retreat soon, wonderful respite! I didn’t promise but I did say I’d try to come back next year, take tge train down!  The thought helps me take leave of these warm friends who helped me heal from the very difficult move from NM, feeling like parts of me were turn out as I left my community and work  there!  I did heal, and now feel internally ready for this next move, externally there’s a ton of stuff to figure out but it’ll happen. DH’s eye pressures are creeping up but not too bad. We’ll start working on a finding a new glaucoma specialist in NJ before the move. And start on appts fir me for screenings I won’t get here, mammo and colonoscopy. Onward!

Im not “getting” the quote.  We visited Isle of Skye on a land tour. It was stormy, pouring rain. The bus had to take the long drive around to the bridge because the ferry was stopped due to the weather. We visited the Clan MacDonald museum and in a short break in the rain we walked the gardens. Like everywhere, lots of history. I think it was King Charles I who escaped to there incognito in woman’s clothing.  Graham can clean up my memory.

Blessings already sent!
Bon Voyage to Jacqui, Tina and @St Pete Cruiser (so glad he’s recovered from his nightmare of his last cruise with tge deadly spider bite!). Life is Good!

Not gettin the quote?  Very simple, as you continue to fail, continue to consume good spirits and you will not feel a thing! 😳

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie.

I'll celebrate smiles, am not bald but I can see my hair thinning a bit, and while I never walked to school I sometimes rode my bicycle.

Interesting quote.

I have not been to Isle of Skye.  2 great days in our history.

Lasagna sounds nice.  My alternative is Vegetable Soup, Braised Beef Short Rib, and Strawberry ice cream as served last night on Crystal Serenity.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!   We don't have a lot of bald men in our family, but I'd rather see bald than someone trying to cover it up with 3 hairs and a lot of hope.  As kids we always walked to school, even during blizzards; that's just how it was.  Every day should be smile day - you might just brighten someone's outlook with your smile.

The wind has stopped, the sun is coming up and I see we've got clear blue skies again.  It's shaping up to be a beautiful fall day here on the "frozen tundra", which is great because I have a wedding to officiate outdoors this afternoon.  It's for the my cousin's daughter, so that means we'll be able to enjoy the festivities after the ceremony and reconnect with some relatives as well.

Bon Voyage to @kazu, @0106, @St Pete Cruiser, and our other friends who are also embarking the Rotterdam today.

I'm saying extra prayers today for the people in Israel who were affected by the overnight invasion.  I've read a couple of things on FB from passengers who had their excursions cut short and were not sure where they were going to be headed once the Nieuw Statendam left port.

Yesterday I made the vegetable casserole, today I'll be baking a batch of buns and hopefully will also have time to make the crustless pumpkin pie before having to get ready for the wedding.  Time will tell just what I'm able to get done.

I'd like to try the drink of the day just to see if I like it or not, am pretty sure I'd like the wine, and do enjoy lasagna once in a while, even if it isn't the regular type.  For us however, we'll be enjoying whatever fare is served us at the wedding reception tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Good rainy morning. It’s supposed to stop later this afternoon and then be chilly tomorrow .

I always walked to school. My first school was a block away and now it’s a parking lot where we rent a space at.
Bon Voyage to all sailing today.

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

Greetings from the Rotterdam Crow's Nest in Amsterdam.

It is rather overcast and 18C/65F for our long awaited sailaway. The ship is full and has been according to several guests who have been on the previous cruise. They warned us that there was a big crew changeover today including a new cruise and travel director.

We had a rather difficult time getting to the pier this morning as train service from our enjoyable hotel was interrupted forcing us to use a bus and then return to a train 20231007_163329.thumb.jpg.ee8189f51d1f0f480ede16574995cde5.jpg to Amsterdam Centraal. We pulled our bags to the pier and were still able to be onboard at noon.

There are river cruise boats from Viking,  Uniworld and a few others near us. The Port is alive with ferries, cargo ships and pleasure boats.

I hope to watch until we reach the North Sea. Dinner is not until 8pm. Port talk at 7 and 9 in World Stage.

Good morning all!

My dear Dad passed down the bald gene to our son and nephew, I walked to school up through high school, and every day should be smile day.  I would try the drink, pass on the red wine, and like lasagna.  But tonight will be halibut, salad and french fries.  We were in Portree and took an excursion to Eilean Donan Castle.  Photos below.

I'm concerned about our cruisers on the NS right now in Israel -- a friend of ours (and of some others on this thread) is onboard as is a person on 2 of my roll calls.  It sounds pretty tense. 😞

Today is supposed to be gloriously sunny and warm, I hope to be outside for most of it.  Garden clean up.

Welcome to the Daily Karen @quilty964!

Bon Voyage to @kazu, @0106 and @St Pete Cruiser!

Our day out of Portree, Scotland

I notice the Nieuw Statendam and Oceania Nautica appear to be either moving or their engines started.  You can tell because they appear as circles when docked and arrow shaped when moving.  They were both in Haifa today.

I hope so.  Just 3 minutes ago my friend told me they were still sitting there waiting for 2 passengers.

Which is one reason for doing a ship's tour.... particularly in an unstable area. I hope the 2 passengers are ok.

You could be right about them still sitting there, because even though it appears to be a moving ship, the information given when you click on the ship is odd.  It says moving at 102 knots.  That's on cruisemapper.com.  I do hope they can get out of there quickly!

Daily-ites -

I'm just stopping in to leave a quick update. I openly admit I have not read any full days of Daily posts since DH's hospital stay began twelve days ago.

DH has had a tough go of it. This past Monday, as everything was circling down the proverbial rabbit hole,  I asked, "Are we losing him?" DH's team replied that it was not unreasonable to prepare myself for that possibility.

Five days later, with that same medical team's work and so many fervently praying, there is wonderful news. DH has rallied enough that planning for a transfer to Inpatient Rehabilitation has started.

When DH does transfer, his medical treatment will continue with intensive occupational and physical therapy added. This possible transfer has involved some creative thinking on the part of his team to make it work.

But, the result I've been lobbying for and praying about may materialize.

Fingers crossed; prayers continued,
-Melisa

Good morning,

It's a beautiful day in the PNW and will be in the high 70's today and mid-70's tomorrow before we get rain on Monday. This is "Farm Tour Weekend" in the Skagit Valley with several farms open to the public with goods to sample, buy and educational displays. I'll head up towards Concrete tomorrow to visit two farms that were DH's favorites. Staying home today as new dryer is due to be delivered between 4 and 6 but could be earlier.

Had a nice day visiting with Mom on Thursday. I left home at 9 AM and got back at 8:30 PM. She wanted to go shopping for black pants so we went to a mall that's a bit further from her place. She cashed in her lottery tickets and then clothes shopped. She got two tops and grey sweatpants and was happy. Then it was to the local bakery for some scones. I brought home a cinnamon one and a triple chocolate one. I left her at 3:45 to go to a friends house less than 30 minutes away and got there almost 2 hours later. The reason - an accident on the only bridge to get there. What a time just sitting and creeping along. At least the trip back down from BC was fine and my border waits were nonexistent.

My Dad was bald and claimed he started going bald the day I was born! I walked to school pretty much all my school career until 11th grade when I started driving. You had to live several miles away to qualify for bus service and we weren't in that circle.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Melisa, we are all thrilled to read your news.  We could certainly use some good news here right about now!  Thank you so much for keeping us updated.  I hope things continue going the direction you've been praying for.
