@Cruzin TerriLast December I slipped on the ice in our driveway and twisted my ankle.  It was sore and black and blue and two days later when my DW had an appointment at a hospital I took the time to slip into urgent care.  They x-rayed it and found the tibia was broken.  So it can happen without knowing it.

Don't want to be nit picky, but it gripes me when someone doesn't understand that Taiwan is not China just like Ukraine is not Russia.  It would be correct to say that the Westerdam is at Keelung (Taipei), Taiwan.  We are stopping there in a few months and that is how Seabourn describes the stop.   Also if the Zaandam is at Punta Arenas, Chile, it is not at Antarctica.

We have had a beautiful day here in St Lucia.  We shopped at the port, then took the water taxi to Castries, and you guessed it, the professional shopping bag holder walked more as the ladies shopped. 😀 Yes, my wife doesn't read CC, so I can say that.  😀😃🙂

It just finished raining for the second time today, otherwise it's been perfect weather.

No plans tonight. After dinner will be playing holdem in the casino.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the day.

@57redbird I'm sorry to hear your improvement was so short-lived.

@Cruzin Terri I understand the position you're in. Hugs.

@seagarsmoker I'm glad you had a good day in St. Lucia.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the good responses to the epidural shots were so low. You get the impression that it can be a miracle treatment. But I'm sure they have to try non-surgical things first.

If this is directed toward me, please understand that the port names I use are copied from websites listing the ship's itinerary - I do not edit them. I don't know if HAL provides these port names, or someone maintaining the site edits what HAL provides. Unfortunately, I don't have direct access to the itineraries as listed on the HAL website.

Expect RNB to expose himself or something like that on the sailaway via PE cameras when he will be wearing a bright red shirt to cover his redneck!

After mentioning the epitaph on Rodney Dangerfield's headstone, I found a picture a little while ago.

I repeat. This is an impossible situation.  He will not go.

Terri

Terri, I don't know if this would work, but you might think about  using reverse phycology.  You could ask your DH if as a personal favor to you to help ease your mind with the cruise coming up, if he would consider getting an x-ray of his knee.  Let him know you'd feel some much better knowing there was nothing wrong expect a badly bruised knee.

Vanessa, I don't know why, but we thought the success rate of the epidural shots was better before he got them.  That could have been because the steroid shots in his hip worked for several years.  The other option the doctor mentioned was having pain management put a device like a tens unit in his back.  First, they would put one on externally to see if it would help.  DH did not want to go that direction.  The problem with the non-surgical route first, is it delays surgery if it's needed.  Part of the problem for DH was requirements by Medicare, and I bet other insurance plans work the same way.

Thanks for letting me know. Are you doing the maiden voyage of the Celebrity Ascent?

@aliaschief Nice photos!

@Quartzsite Cruiser I'm not sure about insurance requirements, but I also suspect most patients want to try something non-surgical first, in hopes it works.

The first time DH met with the surgeon who did the back surgery, he said Medicare required the patient to try non-surgical interventions first.  He'd already met the requirement to try the steroid shots and the only one left was wearing a back brace for a month to see if it would help.  Medicare will pay for a new brace every five years, so we still have it, even though it did not solve the problem.  DH did all he could to avoid surgery.

No, we are on the Reflection. Sailed on Beyond and Edge and did not like their infinity balcony.

Well, I tried to get a nap in this afternoon, but I kept hearing the grinder pump turning on and off in the space adjacent to the napping room.  It's at the back of the closet under the stairs on the other side of the wall.  Why was this pump running so much?  Apparently the lower level bathroom toilet tank flapper had a slight leak so the pump had to run every 5 minutes or so to move the water out to the street waste line.  In the south waste lines aren't buried as deep as in other localities so you have to move the lower level water up to where the builder placed the line in the yard.  A little complicated, but now the water is turned off at the toilet and will go out to buy a new flapper.  Don't want to waste water like that!  So at least my nap time helped discover that leak, even though it didn't help my lack of sleep last night. 😴 The lower level bathroom is only used a few times a week so we didn't notice it right away.

We're booked on the Beyond next fall and made sure to get a Sunset Veranda, NOT one of the infinity balconies.  I don't follow the Celebrity board often, but knew they aren't popular and I can see why! What a crazy idea.

We were a HAL ship in San Juan and the Celebrity Edge pulled up across from us. Both ships left port after 10 PM so when I went to the cabin after dark I looked over at the Edge and it reminded me of the movie Rear Window with cabins looking like apartments. I could swear through my binoculars I saw Perry Mason do in his wife just as Grace Kelly came into my cabin. What an imagination! 😀

Good morning friends!  It is all the way down to 30 degrees now!  Today will be sunny again though and about 58F for a high.  I should just be happy with that and bundle up when we have these cold spells.

Thanks to Rich @richwmn for the Fleet Report and Daily.  I see today is All Souls' Day.  Growing up that was the name of our Church, All Souls.  Yesterday was All Saints and my twin's church is named that.  They were celebrating the church's 200th anniversary yesterday with a dinner last night.  Ironic!  It's also Plan your Epitaph Day.  Yikes!  Let's move on.  Hurray for Men Make Dinner Day!  My DH makes dinner almost every night.  Lucky me!   I know for a fact we wouldn't enjoy the Curried Chickpea Stuffed Acorn Squash recipe.  Too many ingredients on our dislike list.  The drink of the day is pretty potent from what I've heard.  No thanks to the pinot noir.  And this day in history was a good one for Indonesia.  Thanks to our Food and Beverage ladies Debbie @dfish and Ann @cat shepard.  Today I'll post the drink recipe for Dixie but on every other day I give my thanks to Dixie @summer slope for taking on describing the drinks.  You are all three appreciated.

Prayers for the Care list individuals and their families, my family and friends in need of them, and all at war as well as hostages.  The news these days is so depressing you can hardly stand to watch it.  Prayers for all!  🙏Hurray for the Celebration list people!  Congrats to the Texas Rangers for winning the World Series. 🥂 I wonder if my newly minted Texas family members are fans already?  Will have to ask!  My thoughts to Graham @grapau27 on your late mam's 12th memory.  She must have been a wonderful woman.  Happy sailing to those on cruises, whether HAL or otherwise.  🚢

The port today is Kochi City, Japan.  It was listed here once on May 31, 2022.  I have not been there before.  Here is the link to that date so you can retrieve your photos from there.  Thanks in advance for taking the time to show us Kochi City!

Hoping all here enjoy their Thursday.  Stay safe and well!

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily update.  Cold here on this All Souls Day.  Not sure I’d want an epitaph, I think I’d rather be quiet when that day comes.  Men make dinner every night here, today will be leftover chicken marsala.  I really like Twain’s quote today, it reminds me to live a good life.  No on the meal suggestion, the combination doesn’t appeal to me.  Yes to today’s drink and wine though.  I have not been to today’s port.  Prayers for all on today’s prayer list including @grapau27 as he reflects on his dear mam and @Sharon in AZ on the loss of her aunt.  Cheers to all of you for being a part of this special place! 🥂

Good morning from a still cold but warming central Texas.  It is 34F and feels like 34F.  At least, the 2 mph breeze won't make it feel any colder.  The 92% humidity should drop as the sun warms the temperature since the dew point if 32F.  This afternoon we should see a high of 62F.  There is not much on the agenda today.

Three interesting days with All Souls' Day being important to many people.  DH doesn't make dinner, but does do a great job on the grill -- if the weather ever cooperates.  I won't be making dinner tonight either since I'll just be warming the leftover pizza.  I don't think I'll plan my epitaph, but I'll share my favorite one.  When Rodney Dangerfield died, at his request, his epitaph was "There goes the neighborhood."

The Mark Twain quote is a good one, and while I don't fear life, I don't think I'm prepared to die yet.

We'll pass on the meal mainly because of curry and chickpeas.  We'll also pass on the drink, but I would like to try the wine.

We have not been to Kochi, Japan

Today is an important day in Indonesian history, and I hope all the Indonesians on BHBs are able to celebrate.

@grapau27  Graham, I'll be thinking of you and Pauline as you remember your dear mam on her 12th Remembrance Day.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, thanks for sharing some of those epitaphs.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, thanks for filling in for Dixie @summer slope today.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad your boiler is working.  It is good that your DD and DS could plan you DD DH's last party and relieve you of an emotional burden.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Praying for all souls - wherever they may be!  DH  doesn't make dinner often unless I ask him to grill something.  He does buy pizza, though, so that counts, doesn't it?  I'm pretty sure my epitaph will read:  Cruising Through The Stars.

I'm sorry to see that our cold weather has such far reaching tentacles; this morning we're looking at -5C (23F) and expecting to reach 0 (32F), so it's jackets and gloves from this point on.  Later it will be the addition of warm scarves, switching out to heavier jackets, and then knit hats as well.

Yesterday we received our new cable modem (after downgrading our cable channels because we had too many we weren't watching), and of course, there weren't good instructions on how to set it and the television up together.  I checked the neighbourhood to see if the tech was available, but the grade 2 kid next door was still in school, so I invited a neighbour over to help.  A full hour later we got 1 tv working.  I might attempt the second one today after seeing (and hopefully remembering) what our neighbour did.

DH had a great conversation with his cardiologist who was checking on him after the pacemaker implant.  The brief phone appointment ended with the cardiologist telling him "Go and enjoy your cruise!"   Yay!!!   Now he has to go to the medical device clinic in a couple of weeks just to check how it's working.

I had to make an appointment with a tech company because the remote start on my car stopped working.  When we went to Calgary, we had to use the key to open the doors and couldn't leave it running to warm it up, so DH ended up sitting inside so nobody would steal it.  After explaining it to the person on the phone, it sounds like the modem may just need to be reprogrammed.  Can't get in for a couple of weeks, but at least it will get looked at.

@grapau27 thinking of you on the day of memories.

@smitty34877I'm glad your family is relieving you of some of the tasks in preparing your DD DH's farewell.

I'm thinking the drink of the day is similar in punch to a Wang Wang - all you really need is one.  LOL   I'm giving a pass on the meal of the day, but will say a definite yes on the wine.  Tonight we're going to enjoy some leftover baked spaghetti I had in the freezer along with a side salad and crusty bread at the kitchen table.  And wine.

WineClearance.jpg.dd0f9e0cdf42b966a3b8d20fd982a742.jpg

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those involved in natural disasters and wars.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️

I probably won’t be posting much after today while I’m with my ladies group. We have several meals planned and also going to Balboa Park one day. I hope I can keep up.

I will pass on today’s meal suggestion. I’d rather have sausage and rice stuffed in squash. Craig will cook if I request something special. He has a few really good recipes, one is chicken Marsala with the chicken cooked like chicken Parmesan. Yum.

Good morning to all.

Thank you to Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie and Ann for all you do to keep this thread going.

Interesting Days to celebrate.

We remember all those who have gone before us, especially, my mom, and Jim’s parents and brother.

The man in this house is not going to make dinner,

I am not ready to prepare my epitaph.  Hope I have a few more years.

i like the quote.  That is the way to live your life.

I have not been to the port.

As for the meal, Curry and I do not get along, so that is not even a consideration. Long Island Iced Tea would set me on my ear.  No way can I put that much alcohol in my system at one time. The wine sounds nice.

Kudos to Indonesia for achieving their independence.

Today i am tackling a few chores around the house and then trying to pack for the cruise.

My cleaning lady promises to find time for us before we leave so that the house will be nice and clean when we return.

Jim’s knee is quite swollen and he is limping.  I am a bit concerned.  He does not want to go to an urgent care.  i guess he knows how he feels.  I also think that if it were broken, he would not be able to walk at all.  It is quite black and blue.

i am sleeping better the last few nights and am happy about that.  Hope it keeps up.

Prayers for all on the Cares List.  @Sharon in AZ my condolences on the passing of your Aunt.

@JazzyV hope you are getting some relief from your pain.

@grapau27 you are in my thoughts today.

@smitty34877 my thoughts are with you as you prepare for Lou’s last party.  So thankful you have help.

@kochleffeland @Vict0riann my prayers for al great cruise and good weather and no more missed ports.

@mamaofami I hope Sam continues to improve.

@aliaschief thanks for taking us along on your cruise.  It makes think that SB may be in our future.

Cheers for all those celebrating.  If I missed anyone in the last few days, I’m sorry. I am still trying to catch up.

Hope everyone has a good day.

God Bless,

Terri

Good late morning,

I have a bit of good news. Baby Murphy has been moved to a lower level of care. The parents can stay in the room with her and have a bed and shower. They are weaning TPN and increasing feeds as well as weaning her CPAP. She keeps pulling the CPAP out so they hope to wean her soon. DB had a better night. I talked with him today and he sounded stronger. I encouraged him not to get behind the pain. He is very resistant to pain meds but realized he may need them for a few days.

My surgery for my resistant trigger finger was moved up to the 20th. That should give me sufficient time to heal before the GA cruise. This will motivate me to get organized before the 20th for my luggage forward.

I am glad to see the care list is much shorter than the celebration and cruise list. We are moving in the right direction.

Prayers and well wishes for all. Special thoughts for Graham today. You are never to old to miss your mom.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

I will remember my DM on this All Souls Day. BFF occasionally will make me dinner, but not today. I'll delay planning my epitaph, although I do want to make arrangements in advance, one of these days. Good quote. I'll pass on the meal. I like the drink, which can put you on your rear quickly if slurped too quickly. Yes to the wine also. I have not been to Kochi City. An important day for Indonesia.

We almost broke the record for low temp (25F) on this date. It was 26 this AM and is going up to 46F. At least it's sunny. And 60's for the weekend. Same old issues with sleep; I got about 3.5 hours. At least I managed a 1 hour nap yesterday afternoon, in the recliner. I saw the PMR (rehab) doctor today, as a follow-up. I'm going to increase my Gabapentin by 1 capsule a day to try to help the nerve pain. Also she sang the praises of the Neurosurgeon, whose PA I'll see tomorrow. And she filled out paperwork for a handicapped placard for my car, but I read it takes 6-8 weeks to get it.

@grapau27 Thinking of you and Pauline on this 12th memory of your dear mam.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for posting the drink recipe today. Sorry you didn't sleep well either.

@kazu Enjoy your lunch with your BFF. Ivan is a lucky dog to have ended up with someone as caring as you.

@Heartgrove It doesn't sound right that it would take that long to transfer data from the old phones to the new. And transferring stuff to the wrong phones! Oy!

@aliaschief That meal looks delicious.

@cat shepard I hope your electrical work passes with flying colors.

@Seasick Sailor I'm sorry to hear of your sleepless night. Enjoy girls' game night.

@Vict0riann Sorry you missed Cartegena. I stopped there once, and unfortunately my knee was so bad I couldn't do any walking. I just got off the ship to say I'd been there, and got back on.

@smitty34877 I'm so glad you have heat. The thermocouple on my boiler tends to go bad every few years. Your soup sounds good. It's great that DD and DS have done the organizing for Lou's remembrance; hugs to you all.

@Nickelpenny I do hope you get some answers before your cruise.

@ger_77 I'm glad DH got a good report from the Cardiologist, and the ok to cruise.

@bennybear Great Kochi photos.

@Sharon in AZ Enjoy your time with the ladies group, and then Craig.

@Cruzin Terri Sorry to hear about Jim's knee. It would be good to at least get an x-ray, if he'd go. That way maybe no surprises on your cruise. I'm glad you're sleeping better.

@cruising sister Thanks for sharing the good news about Murphy! I'm so glad to hear it. And also that DB is feeling better. And best to you for your surgery.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Thank you my good friends for your kind words to me today on my lovely late mam's 12th memory.

Paulines dear mams funeral was 5 years today.

I met Pauline 45 years ago today which was a Thursday too.

God bless you all.

Graham.

Thank you all for the X-ray suggestion.

I agree with you.

I repeat. This is an impossible situation.  He will not go.

I am 5’1”.  His is 6’.  Who do you think is going to win?

Terri

An X-ray now is better than getting medically evacuated from your cruise for something seriously wrong.

hate to be a downer, but the fact that it’s so swollen and discolored is a bit concerning… so better to safe now.

and as mentioned, if all ok.. he gets to say “ I told you so”

I'm sorry to hear your husband won't do the sensible thing and get an x-ray Terri but it is for his own good.

Some of us men can be stubborn but tell him or show him my post

Pauline insisted I went to A&E(ER) when I had unusual chest pain in December 2019 and it saved my life because they did 2 blood tests because they misplaced the first 1 but they then found the first test and my heart enzymes were much higher in the second blood test so my initial mild heart attack could have been fatal if I had not been in coronary emergency care.

Without @richwmn's content we would be nowhere.  I don't think it's fair to expect him to also be proofreader in chief.

Roy

I absolutely agree Roy @rafinmd

We all have a lot to be grateful for what Rich @richwmn does for this thread.

I'm sure we all don't get everything right all of the time,I know I don't.

If you are responsible for that content, then it is directed at you.  I have lived in Taipei for three years, have family there including my wife's family and know how Communist China has coveted Taiwan since 1949.  They constantly promulgate misinformation to imply that Taiwan is one of their provinces.  I assume that most people in the rest of the world know that, but also know that if people keep reading a lie that Taiwan is part of China, eventually they will believe it.  However, if you don't read what you publish or care whether it is correct, then I will have to accept that.

I agree that Taiwan should not be carelessly called China BUT its preferred name in English is Republic of China and for most of my life it insisted that it was the only China. I don’t like the situation but I wouldn’t fault anyone over the name unless I thought it was an intentional provocation, which I believe is highly unlikely here.

Thank you all for all your suggestions.

I have finally convinced DH to go to the Urgent Care.

We will go tomorrow morning after breakfast.

He has a dermatology appointment first. Then breakfast and then Urgent Care.

I will post when I can.

Thank you all for your support and help.
