NCL stock

Does anyone have experience with owning NCL stock and the resulting benefits earned for cruising?

No experience, but I do know that if you own 100 shares you'll receive $100 onboard credit. I'll leave the deets to others.

we've had 100 shares since covid shut down the cruising industry and cruise stocks tanked. you need at  least 100 shares to qualify

 

although we have taken about 6 cruises since since the industry opened up, i never took advantage of their stockholder offer. 

 

we're on a 17 day cruise in april, and the offer was $250 on board credit, all you need to do is fill out a form and show that you own the stock. 

 

if you google ncl shareholder benefits, it will give you a breakdown. i think (although i could be mistaken) is that up to 14 days you get $100 OBC. after that its 250

own 100 shares, then fill out a form and include a picture (or similar) of your brokerage statement showing you own 100 shares and you get an OBC.   Very easy.  I got $100 for my 7 day cruise I just got off.

Thank you for the info. Also curious to know how the credit can be used. On a recent cruise we received a $100 credit to be used on the ship (due to bad weather / port cancellations), however it could not be applied toward gratuities. Since we had pre-booked / pre-paid most expenses, the credit was effectively never used.

It is non refundable credit and it cant be used for Gratuities, Cruise Next Purchases or in the Casino, everywhere else is fine.

Apparently I need to book a tour or something during the cruise, instead of taking care of everything ahead of time!

Correct, you cant spend it ahead of time.
We used it in the shop for gifts, alcohol and cigarette for neighbours (we don't smoke), we took extra speciality meals and excursions.

Or you could buy things at the gift shops or go to the spa. And if needed, it will work for expenses at the medical center.

You can cancel and rebook the same Shorex while on the ship, and it should spend the Shareholder OBC and refund equivalent cash.  About 50% of the Shorex agents understand this and the others need some "help."

Onboard they let me cancel my pre booked excursions and immediately rebook specifically to use up non refundable credit.  It processed only through my onboard account so credit card reward points were not affected.

It could have been used for anything in the gift shop. Free shirt. Including $100 of candy or toothpaste to take home.

After booking my next cruise (Getaway 4/19/24), I applied and received the NCL credit card.

I spent the appropriate amount to receive the $250 of obc, but I'm not sure how to get that applied.

Does anyone have any experience with that?

That's different than the NCLH stockholder's OBC ... 

IMHO and others will probably tell you, OBC isn't the best use with that $250 ...

We leveraged it and just booked ahead (2024) an Oceanview (2nd highest category) and called into WorldPoint, spoke to an agent for a (single) Meta Upgrade, to a good mid-ship Balcony of our choice/deck based on what's available in their system ... that $250 is worth a saving (now) of about $1,200 since it's one of the longer itinerary.

I only used the cc for 1 purchase to get the obc. I don't have enough points for an upgrade, which is fine as I'll use this obc plus the shareholder obc to upgrade my wifi and purchase a dining package for my daughter.

I am sure I have also read that while it can't be used for gratuities, it can be used at customer service to additionally tip an individual member of staff such as your room steward.
Someone may need to conform this as I have not done it and its a vague memory.

The stock is way above where it was earlier this year but even if you buy 100 shares at $20, if you cruise frequently, it's a good deal.  The process is simple:  Fill out a form, send a redacted brokerage statement showing the holding, and it's in your account within a few days.

as i  said before, when the industry tanked i bought the 100 shares at $7.00 per. i figured that if i hold on long enough, the cruise industry might come bouncing back, and lo and behold, it has. for a $7.00  investment, i can hold onto the shares forever.

 

that being said, on rare occasions, we do purchase cruise next certificates(rarely, but sometimes) I understand that whatever amount you purchase you immediately get 1/2 that  as obc.

 

so, if my math is right, if i buy 8  for $2000, use the credit for that, im only being charged $1,000. if i use my $250 stockholder credit, the total costs for 8 CN certificates is now $750.

 

to be safe, we rarely buy anything on board, except for the last few days prior when i buy the t-shirts on sale. usually in port, rather than buy an excursion, we usually hire a taxi at 1/2 the cost.

 

and yes, the credit showed up in less than 48 hrs.

You can no longer us stockholder OBC for Cruise Next unfortunatly, I used to do the same, it was an ideal use of the credit.

thanks for the update, now the extra $250 seems unnecessary, as there is nothing else i need it for. i cant imagine buying 250 worth of ncl t-shirts, and we get 3 meals for the cruise, 2 for diamond status, and we bought the extra 5 meal package. (17 day cruise)

Yeah, the $100 stockholder credit sounds great, but since it's non-refundable, it's not really all that great. But the stock has shot up nicely in the past few weeks when I bought at $12.90. Closed today at $20.95. Only wish I had bought 1,000 shares, instead of a measly 100.
