If money is that tight maybe one should reconsider if a cruise is appropriate discretionary spending.

You don't know these people situation, it is bologna that RC holds funds that long, or at min should consider allowing those impacted to have the option to rebook prior to cancelling at the alternative location/choose onboard credit.

It’s not Royal holding the money; that’s a pretty standard (+- a day or two) to process a credit card refund.
I don’t need to know their situation, if waiting a couple weeks for a shore excursion refund hampers their ability to book something else (their words not mine) that’s a problem that should make one take a look at their budgeting.

👍🏼 If they are that tight on money I’m guessing there’s a big possibility that they didn’t take out medical coverage either. 🙄

You can bet on it

Not to mention kidnapping insurance, which evidently you need now to visit Labadee

Wait!  What?  Where is this swimming with the pugs!?!?!?!?

Sign me up!

Some people found swimming with the pigs to be "repugnant" so they changed it to swimming with adorable pug dogs.

Now charging twice as much.

🤣

My issue with Haiti stop right now is most governments, at least mine has a do not travel advisory which means my travel medical insurance would no longer cover me there. I don't plan to break a leg or anything sitting on the beach, but it they are accidents for reasons.

Heart says it's all good and go enjoy yourself. Brain says stay on ship (not to go into debt if something happen, at least so far am not worried about safety so far on Labadee)

I understand the safety concerns from all aspects. The money refund is not going to ruin my Cruise.I also understand that others have different budget constraints. I am disapointed that In part  we purchased the Wave Runer tour at a really good price. It was durning the Holiday sales. I would never have bought it a the higher price. None of the other excursion in the beach interest me. So it will be just another beach day,if we make it there.

News Agencies are reporting the Prime Minister has resigned.  The International Community is working hard to get a transition government in place.  Hopefully, the extreme violence and chaos will soon be over.

Considering CocoCay is several hundred miles away, that’s not a viable option. Locations in D.R. are nearby, however. Puerto Plata can accommodate 4 ships (at least) and seldom has that many. But I think Mariner already goes there with Labadee.

Not to mention that Coco Cay is already scheduled for two ships basically every single day.

As i've seen others post about, Labadee is VERY removed from the populated areas of Haiti (something like a 7 hour drive from Port-au-Prince??) so the likelihood of there being trouble is probably pretty slim.

However - maybe part of the consideration for cancelling these excursions might be that some of the locals who normally staff these excursions are not available right now?? Maybe their country is in the middle of a civil war and they don't have time to take us jet skiing???

I think everybody should enjoy their beach day, swim, eat the food, sit int the cabanas, tip the locals?!?! Be happy for a nice day at the beach instead of worrying and/or complaining that you can't go swim with pigs and therefore RC must be trying to steal your hard earned dollars.

Many of the islands we all enjoy in the Caribbean are unsettled and deal with poverty, unrest, political struggles. They usually hide this from us but sometimes it rears it's head.

We all (most?) can go home to our nice warm beds. They will live with it.

The locals don't staff the Jet Ski excursion. I did it and it was two crew members from the shore excursion staff. One at the front and one at the rear. We went 20 miles down the coast. About as far as some historic site we saw from a distance on land. Saw some of fishing lines we had to avoid and one or two  fishermen in very small boats that could hold  a couple of people.

You can tell where some of the locals live where the smoke comes up through the trees on the shore. Some are not very far from the compound(Royal's fenced in area.)

Royal evidently doesnt want people straying that far from the island.

I booked a boat that goes some along the coast. Did it once before but over 10 years ago. If still unsettled probably cancelled.

I find it mildly infuriating to know that it takes them only two to three nanoseconds to take my money out, but it somehow takes two weeks to put back in.

And all those breakout prisoners will walk themselves right back into jail.

The locals are not available right now? So what are they doing, heading to Port-au-Prince to join the violence or riding jet skis to Miami?

But it is an upcharge to feed the pugs and another upcharge to pet them.😁

While that may have been the case on your excursion, it was not the case on mine. When we did the Labadee Jet Ski excursion in December, it was 2 locals that where our escorts.

That should be an RCI windfall. Who doesn't want to pet a wet dog?

My wife and I had decided to just stay on the ship and rent a casita. At $149 versus $400+, and we each get a free drink and water with no sand, it was an easy sell. If the beach beds were $200, like prior trips, then we would have considered going ashore.

However, we originally did have Jet Ski reservations, but cancelled this week as we did not feel safe away from the beach area.  Just too many variables, especially with the US planning to help get troops into Haiti. We would likely just get worried and not enjoy the excursion itself.
