Some friends of ours got invited  to have dinner at the mysterious Study.  The had no idea who invited them or why.  They were part of a group of eight who were invited by a generous couple from a top tier cabin.  One can order from any of the specialty restaurants. In addition, the chef offered  a seafood entree as well as Kobe wagyu beef.  There were also served Camyus wine with dinner. They said that they enjoyed the experience.

When the Explorer was new we were invited to dine in The Study twice.  The tables at that time were for four, but we had no trouble requesting a two-top.  Yes, we were in a suite, but it wasn't the Regent Suite.  Since there was only one other table occupied, we figured perhaps we were chosen as very fortunate guinea pigs for this new Regent endeavor.  In any event, the room and staff do provide a quiet and pleasant venue for dinner.  (Boy, do you get stared at though when you walk through the supposed hidden doors in Prime & and Chartreuse to reach The Study).

Good Morning!  We are in the land of my ancestors.  We came from the Basque Country in Spain, added a little Taino Indian blood and you have me.

Yesterday was a bust as far as going to St Barths.  We anchored, took a few pics, and shoved off for PR due to the swells.  So, our unscheduled sea day continues our routine, except for TB surfing in the pool due to the size of the waves.

We had lunch in Prime 7 and, although delicious and prompt, left us wanting for more due to portion sizes.  So, we split an order of pork ribs.  It seems to us that Regent has reduced their portion sizes to more manageable expectations.  This is true at sit down restaurants and at dinner resulting in not feeling as if I need to be rolled out of the restaurant.

Dinner last night was at Compass Rose and it was probably the best we’ve had on this cruise.  The service was great and provided by Alvin who has been our waiter every time we are in Compass Rose.  We started with an ibérico ham app

IMG_2233.thumb.jpeg.1a11dd0f30bf948525d38f3d22c066b8.jpeg

Followed by a dinner portion of risotto and lobster for TB

IMG_2236.thumb.jpeg.fab643a87a6394c0769708e9580b1197.jpeg

And I had the heavenly sent Kari Kari pork chop. It was tender and juicy.

The dreaded Disembarkation Questionnaire has reared its ugly face.  We still have about seven more days to go.

Tomorrow: the first of two sea days.

La Rogativa.  This is where city folks came out to see Sir Francisco Drake enter the harbor with an invasion force. When he saw all the torches from the town folks he assumed it was a large army and turned his ships back to sea ensuring that PR remained a Spanish colony and not English.

Thanks for providing photos of my homeland (mi patria, PR).  Unfortunately, my last Regent Caribbean cruise did not stop there... so I will be booking another.  As others have said, your posts are very enjoyable, and we all wish to coincide in a cruise with you and The Boss.

Quick question is Gino still on piano in Observation lounge or has he finished.

He was on Splendor last year and he was great. He even learnt a new Scottish song and played it for us on our last night.

thank you 🛳🛳🛳🛳🐥

Thank you Z & TB for a very enjoyable & informative live review.  We will be on the Grandeur in November 2024 as a first time newbie on Regent.  If at all possible, could you share a spa menu please?  I've looked online & am unable to find a spa service list on Regent's website.  Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Keep enjoying the high seas; looks tremendous fun!

Here’s the price list for spa services on the Explorer I got by emailing SereneSpa@rssc.com. These prices don’t include a 20% service charge. This is current as of March 21 ‘24.

Sadly for us, but great for him, Gino has retired from cruise work and taken a new land-based job. He’s missed!

Good Morning! We are at sea now headed for Charleston.  Yesterday started with a long walk around town where we tried to get a piña colada at Barrachina but were closed.   This is one of two places in San Juan that claim to have invented the piña colada.

IMG_2278.thumb.jpeg.b1d8fa7a95ea7ac9e58516147d19a924.jpeg

After drying off from getting drenched in a rain shower, we got  ready to have lunch with one of my classmates, Dr Francisco Parga.

IMG_2282.thumb.jpeg.343f1986fff61ddb9702ce56cbfa8074.jpeg

Unfortunately, no food porn since I totally forgot to take pics of a fabulous lunch of rice and beans, plantain soup, cod fritters, grilled chops, and avocado salad.  This food is comfort food for me and sent me back to my days as a kid living on the island.

Upon return to the ship, we took a well deserved nap while The Boss went to the walking track during sail away.

IMG_1013.thumb.jpeg.e42481827c977f176a4422cea12ceae0.jpeg

Dinner was room service since we busted a gut from too much food at lunch, then early beadtime.

Internet:  the free WiFi is speedy and allows me to load pics in a blink of an eye in contrast to the old days that would take about five minutes per pic. There is no streaming unless you pay an additional fee.  Unless you need to stream, the freebie is more than adequate.

Thanks for the info. That’s a shame he was great. I hope his new  job is everything he wants. He will certainly be a big loss.

Good morning!

Another beautiful day yesterday.  As with every morning, I get up at 0600 and have coffee/breakfast with Terri and Ray at the Coffee Connection where we share our previous evening’s experiences and a few laughs.  The Boss gets woken up at 0800.  I love getting a croissant and French press coffee early in the morning.

IMG_2314.thumb.jpeg.7cd542f05da88153f7ac1581fa7d5073.jpeg

As with most sea days, i take a couple of naps, which for me is nature’s way of smiling on me.  I love my naps.  I wrap my naps around a couple of stops at the pool bar for water, Bloody Mary, and a couple of rums.

Evenings start at 1800 with a cocktail from Paul in the Meridian lounge where I wait for The Boss to make her grand entrance. Paul is one of the best bartenders onboard.

Dinner last night was in Chartreuse where we were seated in the back facing the windows.

We had the Alaskan king crab rolls

The halibut which TB declared it as one hell of a halibut

IMG_2306.thumb.jpeg.73acba1a2df4a781f987d6d08beb510a.jpeg

I also had an app portion of the very delicious rack of lamb.

IMG_2307.thumb.jpeg.e3f7b1d0b6004d30bd4fa1cb17c1f936.jpeg

Followed by a raspberry sorbet and

Petite fours

Rant time:  I WISH PEOPLE LEARNED TO SPEAK QUIETLY IN A RESTAURANT!!!  I don’t want to hear their yapping.  His laughter was something between a needle scratching a record and a hand grenade.

Thanks for the info. On our last Splendor cruise (TA), Marko was the pool bartender and did a terrific job of ensuring I stayed hydrated. Third seat from the left still there??

Is there a bluetooth speaker in the suites? I was just onboard in December, but I can't remember now! I was thinking of taking a HomePod Mini with us next week so we can play some music while out on the balcony.

So I guess you assume your neighbours on both side will love to hear your music. Headphones maybe?
