RUMOR- Princess to be smoke free

Let’s face it, smoking on ships is on the way out.  Banned in the cabins and balconies, now limited to a small segment of the ship. 

Cigars however, are a far different type of smoking than cigarettes.  Cigar Bars are indeed quite popular especially when combined with a bar stocked with excellent liquors and even some quiet entertainment. 

By no means permit cigar smoking on a ship, unless it is in a designated cigar bar…I believe Sir Winston smoked cigars, not cigarettes.

Agree with the poster about the Enchanted, worst for casino smell, which, BTW, is just one reason we too will be on a different line our next cruise.

This just made me laugh. Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls was one of the early adopters of the "non smoking casino".  This is my local casino and is huge! I wonder if the outdoor smoking area which is always packed and later added slot machines to the "non smoking casino" is included in the revenue total ?

Yep. The only time I spent more than a couple minutes at a cruise ship casino was on Celebrity where they are smoke-free.

I think they’ve been changed to an arcade on most of the Princess ships.

I wonder, is it because Princess attracts more smokers because of their policy or do the non smokers not mind breathing in second hand smoke and smelling like a dirty ashtray because they need to gamble?   I love to gamble, but you would not get me near a Princess casino.  I’m forced to sail with Celebrity if I want to visit a casino.

I like going to the casino but choose my spots/time carefully.  I am hoping this rumor is true but as always with Princess another wait and see what happens moment.

We find that if we stay on the non smoking side that it is not usually an issue. However there are times when our preferred machines are only on the smoking side with can be a turn off

We’ve found that some casino cruises are very full but, it was amazing one time recently on the Crown Princess, there were just not that many smokers.  We were such happy campers.  We enjoyed gambling on machines in both the smoking and nonsmoking sections because there just no smokers in the casino.  
Next time onboard that same ship, we could barely walk through the casino, as it was just so smoky.  
I really hate when people just stand in the casino to smoke .. wish they would all just go outside!  I know that nicotine if very addictive but we all have to pay the price for their habit?  I think not!

On Holland, Princess’s sister cruise line, casino smoking is only allowed on the newest biggest ships that have a better ventilation system. This is a recent change. Otherwise smokers have to go outside to the designated smoking area

We sailed on HAL Rotterdam last year and there is a small non smoking portion of the casino.  Not perfect, but considerably better.

I really Hope the rumor is true!

We got off Sky a few days ago, and spent a good amount of time in the casino.

It was unfortunate that so many smokers were allowed to stand around to smoke even though they were NOT playing.  Most people I've seen doing that on any ship past several years. 

We were masked the whole time in there, it was unbearable.

No reason those people couldn't smoke Outside in designated areas!

They Do it cuz none of the crew says anything.

Back in about 1974 I paid $80 (a bit over 47 hours gross wages if one was making the $1.65/hr. minimum wage) for a Pong game from Sears. It was expensive but... It had COLOR! True, it was green but not black and white! This was also the "golden age" of the Atari 2600 but it cost more.

 

Note: Fortunately, I wasn't making the minimum wage. Nope. I was a cook and made a phabulous $2.25/hr. 🤪

The area from the bar to the entrance near the piazza is filled with slot machines and yes, they seem loud to me. There was no jazz, or any type of performance, scheduled this week so we never went in the evening, but the slot area was full this afternoon when we had an unscheduled sea day due to bad weather in Costa Maya.
 

There is still no smoking in Take 5 and the problem of smoke in the casino has of course, not been addressed by this change. I did notice the arcade was absolutely packed today.

 

All in all, we’ve had a great week and absolutely love having a whole week with my son, his wife, and their baby. I didn’t miss Take 5 much this time but next time may be different m.

Thanks for letting us know!  Unfortunately, this smoking issue is not going to be resolved in the near future.  I can just stay away from the casino…..their loss.

 

How nice you had a great week with your son and grandchild.  Really, that’s all the matters, isn’t it.  Spending precious time with our family is priceless.
