MOU signed with Fincantieri by Crystal for two new ocean ships

Interesting to see the design evolution from the previous ownership/shipyard to the new ordered design. Appears a bit more traditional and conservative in the new 2024 design with the mid ship funnel, and straighter superstructure.image.thumb.jpeg.841bac5b87dc43cbb2a27e53c51e9ec7.jpeg

That's just a concept drawing. Nothing has been settled yet with respect to the design of the new ship except that it will have certain elements. How those elements will be designed into a cruise ship is yet to be determined.

Do you mean for Prestige?  Regent didn't just sign an MOU for it, that was done years ago. Crystal will do the kind of marketing in a couple of years that Regent is doing now, once more details are finalized and the timeline is firmer (not one of Fincantieri's strong suits lately), just as they did with their prior ships...  This is just the initial announcement, and Prestige is a couple years further into the process.

And when Disney makes an agreement for a new ship it's an MOUSE?

As Patty said I wouldn't get too granular since this is just a concept rendering and the ship hasn't been designed yet, but as you said the design elements that they chose even for the concept drawing were kind of interesting...  Especially the degree to which they borrowed from Crystal's legacy fleet.  All 4 of NYK's designs (including the 2007 project) had many of the superstructure's elements, like the full forward terraces and the bulwark "waterfall" pattern fore and aft.

The Diamond-class designs also had Crystal's first aft pool (besides the upper deck one)...  For some reason that feature really caught my attention, and makes me curious to see in what ways Crystal modernizes with the new ships, and in what ways it follows its legacy.

Another concept rendering with a stern view. With it being built at Fincantieri (which is known to reuse base platforms across various cruise lines), definitely has some faint similarities to the general arrangement to MSC's Explora 1:image.thumb.png.e33be0d1e8136d6c153814e1ca882720.png

Where are the solo rooms going to be? I hope that not again forward on the ships…and how will it work out with the promenade deck?

Ivi

i hope the single cabins are somewhat larger - i am not searching for a PH like

but some more space should be appropriate

So....cabins for singles at the same size as other rooms, but at a reduced price.

Gotcha.

Well then by that logic it might behove my husband and I to each get a separate cabin for more space at the same price.   I do hope we can get adjoining cabins. 🙃

My question was not rhetorical.  Do you propose to lengthen the ship to acccommodate the same number of cabins, but widen them?  Or widen the ship to lengthen them?  Both would have repurcussions for port docking or canal services.  (I doubt increased floor to ceiling height was meant!)  Or eliminate the crew service area between port and starboard cabins?  Or reduce the # of cabins to accommodate the increase square footage?  This would have an impact on costs.

I truly am interested in what passengers are willing to forego in order to achieve their suggestions.

Sounds like a discussion about the casino.

With recent specifics released about the casino someone said great news, can you improve the odds (assume they are talking about slot machines). They went on to say after all this is entertainment.

I am thinking given that Crystal said they eliminated the casino because often they lose money and then came back to say they would do a casino but in a smaller footprint. Seems the person wanting the lower odds doesn't case if they lose money or if those of us who don't gamble pay a higher cruise fare to subsidize the losses that could occur.

I had to scratch my head and think are you kidding me when I read about this.  😃

Oh well.

The wants of cruisers most reminds me of the kid on Santa's lap.  A long list, but little recognition of what is necessary for it to all occur.

All life is a succession of cost benefit decisions.  More folks need to study up on the economic principle of scarcity and allocation.

All part of the design considerations.  Remember the Crystal ships ae no where near the largest cruise ships around and the bigger ones manage.   All part of the design process and why you hire experts and why it takes a "long" time to design a vessel.

"A standout feature will be a promenade extending through the whole ships’ perimeter, similar to those loved by guests on Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, for leisurely strolls with stunning ocean views."

What do they mean by "similar"? It's either like the one we all love, 360 degrees, or it's not.
