The Fleet Report and Daily for Monday August 26th, 2024

Along with two cruising friends, and to celebrate the birthday of one friend, we did b2b cruises on Marco Polo.  On August 21, 2005, we docked in Tromso on a wet and rainy day.  Even with the less than desirable weather, DH and I saw quite a bit of Tromso and enjoyed our day.  Unfortunately, on the rest of our Norway cruises, Tromso was not on the itinerary.  I'm hoping to get back there sometime.

Please, in the future, keep food in the photo. It brings back memories of what I use to eat! You can also include cotton candy, candy bars, any kind of chips, etc!

@grapau27 A day late, but thank you for bringing us Father David again this week.  When I was watching, I saw to my right on the screen, a youtube video of your Church Choir, so I watched.  Somehow I was thinking it would have been church music, only to find out it was pop music.  Good choir.

I appreciate your pictures of the sea every day.  With or without food.  😸

Thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I am a cat person but will celebrate National Dog Day in memory of my St Bernard, Brandy, I had growing up, as well as the other 2 days.  I do not like the quote (or the alternative) but I would take the meal without the butter beans.  Pass on the drink and I would like the wine and I have never been to Norway.  Cool days in history.

No monsoon action is in the forecast today but should ramp up this week.  Northern Arizona had some tragic flash floods and one person was swept away (they did find her about 20 miles from where she was swept away - tragic).  Presently it is 80F with 46% humidity and we might hit 100F.  I still find this very pleasant as the humidity decreases during the day.

Today is putzing around day and trying to get rid of some the things I really don't need anymore - like clothes in my closets.  I have so many ones that I wore when I was heavier and I am afraid to toss them "just in case".  We will see what I come up with.

@ottahand7 I am sorry to hear about your DB; I hope things go better for him

Safe travels for @StLouisCruisers, @aliaschief and DW, and @Cruzin Terri and DH.

Happy Anniversary to @CrabbyPatti (I love that name!!) and @jodi58!

@Vict0riann I am glad your DH was discharged and I hope the night went well.

Thoughts for those in the world in war zones and those that need extra support.  Cheers to those celebrating.  Have a great Monday everyone!

Good morning.  Prayers for all suffering with illness or other issues.

Our friend, whom some of you have been praying for - thank you, passed away peacefully last night.  He was back and forth between rehab and the hospital.  Infection and pneumonia was the ultimate cause of death.  I am sorry I am not with DH now because I know how he must feel.  Those guys were best buds and business partners for around forty years.

In St John Canada today and will be out looking for a good lobster roll shortly.  Best wishes to everyone and have a great day.  Katherine

Good morning, Dailyites,, Pat is still asleep, which I guess means he didn't sleep all that well last night.  He did have a long nap after we came home from the hospital, and that can b e a bad thing!  I like today - dogs and toilet paper, reminds me of our lovely chocolate lab, Trapper, who would take the end of the t.p, very carefully in his mouth, and run with it!.  What fun!

We were in Tromso in 2013 on the beautiful Ryndam, with our DD, in a Neptune suite.  The cruise was memorable.  We always have a great time with her, and our day in Tromso ended with the Midnight Sun!    There was a huge line for the shuttle, so we decided to go to the nearby botanic garden, there were a lot of familiar plants - the garden was fairly new, I think, mainly rocks and scree.  Then we went back to the port and took the shuttle into town.

Today's progress report - DS allowed me to walk to the mailbox & back with the cane this morning. I'm hoping the therapist will be suitably impressed tomorrow! Now, when can I get back behind the wheel??

A lovely morning, but the humidity and temps are going up. A possible storm this afternoon. I guess  it's still summer!

Best wishes and prayers for all!

Good morning all!
I will celebrate all 3 days today, and will let DS and DDIL know that today is my grand-pups' day.

I don't agree with the quote, will pass on the meal and wine but the drink sounds pretty good.  We've been to Norway but not to Tromso.  Thank you for all the photos. 🙂

We will get up to the low 70's today, but the rain is coming back tonight and tomorrow.  Then sunshine and mid-high 70's as far as the forecast shows.  I need to get out to do some yardwork before the rain starts.

Asking what the Dailyites think -- we will be traveling later this month (flying) and again in early November for a cruise.  I was going to get a Covid booster, but see that my last one was only 9 months ago.  MyChart says I was due after only 6 months....not sure I agree with that, and my doctor probably wouldn't either.  If the vaccine had changed for current the current variation I would agree, but I don't think it has.  What do you think?  I'm thinking of just getting my annual flu shot and wait closer to one year from my last Covid shot.

Happy 46th Anniversary Denise @CrabbyPatti!

Happy 46th Anniversary @jodi58!

Gerry @ger_77My condolences on the passing of your DH's friend.

@Lady Hudson I'm sorry to hear that DH's and your friend has passed away.

Nancy @ottahand7 I'm surprised to hear your DB was released from the hospital so soon.  I hope he's doing ok.  Yikes about the wolf!!  I would have no hesitation to shoot it too, especially if it was after my dog.

Ann @cat shepard I haven't heard much about your upcoming trip to Egypt.  Will you be posting while you're gone?  Would love to hear all about it.

Edi, you are making good progress after your surgery.  We may have trouble keeping up with you on the cruise next year.

Carolyn, from what I've seen on the news and read, the new vaccine was developed to cover the new strain of Covid, and that is why is was approved earlier than was expected.  Seniors, especially those of us over 75 and those with compromised immune systems and chronic issues, are urged to get theirs soon.  Since our last Covid was last October, we're getting our boosters as soon as our pharmacy gets a supply.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

I know many here are celebrating National Dog Day; I've never had a dog. Toilet paper is important! I salute women who design and manage websites. I'll disagree with the quote. I'm not sure about cauliflower steak (I like meat, lol). Maybe on the drink and maybe for the wine. I haven't been to Tromso. 2 good days in history.

It's 84F and hazy. It's much more humid, and there may be scattered storms. Today is back to school for the biggest school district in the area and several others. Later today BFF and I will go to the TA to book the 2025 Alaska cruise with friends. We couldn't persuade them to sail on HAL, so it will be on Princess.

Sad news from a nearby town, where there was a bad fire. A 19 year old young woman who was 6 months pregnant was rescued, but died at the hospital and the baby didn't survive either. The rescuing firefighter was injured, but will be ok.

@CrabbyPatti Happy 46th Anniversary!

@jodi58 Happy 46th Anniversary! Exciting about a new grand baby on the way!

@StLouisCruisers Safe trip home. Lovely photos from Tromso. I'd like to get to Norway one day.

@kazu Praying you can get done what you need to do.

@ottahand7 I hope your DB is doing better. I assume he'll be getting antibiotics at home. Yikes on the wolf up on the neighbor's deck; I guess the dog could smell the scent left.

@smitty34877 I'm sure it's keenly felt when DB leaves. Enjoy the movie marathon!

@Denise T Nice photo of Fancy.

@Cruzin Terri Safe travels to Jacksonville and good luck with the doctor appointments.

@Sharon in AZ Nice Bar Harbor photos.

@aliaschief Safe trip home.

@ger_77 Sorry to hear of the passing of DH's classmate.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Nice Tromso photos.

@Lady Hudson I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your and DH's friend (sorry I don't recall his name). Condolences to you, DH and his family and friends.

@Vict0riann I hope Pat wakes up feeling better. Thanks for the Tromso photos.

@NextOne It sounds like you're making good progress. Good luck seeing the therapist tomorrow.

@Cruising-along My understanding is that the new Covid vaccine has changed to better align with the new variants. I had the 23/24 version not too long ago because of an upcoming cruise, and I didn't know when the 24/25 one would be out. I will get that one too. Being immunocompromised, I think I can get it 4 months after the last one, but I need to find out.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Vanessa and Lenda thank you!  I didn't know this, I must live under a rock 🤣

I will arrange to get my booster.  I hate getting both it and my flu shot the same time (always have side effects even with just one) so will space them out.

That's what I always do, after a bad experience of getting two at the same time.

The updated covid vaccine should be available next week. I plan to get it right away, but I'll wait on the flu vaccination because the flu season here in the middle of nowhere starts and ends later than in large cities.

Carolyn, I called our local pharmacy, and they haven't even called to see about stocking the vaccine.  The other pharmacy's phone is not working, and I think it's because the grocery store sold their pharmacies to a big chain,  Things haven't been good there since then.  I'll check with them when I go to the store tomorrow.  W-M pharmacy didn't pick up when I was finally switched from the auto answer bot to the pharmacy.  We've been getting both the flu and Covid vaccine in the same arm at the same time with not much reaction.  If the Covid is available before the flu, we'll them them separately.

Joy, I'm so very sorry your sister got such bad news and is facing more surgery next week.  I hope the other two tests are negative.  Sending positive thoughts for a good outcome with the next surgery.

OK for all three of the days but I'm not doing anything special to celebrate them.

I like grilled cauliflower but it doesn't meet my definition of steak, and I don't especially like butter beans. I would probably skip the cocktail. AFAIK there is still no Zinfandel grown in the FLX, although given zinfandel's confused origin, it is hard to be sure. I'll nominate Zweigelt, grown in Austria for red wines and not as heavy as Blaufränkisch, going with one from Fulkerson's, $25. "An early ripening Austrian red grape variety that is soft, fruit driven and medium bodied. A dry wine with medium tannins and pleasing cherry and currant fruit flavors. A very easy wine to drink."

Hugs for you and your sister, Joy.  We will keep her in our thoughts.

We’re in Halifax today and did an excursion on a tall ship.  We cruised the coast and mainly looked at houses for rich people.  It was different, but I don’t think I would do it again.

If we weren't going to travel this fall I would wait on the flu shot too.  Usually I get it late October-early November.

Lenda

Lenda I've sent a message to my doctor.  That's the question, does anyone have it yet?  If my clinic doesn't know when they'll get it, I'll check with our local Haggen pharmacy.  They seem to always get it before my clinic.

Devastating news here. My sister has results from 2 of her biopsies. There was cancer found in a lymph node and she needs to go back next week for more surgery. The other 2 tests are still in a petri dish.

Oh Joy I'm so very sorry to hear this. 😞  Sending hugs and prayers.
