    Fingers crossed for @Cruzin Terri!

I knew I forgot to mention something and it was about the Kitchen Klutzes.  Yes, I am in that group.  It is a subset of the Messy Painters Guild and the Messy Bakers Club.  I also agree that being a klutz is not limited to the kitchen.  I can be a klutz just about anywhere.

@smitty34877 Terry, I believe you are the one who responded to my desire to hike Jordan Pond.  I've wanted to do that for a long time.  We set out to do it a few years back and missed the bus by a couple of minutes and had to wait an hour for the next one.  Then, the bus we were on broke down and we had to wait for a replacement bus.  By the time we got there, we had time to look at the lake and go back to town to catch our tender.  I'm hoping we have better luck this time!

Debbie, as I uspected, Messy Painters Guild, Messy Bakers and Kitchen Klutzs are related, the last two particularly.

Back from the Urologist - f/u visit for the kidney stones. I took the reports for the 4 tests/panels the ER had done & he was able to access the images via their system. He showed me the stones - 1 lower in the right which caused last week's pain & 3 more up higher plus 1 up high in the left.

Gave me a strainer and a hat, said to go to his hospital if I can't get through the next round and they'll call him in. He scheduled another scan for late next week.

Says given my A1C is good & I have no history of high glucose, no need to worry about the elevated glucose as it's likely a response to the stress. Same for the other things that were out of whack. Also said no need to f/u on the liver cyst that was noted in the scan report.🤷‍♀️

So it's all good until it's not.

A Mavs🏀 victory would help me feel better.

Sounds like you got a goid report over all today.

  2. Good afternoon.  DH has an appointment tomorrow morning at UTSW for another shunt adjustment.  It is at 9 am, so we have to leave no later than 7am.  I may not be around until after we get back from Dallas.  We just hope the traffic isn't too bad tomorrow.

I'm also doing another happy dance this afternoon.  My passport card arrived in the mail today.  All that is left is the old passport which should be here soon.

@Lady Hudson Katherine, an early Bon Voyage.  I hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, just wanted to let you know, we haven't been to tomorrow's port, so you don't need to waste time looking for my pictures.

Good sunny afternoon, tomorrow is supposed to be hot with possible thunderstorms. Next week is supposed to be hot and humid.
Shirl is back to being unhappy after last night she had said she liked the place and would stay. She called a little while ago and asked why she was there and when did she agree to it. She plans to leave as soon as she can and hung up on my brother. He sent her son a text. She also wanted to know if anyone was taking care of her house.
Blessings and prayers to all on our journey.

You and your BD are angels to take Shirl's calls and to try to help her adjust while keeping her DB in the loop.  I hope she will adjust to her new home soon.

Well, besides dealing with Shirl and her issues, Ikust received a letter that my Neurologist is leaving Hershey as of June 28th. The letter doesn’t say who is replacing him. I guess that’s why I received a previous letter that my appointment was changed because he would be out of the office that week. I wish they would’ve been more specific about his replacement.

Oh no, about your neurologist leaving the practice.  It would have been nice if you had learned sooner, and been given information about the new doctor.

Latest email from AA.  Our flight is now leaving Barbados at 5:15pm and arriving in Miami at 9:10 pm,   Flight to JAX is at 10:36 pm.  It is anyone’s guess if we make it.

Again we have 5* service and we packed an emergency bag.  So if we get to JAX we have our overnight stuff in the event our bags do not make the connection.  We will wait for them in the morning and then be on our way.

If we don’t make the connection 5* service will have a hotel booked for us.

Why did I ever think this trip was a good idea!

    Terri

Terri, I'm sorry the plane is delayed again.  I hope this is the last change.  I'm sure when you booked the trip, it was a good idea.  It was circumstances beyond your control that caused al the problems.  Sadly, you and your DH were the victims of too many SNFUs.

Thanks for the daily and fleet report (I do like the ones with the names of people on the ships but I know that takes a lot of work.  I do appreciate when Roy @rafinmd does it). I have always wanted to try axe throwing and there is a place near me that does it.  I don't understand or like "rap" (it is NOT music) so I won't celebrate that but kitchen klutzes - I try not to be one.  LOL!! I understand with the sentiment of Plato's quote; I just don't agree with it.  Not a fan of radishes or the drink or the wine.  I have never been to the port but I have been to Brussels a couple of times but not from a BHB.

Wow, that is a long standing treaty!!  I had to go look it up to see what it was about:

"The oldest alliance in the world that is still in force is the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance or the Treaty of Windsor of 1386 between the English and Portuguese Kingdom. These two nations, today the United Kingdom and Portuguese republic, stated they would never wage war against each other and would always provide aid to each other. This alliance is still valid today, making it the oldest continuous alliance in the world!"

Yesterday I went early to go get my new rim and they didn't have enough staff so they asked me to return around noon, which was fine with me.  I have been a customer of theirs for almost 8 years and trust them; when I first came back to the States and bought a 1995 Toyota Camry, they checked it all out and gave me their recommendations in order of importance.  I don't think they have ever steered me wrong.

So I came home and ........... booked my free cruise for winning the lottery draw on my last cruise!!  I will be doing a 7-day Baja Peninsula on Konningsdam Jan 2025.   I looked really hard at the Caribbean ones but with the cost of flights, it just didn't seem like the cost to use my "free" cruise would be worth it.  So I am excited about that one!!  Parking booked as I will drive over to San Diego and back.

I have turned off my alarms so I wake up when I wake up; today it was late for me - almost 0630!  I really need to go grocery shopping today.  While I was doing internet work this morning, I watched the Top Chef episode from last night.  It was funny to see how they got from Curacao to Half Moon Cay in an episode!!  I am a fan of any of the cooking shows - Masterchef, Top Chef, etc.  In fact, I went to the "Demon Chef" - Alvin Leung's - who is a judge on Masterchef Canada, restaurant in Hong Kong and reserved the chef's table in 2015.  OMG!! He was there and so he was the one cooking for me. It is a memory I will cherish. A pic of him and I:

  5. It is still sunny, but as usual for this part of Texas in the spring and summer, big, fluffy clouds are building.  However, there is no rain in the forecast.  My errands are finished, and the one I dreaded the most was the easiest.  Since we do not have home mail delivery in Quartzsite, all property owners are entitled to a free PO box.  Each year, you have to fill out a census form to keep the box.  In the past, we just had to verify the information, but now, we have to prove we own property each year.  This means taking something showing you own property into the PO, but since our month for the census is in June, we have to go to the Whitney PO.  This is the first  year the clerk handled it without a lot of hassle.

There is an axe throwing place in our county seat across from the courthouse.  It is in an old bank building.  We have no plans to check it out.

Good morning. The warmer weather is heading our way but right now it is 67 with an expected high of 85. It has to be rather humid as my newly washed hair is very big with lots of frizz and curls.
Axe throwing is not a desired activity for me and I have had my share of klutzy kitchen events. We were in the port on our last cruise on the Prinsendam in 2018. It was a beautiful place and we enjoyed our visit.

i was sorry to see the effects of the rain in Southern Florida and hope all our Dailyites are alright.
We are much improved here but of course the same virus has attacked the two men in the family. It was to be expected but at least it was of short duration. Not much planned for today as we regroup and come up with something acceptable to most for dinner.
Safe travels to Terri and Jim.

Terry, I'm glad the three girls are feeling better, but sorry the guys now have the bug.  I hope it is short lived for them too.

These peonies were originally at my grandmother's house in Beaver Falls, PA. They have been divided and moved several times over the years. They are probably well over 100 years old. My dad remembered them from when he was a child and he was born in 1923. Peonies are almost immortal when well cared for!

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!  I'm thinking that during Plato's time, there wasnt heavy metal music. Ah romance....

@dfishRadisihes related to cabbage?  I would have thought carrots. or Turnips.  I envy you your hot temperatures, as ours will be going up to 97 or higher this weekend.  They said with the humidity it will feel like more than 100.  Thank goodness that the air conditioner man came yesterday.

This morning the view out the window is cloudy (no rain in the forecast) with hummingbirds. I did open the windows, in the front of the house, and the 3 "boys" are in the window sills and cat basket checking out the flight patterns.

Today is another day where someone has to stay home and wait.  Home Depot told DH on Tuesday that they will send someone out today to pick up the old laundry stuff (which should have been taken away on Saturday) and to replace the hose that was too short.  I have been able to do laundry, but I wish the machine was in the place for the washer, and not flush against a wall, sideways in the "mud" room.  But they didnt give us an estimate on what time someone will be here, so I need to go out and run a few errands before I "go" to work.

My vein and heart doc called yesterday to tell me that my appointment on Friday has been changed.  She asked if I was having problems with my leg, and I said, it was tingly and twitchy and she said, ok, your appointment has been changed for a month out. This morning I got a call from Emory that my lung doc has scheduled my next CT scan without contrast.  And that got scheduled for July.and just looking at next week and I have an appointment to get to or get DH to every day but thursday.  The older we get the busier we are.

When we lived overseas in the early 60' we often went to Brugge, and I would eat my weight in chocolate and get sick as a dog.  You would think it would break me of the chocolate addiction, it didn't.  I just switched to dark chocolate, doing much better...LOL.

Speaking of flight patterns, I checked Miami Airport, delays are only 15 minutes, arriving and departing today, so as along as @Cruzin Terri has a break between flights, she should be OK.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and thank you all for the well wishes for DH's birthday yesterday. He really did appreciate  them.

I have been to Zeebrugge a few times including Nieuw Statendam in 2019.

649 years is a long time to be true to a treaty,.

I like radishes but wouldn’t consider them a meal..  My alternative is Chilled Bannana Soup, Tossed Seasonal Treens, and Chicken with Dried Cranberries and Orange Relish as served on MS Prinsendam on June 13, 2015.

Not sure what I will do today but as much as possible to be ready for tomorrow.  It will be hot today but brutally hot then..

Today's sunrise was from my 2015 Prinsendam British Isles cruise.  On June 13 we visited Foynes/Limerick, Ireland:

    dawn0613.jpg

We had a bit of drama that day.  You know how they say they will wait for you if a ship tour comes back too late.  Well, Foynes is some distance up the River Shannon.  After several early tours left the pilots told Captain Roberts that due to tidal/current conditions we needed to leave a half hour earlier.  The last tour bus showed up at the pier just in time to see us sailing away.  We headed about 2 miles downstream to a safe anchorage before sending a tender back to pick up the missing group.

    Roy

Roy, I'm glad the ship was able to get the last bus of passengers back on board.  We had the Noordam III move from Monaco to Ville France due to weather when we were out independently.  They arranged shuttle busses to get the passengers from Monaco to the ship.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I've never thrown an axe, although I've used one frequently during our camping years.  Had no idea who Doe B was, as I'm not into rap "music".  I can probably be included in Kitchen Klutzes, after having tossed several pans of pasta or vegetables down the drain over the years (overshooting the strainer or it moved out of place).

The sun this morning was short-lived, as the skies are clouded over once more.  It looks like we had rain again overnight, and there's a 30% chance of rain again today - we need heat, please!  I know many of you are suffering through brutal heat, but if you wouldn't mind sending just a bit of it northward, it would be appreciated.

Yesterday at the cardiac rehab program went well; DH completed 3 full laps around the walking track, then spent 15 minutes on a recumbent stepper.  Interesting thing was that although he was straining with the exercise, his heart rate never went above 60, which is what his pacemaker is set at.  It may explain why he gets winded walking up stairs, as his heart isn't beating fast enough.  I've got a call into the cardiac device clinic to see if there's an explanation for this.  I know it's supposed to kick in and bring his heart rate up to 60 when his own fails, but I didn't think it was to act as a governor as well.

@Cruzin Terriwishing you a safe, and uneventful journey home today.

@marshhawksorry to hear you fell yesterday - are you alright today?  You're sure busy with your job and all of your and Chuck's medical appointments!

@smitty34877glad the ladies are in recovery mode; hope the men in the house get over the bug quickly, too!

@aliaschiefI'd advise you to check prices at the big box store - our neighbour saved lots of $$ just recently by going there.

Not a lot happening here today, I might take some time to clear out one of our glass curio cabinets in the living room - it's time to clean all the glass (a job I don't relish), so it sparkles once more.  And after that, I "should" clean the china cabinet where I keep all our hand painted stemware . . . that will be an all day job, and a not today job.  LOL

I'm going to pass on the drink, the wine, and didn't we have cooked radishes once before?  I like them in salads, and when they're pulled fresh from the ground, but haven't ever had them cooked.  Today's the day when I'll be reheating the stew we were going to have earlier in the week so we can enjoy it on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in storms, and in wars.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

    Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry, I hope you get some answers about the pacemaker setting.  BTW, I can't help wondering if the Kitchen Klutzes are also the Messy Painters.

Good Morning from a cloudy and soon to be raining day at the beach

Our rain continues but no flooding thank goodness. This weather pattern is expected to last for a few more days.

There is actually a place near here that has ax throwing. They host all sorts of events, team building etc. I have not done it but know several, including my son that have.

    Kitchen klutz? I can relate.

Have not been to todays port but it is on my list. Thanks all for the pictures.

Will pass on todays meal. The quote is a good one.

There is a launch scheduled for this afternoon but the probability is low at this point.

Not much on the agenda today. Golf cancelled. Will try again on Saturday morning early.

    Stay safe and enjoy today

Charlene, I hope you continue to avoid flooding with all that rain.

Thanks to everyone who shared pictures of Brugge, Ghent and Brussels. We will be there in exactly one month!!  Can hardly wait. We have been to Brussels before, for one day—-about 20 years ago. Excited to see Brugge and Ghent.

It's just my opinion, but we found Bruges much more interesting than Ghent.  It would be difficult to see both in one day and to do them justice.

    Good morning,

We're having a sunny morning and that's nice as rain is in the forecast for the weekend. I'm not a radish fan and there was a "Passengers vs Officers Axe Throwing Contest" on Majestic Princess last week. I understand the axes were plastic.

Yesterday was two water aerobics classes then I headed home. DS came over and we had a couple of hours together. He's finishing up his first quarter at the local junior college, did well (he got his GED about 30 years ago) and is now aiming at getting his BA and Masters. He wants to go into Human Services. Mom helped him out with some money yesterday as he hasn't been working. Worth every penny! His Dad would be so proud of him. DS put on a new toilet seat for me, filled the two smaller hummingbird feeders and moved some boxes. He also called my Mom to chat. She doesn't hear as well when we call on our cell phones so the land line is better. She was supposed to have a procedure done next Monday but it's now postponed until sometime in July.

Today I need to finish unpacking, sweep floors, do some organizing, etc. I have to get something made to take to the Widow's Support potluck tomorrow. After the potluck I'm meeting DS to pick out baseboards and he'll install those for me. Two weeks today marks the one-year anniversary of DD DH's passing. Not sure what I want to do that day so it's weighing on me a bit. I'm not sure if I want to go for a drive to one of our fave spots, stay home, or what. I guess time will tell. It's the last "first" for me to get through and remember - I'm a tough old broad!

    Enjoy your day!

    Karen

Karen, I know your last "first" will not be an easy day.  You could wait until that morning to see what you feel like doing.  I hope all your good memories will make that day easier.

Good morning, Dailyites!  Pat made it home safely last night, the flight was delayed, of course, so we got to bed after midnight, and he was up at 7, full of energy.  My holiday is over!  Cleaning lady comes today, so we are busy tidying up for her...  Next week our visitors (the California cousins) arrive - I haven't even started thinking about what to feed them, how to entertain them, etc., my mind has been elsewhere.  We have invited one set of local cousins to dinner one night, and I think we'll invite the other local cousins to join us at Butchart's for tea.  But I am procrastinating.  Can't seem to get in gear and get going.

Prayers going out for Terri, Terry and Tana, Annie and Chuck (sorry I missed the birthday yesterday, hope the breakfast was good!), Jacqui, and all the others with worries.

    Definitely peony season here, too.

  6. These are pictures from our two times in Bruges.  In 2004, in addition to walking around Bruges, we also took a boat ride on the canals.  Bruges was quite a bit more crowded on June 2004, than it was in September 2016.  These pictures are a combination of both visits.

  7. In 2011 on the Prinsendam, we took a tour to Ghent.  I'm glad we got to see the town, but it is not as picturesque as Bruges.  We were there on a Sunday, and there were not many shops open, so we had more free time to wander around the older part of town than we needed.  The tour included a boat ride on the canal that goes from Ghent to the Scheldt River.

These are a few of the pictures from the boat ride.

  8. Since @richwmn Rich mentioned Brussels in today's destination, I'll include some pictures from our 2008 visit there.  This time we were on the Prinsendam and docked in Antwerp.  After an hour tour that morning of Antwerp on the Ho-Ho that did not have any stops, we took a tour to Brussels.  It was a good thing it was a ship's tour since we were late getting back to the ship.  The weather in Brussels went from bad to worse, with a heavy downpour as we were leaving town.  Our bus driver got lost, and we got to see more of the town that planned.

These first pictures are from the Brussels Expo site which was the place of the 1958 Expo.  The third one is the Atomium.

  9. Good morning from a sunny ☀️ central Texas.  It is 74F with 100% humidity with a dew point of 73F.  However, there is no condensation on the window this morning.  Our predicted high will be 94F.  Last night, for the first time in many, many days, I saw the moon.  Today will be busy with errands this morning and laundry.  I plan to get the first load in the washer going before I run my errands.

I'll skip the axe throwing for everyone's safety.  I hope Doe B's fans celebrate the day.  I can be a klutz in the kitchen; actually, just about anywhere.

    An interesting quote from Plato.

We'll skip the meal, drink and wine.

We have been in Zeebrugge three times, going to Bruges twice and Ghent once.  We were there once on Noordam III, and twice on the Prinsendam.  We have also been to Brussels once when Prinsendam docked in Antwerp.

It is interesting the world's oldest treaty, signed in 1373 is still in existence.

@rafinmd  Roy, thank you for providing the maps.  Rich @richwmn I hope you get your internet back soon.

    @MISTER 67  I hope you don't experience any flooding.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I hope you can make it to Miami and on to Jacksonville today.  Safe travels.

@aliaschief  Bruce, enjoy the realities of being back in the real world.  😉

@cat shepard  Ann, I hope your area gets some rain, but not the downpours the southern part of the state is getting.

@dfish  Debbie, enjoy your visit with Sue's former SILs, and try to stay cool.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I've never had Cachaca or Falafel. Loving Day celebrates an important event in history. Good quote. I like the meal. I like Americano coffee, pass on the drink. Pass on the white wine. I haven't been to Santo Domingo. A bad day for Capone.

It's another lovely day, currently 80F and sunny, with low humidity. I had trouble falling asleep last night, I'm not sure why. Then I was up and dressed, packed the groceries for BFF, and took them to his house. Then off to his post-op check. Things are healing well, and he got changed from a splint to a walking boot, but still 3 more weeks of non-weightbearing. At least he can take it off to sleep and to shower. Then back to his house, where a friend brought over pizza and we all had a good chat. Now I'm home, and tired. I need a nap, but won't as it might affect tonight's sleep. Tomorrow I take him to see his PCP.

@catmando Happy Birthday! Prayers for Scottie's recovery.

@ottahand7 Sorry the urgent care couldn't do more for you.

@smitty34877 I'm glad Tana, her sister and you are feeling better today; sorry illness got to several of you.

@Cruzin Terri I'm sorry your cold is worse. Maybe take a decongestant for the flight? Safe trip home to you and Jim.

@mamaofami Congrats to the 3 graduates and prayers for safety for the two in Israel.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes. I'm glad you got a date for your nerve ablation.

@aliaschief Wonderful upcoming cruises you are planning.

@bennybear I'm glad water is flowing, even if there are strict restrictions. Scary about the tornado nearby. I hope you get the FCD fiasco straightened out.

@1ANGELCAT So hard on Shirl's family; she won't understand they're doing what's best for her.

@durangoscots It sounds like you're having a lot of nice work done on the condo.

@rafinmd I'm sorry they're making it difficult for the upcoming tests. It's good that your driver is flexible.

@kazu I hope today was a better day for you.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Vaneesa, that is good news than BFF is healing well, and is out of the splint and has a walking boot.

The Hotel tells me that they will be able to accommodate us if our flight is cancelled so I have taken care of that.

We are putting stuff in a small collapsible bag to take with us in case we get as far as Miami but can’t get to JAX.

    Good afternoon!

I am scheduled for nerve ablation on July 23rd at 7:30 am.  I took the early appointment because I can't eat or drink before the procedure.  Then Sue and I will go out to breakfast.  I'm glad it will get done before our Zuiderdam cruise at the end of August.  I have been wanting to hike the Jordan Pond Trail forever and I figure at my age, this is my last good chance.  With the nerve ablation done a month ahead of time, I should be in good shape.  I'll get two shots at it as the itinerary for the second week has changed and Bar Harbor is in and Portland is out.  I'm kind of sorry to see Portland go as I like that city.

It is getting toasty outside, but it is very comfortable here in the house.  We've been practicing pre-cooling of the house.  We open all the windows at night and let the cool air in.  Then we close them in the morning.  We also close and open shades and curtains strategically.  We can get a lot of solar heating in the house and we want to avoid that.  So far it is working.

@1ANGELCAT Poor Shirl.  She isn't going to understand no matter what you do.  She is reminding me of a friend who was suffering from dementia.  Her husband decided to move them from Ohio to St. Louis to be closer to their daughter.  He recognized that he was not going to be able to care for Eileen on his own.  She kept calling people in Ohio claiming she was coming back and asking them to check on her house and water and cut the lawn.  Poor thing.

Debbie, I'm glad you have an appointment, but I wish it is sooner.  At least, it's in time for you to be recovered and ready to hike on your cruise.

Work continues on the condo. It is good thing my downstairs neighbor is cruising Alaska right now... she would not be happy. The dogs are surprisingly stoic. Monty has retreated to his canvas carrier a couple of times but generally they are sleeping through everything. The living room is finished and I am starting to put things back into the curio cabinets. I am holding some items out for the thrift store. Found a couple of things I was wondering about. Now it sounds like the ceiling work is done (popcorn has been removed)  and they are starting to put up the crown molding. The dogs continue to snooze.

It is heating up outside so am closing up the house. I feel like I need a nap myself.

Good Afternoon, thanks for today’s daily fleet report.  Today was a rather calm work day.  The majority of the cyber event has been completed and things look good going forward.  Yesterday was an in office day and on the way to work the car in the left lane made sudden move into my lane.  I braked in time and saw the cause of the lane change, a tire was rolling down the left lane on 95.

Today I did something unexpected.  We booked a cruise to Bermuda for April.  Sadly it means we will stray from HAL but there is no air and HAL doesn’t go there anymore.  I used one of the box stores and gratuities are paid by them.
Today’s meal suggestion sounds good.  I’m making spaghetti tonight but hope to try the suggestion later.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Jake, I'm glad the cyber even has been completed and things are calmer at work. Congratulations on the Bermuda cruise.

I am less than impressed at this point with John's Hopkins.  My tests on Friday are on the opposite side of Baltimore from me.  I was called last week and told that I needed to be there at 9AM and would need to be driven there and back due to the sedation I would need, and I was expected to be released about 2PM.  A member of my church did indicate that she was willing to to that.

They called again this morning.  The arrival time is now 10:30AM, and I if my driver cannot do the return trip they have no other way to get me home.  They also changed the entrance will get to the appointment.  I still can have nothing to eat or drink after midnight tomorrow, so I definitely am not personally pleased with the prospect of the day.  The only good news is that my driver says she is ok with the change.

    Roy

Roy, I'm sorry they have changed the time and the location 0f the entrance.  I hope everything goes smoothly from this point on.

Concerning the gangster Al Capone:  My history recollection is that he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion, proving that you could be taxed even on illegal monetary gains.  I also remember that if you just wanted a regular cup of coffee on a ship, you asked for an Americano so you wouldn't get something fancy that you had to pay extra for.

  13. This morning we've gone from heavy overcast to sunny to cloudy to sunny and now partly sunny.  At least, the humidity is lower now.  Yes, it's spring in Texas.  I did find a few chores to occupy me for a bit this morning.  The freezer is a bit straighter, and I know what I have in there now.  I also took advantage of the sun and tackled a very dreaded chore, weeding our two flower beds.  There were not many weeds, but what was in one bed is an ongoing challenge.  The clover has invaded that bed, and it's almost impossible to get it all, so it continues to be a work in progress.

Good morning Dailyites from a rather bleak morning in Georgetown. Expecting thunderstorms soon.

Last night just as I was texting my friend to come for a visit, she pulled in the drive way. We are just connected somehow. The morning my car wouldn't start, she called and said "what's wrong?" We talked about her growing up in Costa Rica, going to Russia for college. She is an interesting lady. She also loves Oliver and he will be staying with her when we set sail in Sept.

I put together a pork chop concoction in the crock pot this morning. I'll make mashed potatoes and a salad with avocado. I'm trying to get Allen's weight turned around. We see doctor on July 2nd, and he told us Allen has to gain 1 pound, no weight loss, and to eat heartily. Please say a prayer for him.

Prayers to all on our care list. Hoping Tana, Terri, Jacqui, are feeling better. And to all on our lists: Blessings to you.

Joy, Allen is in my thoughts, and I hope you can help him gain weight.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I've never tried Cachaca, but would like to taste it.  I've had falafel and wasn't impressed, but maybe it was just that particular recipe.  Thanks for the explanation of Loving Day - I thought it was a day to be loving, not to appreciate the fact that bi-racial marriages were finally accepted.  Our son is in a bi-racial marriage; his wife is Japanese.

As I look out the windows this morning it appears to have rained overnight.  And listening to the radio, apparently I missed a lot of thunder and lightning ; when DH gets up, I'll have to ask him if he heard anything.  There's a possibility of thundershowers later this afternoon, so we'll just have to wait and see if they materialize.

@catmandowishing you a very Happy Birthday and many more to come!

@erewhonI'm happy to hear you've passed the 5 year mark - woo hoo!

@Vict0riannso glad you're getting an early surgery date.

@cunnorlI might have missed what kind of car you just purchased, but congrats!

This morning we're off to the Field House where DH will be enrolled (along with me as his support staff) in the cardiac rehab program.  They'll take his bp, pulse, etc., and will start walking the track with him for a few rounds.  Then they'll introduce the rowing machines and stationary bikes, as well as light weights that will be added into the program later.  Should take about an hour and we'll be done for today.  After that DH has coffee with his bandmates this afternoon and that's about all we have on our agenda.

I'd like to try the drink (will put it on the list for taste testing), will let others have the white wine - although I've had the Bota Box cabernet and liked it - and have never had a ground beef stir fry.  Dinner last night was so good and the portions were hugs, so DH and I will be having leftovers - his will be veal cutlets and I'll have lamb chops, both with lemon roast potatoes and we can enjoy them at the table on the deck tonight.  And wine.

    Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I had a taste of cachaca on my Amazon cruise (not bad) and I do like falafel but have not had it here in the States.  My parents weren't biracial in the strictest sense, my father is Mexican and my mother was of German/Russian descent.  When they married, my grandmother (my mother's mom) didn't speak to them until I was born 2 years later.  So I will gladly celebrate Loving Day.  I really like the quote; the stir fry looks good but I will pass on all the gastronomy today.  Never been to DR and Al Capone was such an interesting person.

Sure got my attention!  Presently it is 79F and we will get to blazing hot today and for the foreseeable future.  We will have some slight wind (10-15 mph) so that helps a little as well as the low humidity (~15%). 🤷‍♀️

Dental appt went well and as it was time for full xrays that was done; no problems were noticed and the yearly exam was fine.  Caught up with my dentist (she knows I cruise and I always get "where have you been" when I see her.  No progress or deterioration of the tooth we are watching but she will put in a referral for me to see a specialist to see if there is anything they can do to decrease the one deep pocket I have.  We have been working on this for - gosh, maybe 5 years.  Teeth cleaning goes by fast as I don't have that many teeth in my head!!  LOL!!

My rim is in so off to go get it installed.  I need to see about getting the "cardboard" thingy in the wheel well that was demolished during the incident.  And then maybe check about replacing the rear light covering that has a hole/crack in it.  I noticed it ~ a month or so ago and couldn't figure out how it happened.  Thought it was vandalism and I was totally ticked off.  Then I remember driving on the freeway and hearing a bang from the left side; I think a rock was thrown up and it hit my car there.  The position of the hole/crack didn't suggest it being hit by a car door or anything else.

    @erewhon Happy 5 year anniversary!!

Thoughts for all who need extra <<<<Hugs>>>> and cheers to those celebrating.  Have a great day!

Pennie, I hope the dentist can find a way to save the tooth.  After two years of trying to save one, the bone had receded to the point two teeth had to be pulled.  Instead of a bridge, I opted for implants with bone grafts.  That should help rebuild the bone, and the dentist said they should last 10 to 20 years.  Now, I just have to last that long to get my money's worth out of the implants. 😁

Good morning. Sunny, dry and will be hot today. Fortunately my ceiling fan was replaced yesterday and I slept well last night. I was exhausted since we decided to do the renovations and repairs that were past due. I unloaded two!!! large curio cabinets and now their is stuff stacked and spread everywhere. I am afraid to move around much as many items are fragile,  but will take this opportunity to really clean the interior of those cabinets and then sorting and packing up some of the stuff from the cabinets so that they can depart the scene to the thrift store or to rescue auction. Meanwhile the renovation work will continue ... finish up my bedroom and then moving on to the living room.... all with me still in residence and clambering over the debris. They hope to finish up tomorrow.

Sooo.... off to remove more out of the line of fire. More later. @Cruzin TerriSo sorry about your cold.... it is so miserable to have to travel when you don't feel well. Hope your trip home tomorrow is uneventful.

A couple of thoughts on Loving vs Virginia.  Sara and I were married in 1963, four years prior to the Supreme Court decision.  Being stationed on Taiwan, we had to get approval from the Navy Legal Officer.  He mentioned that our marriage would be illegal in certain states that had Navy bases, such as Virginia.  He said that the Navy would handle that by not sending us to one of those states and we were sent to California from Taiwan.  We also had to be counseled by the Chaplain, a Southern Baptist.  His statement was "You know, these kind of marriages don't last very long..."  Sixty one years later...

  14. Good morning from another cloudy day in central Texas.  I really don't have to look at the weather app to see that it is humid since the outside of the window is covered in condensation.  It is 74F which is also the dew point.  Our predicted high is 84F, and there is no rain in the forecast for today or tomorrow.  In fact, no rain is forecast until next Thursday, and we have several sunny days in the forecast with highs in the low to mid 90s.  There is not much on the agenda today, but I'm sure I'll find something to occupy my time.

Of the three interesting days, I'll celebrate Loving Day, and let Brazil celebrate Cachaça.  Someone can have my falafel.

We'll pass on the meal, the drink and the wine.  The meal might be good with beef other than ground beef.

We have not been to Santo Domingo, but to a beach day in the Dominican Republic on cruises in the late 1990s.  I don't even remember the which cruise line or the name of the beach.

An interesting day in 1931 when Al Capone was indicted,

@MISTER 67  Thanks for the interesting story about Al Capone.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I'm glad you got the ground work laid to get an injection if need.  I just hope you won't need it this summer.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope Tana is feeling better today, and that no one else got the stomach bug.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I hope you feel better tomorrow, and that your travel day goes more smoothly than the trip to Barbados.  Safe travels tomorrow.

@mamaofami  Carol, it sounds like a busy and interesting summer for your family.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope you get the approval for the nerve ablation and an appointment for it soon.

@aliaschief  Bruce, it looks like you have a busy travel schedule to look forward to.

Tomorrow is DH's birthday.  Since we are both working I told him I would take him out for breakfast.  He got to choose where, so off to First Watch after I walk the dog.

Got to see my dietician today, I do think that she is done with me.  She met me at the reception area, and she walked me to the scale.  You have lost weight she said.  I said "it must be the ice cream diet". " Very funny" she says, and i said, I'm not trying to be funny!  I explained that sometimes we are out and about at drs and we are too late for lunch by the time we get out, and too early to call it dinner, so we have a late dunch or early linner, and around 8, we need Ice Cream.

She took my scanner for my Libre Free Style and ran the most recent report,  Seems I can eat ice cream.  I just cant eat more than 12 chips with my guacamole.  And I can't eat fried shrimp.  And of course my blood sugar goes up with stress, so that happens a lot, and it goes down when I walk the dog.  Unless the Collard Greens starts stalking us.

Donna retired from her night time pool group.  She now plays with the seniors on Tuesday afternoons.  So I still have to walk the dog on Tuesdays, as she is scheduling her doctors appointments and other meetings on Tuesday mornings. But I no longer have to let the dog out at 9 on Tuesday nights.

She also has mentioned getting goats to "do"  her back yard, I have noticed several folks in the hood having the sheep over for "Munch" , and asked her why she didn't want the sheep, she said goats would eat the Ivy.  And we have English Ivy everywhere.  EVERYWHERE!  Go goats!

DH's baby brother had a stroke this past weekend.   Nobody wanted to tell Momma Norma, but I guess they couldn't not tell her forever, so Middle brother did, and Momma called today very  upset, and DH had to pretend it was the first he was hearing it.  But since he didnt ask when where, or where was he now, she aint dumb, she will figure it out that they kept it from her.

So even though DH isnt talking about it, please keep Scottie in your prayers.

Well, that's all the news thats not fit to print-

@ger_77A loving door, is an open door, your friends know where to go to see sunshine and hope. I have had two friends like that since I moved to Atlanta, however one had a stroke during childbirth, and became suicidal when her baby became an adult.  During one of her major funks her husband asked what did she want to do, and she said come see Annie.  Well he called and I said sure, but while they wanted to remember our past, due to it being in the past, I was not too sure how much I wanted to revisit my drinking days.  And I never heard from them again, and she never answered the phone and I tried many times to reach back out to her.

The other is my traveling friend.  But as you know she is deep into dementia and it worries her when someone just shows up.

I realize that my ability to have an open door changed when DH moved in with me, to keep hiding his secrets.

    I need to change that.

Annie, thank you for letting us know how your day went.  Overall, it sounds like you had a good report from the dietician.  Watching stress levels is never easy.  I hope the dietician isn't done with you.  I'm sorry your two friends cannot be there for you, but you have your Daily family.  Our doors are always open to you.

Sending positive thoughts for DH's brother that he has a full recovery.  I hope Momma Norma isn't too upset when she figures out she was not told about her son sooner.

Eye procedure update - no go (again) today due to the antibiotic I'm taking for the kidney stones - come back in 5 weeks. Had it not been for the antibiotic, allergies had cleared up enough she could have done the procedure, getting me to the halfway point - instead, we're still working on #2 of 4.

Drop the newest ointment, go back to the old ointment, continue the newest Rx drops (4x/day), continue the other drops (every 1-2 hours). Drop the cold compresses & resume warm compresses.

We have been to Kodiak a few times on the 14-day Alaska cruises.  We have taken the shuttle into town and on the last one in '23, Pat got a last-minute spot on a whale-watching tour someone on the roll call had organized.  He had a wonderful time, saw many whales bubble-feeding, etc., and came back very happy (but tired).  But the town itself is very nice and the little harbour is full of sea lions and sea otters.

They also looked at and cleaned up Jim’’s arm wound.  However, that expense was covered by the hotel.  I was given instructions how to clean and dress the wounds and urged to make sure that he gets medical care at home,

Lenda, I think you are the winner of the most port calls to Kodiak! We stopped there on the Westerdam in April 2019 on the Yokohama to Vancouver spring reposition.  It was sunny and cold, but we were happy to go ashore, ride the school bus, walk across the bridge to the park and tour the little town with a nice welcome center and library.  I looked at doing the Alaska Marine Highway/Ferry long before I did go to Alaska on the Zaandam in 2007.  I'm sure it was a great experience.  Thanks for your regular posts on the Daily.

We managed most of the visits by doing two to four 14-day cruises b2b. That got us out of the Texas heat, and also gave us a fighting chance for good weather in each port at least once.  A few times, it was raining so hard we didn't get off the ship.  Instead, we sat in the Crow's Nest watching the very wet passengers returning to the ship.

Lenda, thank you so much -- very helpful as always.  Now that I've asked, I checked back on our itinerary and see that we will be in port 7am-3pm!!  That adds to the problems of renting a car. 😞 Unless a better ship tour comes up (unlikely) or a good private tour, we may just do the walking around town (and hope for decent weather) 😉  Thanks again!

Carolyn, there were times when all aboard was 2:30, and most those days, we just walked around town.  There is the The Kodiak History Museum (formerly the Baranov Museum), the National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and the Holy Reresection Orthodox Cathedral all within a block or two of each other.  Further away from downtown, there is always Wal-Mart.  You can also hire a taxi at the dock to take you to look for bears upstream from the highway bridge and/or to Fort Abercrombie.

Dixie, that is good news.  I hope the eye exam and consult goes well tomorrow.

    Good morning all!

Another cloudy morning, and a little wind too.  It's probably the wind that BFF said they had in Bellingham a couple days ago.  Only up to the mid 60's and a bit drizzly today.

I'll get outdoors today as usual, if we don't get too much drizzle.  I like Gerry's @ger_77 idea of counting our blessings to make life beautiful.  Since it's just DH and me in our home, we don't have a crowded nest.  But it made me think of the house down the street where they had 9 people living in the same size/floor plan that we have.  Three people have moved out, so now there's "only" 6 there.  Still a crowded nest IMO.

I like blueberry muffins but leave out the oatmeal please.  I like oatmeal in cookies sometimes, but not in muffins.  I'd like the wine and the drink, but always ask to leave the rim of salt off (kidneys).

We haven't been to Kodiak but it's on the itinerary for the 28-day Alaska we're taking next year.  Thank you Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser and Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the great photos!  We haven't decided yet what to do that day, either rent a car or just walk around.  The ship excursions are very few, sold out already, and extremely expensive.  Lenda do you remember how easy it was to rent a car there?  Did you have to go to an airport to get it?

Terry @smitty34877 I'm sorry to hear that Tana has a stomach bug and hope it's short-lived.

Jacqui @kazu I'm very sorry to hear that your friend has a clot in his lungs.  Prayers that the situation is resolved quickly.

Elizabeth @Haljo1935 Happy Birthday to your sister!  Both of my sisters' birthdays are in June too.  Growing up I always wished I had a summer birthday too (January here).

Carolyn, for many years we rented a car at a gift shop downtown next to Safeway.  The drawback was they didn't open early even when ships were in town, and sometimes not until way after the state opening time.  In 2018, after a CC group reserved all the cars the gift shop had, we rented a car at the airport.  They will usually pick you up and drop you off, but that day they were busy, so we took a taxi to the airport.  We were able to leave the car at the dock for them to pick up later.  There are several car rental companies at the airport, and IIRC, we rented from the one that says they try harder.  There is a lot to see in Kodiak, and renting a car let us see more without having to wait on people to get back to the bus.  If you have any more questions, just ask or email me at mscyrstal70 at gmail dot com.

  21. Good morning again.  I was surprised when I went to the store to find that it was foggy in town.  Here it's just dreary and very cloudy.  Naturally, they did not the one thing that DH had requested, radishes.  I've never seen a store that didn't have radishes, and there wasn't an empty spot where they should have been.

Good morning Dailyites. It's 71 rising to 88 with chance of rain later.

We had a pool party last night for our neighborhood. Beautiful evening. I couldn't go in the water, but sat poolside and enjoyed the conversations. MSH sat in a guy circle and had a nice chat with them too.

This morning my sweet helper will be over to clean. I just have a few chores and I'm free as a bird.

I won't be making muffins for dinner, but I appreciate the recipe.

Our neighbor is on the mend from surgery. Her daughter is driving down and taking her for doctor check up.

I have a card ready to take over to another neighbor who's sweet dog crossed the rainbow bridge.

Prayers for all our Daily friends. Lifting blessings to each of you.

Joy, that is good news about your neighbor being on the mend after her surgery, and that her daughter is coming to help.

To JazzyV - you do a wonderful job keeping track of our comings and goings. Thank you.  Surprised to see my Friday trip listed today.  But first have to get through two doctors visits for DH. Fingers crossed.  Assuming all is well DD will be here to stay with her Dad.

Weather here is very moderate.  I have been trying to walk more so I am glad the temperatures are cooperating.

Best wishes and have a great day.  Katherine

Katherine, I hope all goes well at your DH's doctors' visits.

Great collection of days!  There is a lot of truth with Asimov’s quote and I so agree with him.

Early morning start with Ivan’s monthly injection.  he’s gotten to be such a good dog about it all.  They are done in no time.  I do admit training treats are involved to reward him for getting on the scale and holding still for it and his shot and after 😉. No errands today as I never leave him after any shot.  he’s been fine but you just never know.

I’m going to try to do the last few planters today - legs permitting and do a bit of a clean up inside.  it takes a ridiculously long time with m y needed breaks.  ‘Sigh’.

Very concerned about a dear friend.  He went in for knee replacement surgery and to make a long story short, has ended up in the cardiac until after the surgery.  The thrombosis surgeon thinks a clot formed and has gone into his lungs 😞

Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, grief, pain, worries & those that need them 🙏 Cheers to those celebrating 🥂

Jacqui, I hope your friend gets better soon.  Blood clots in the lungs are very concerning  I think I've had many of those plants that don't want me to succeed.  Loved the flowers.

Good morning. It is cooler again with sunshine and temperatures in the seventies.

I will cheer all three days and love the quote. The muffins look good and I have not been to the port. We recently needed a handyman to remove a nest from the dryer vent.

@Mr. Boston, I am excited for you both as you move on to the next phase of your life. Enjoy!

@Haljo1935, I feel for you and remember how difficult it was to try to work when I really no longer could. The options for me were limited also and I eventually had to retire. I was 63 at the time so it was financially interesting. However it was the best thing for my health and I would do it again. Thinking if you today and sending hugs and prayers.

@marshhawk, Also sending prayers and hugs to you and Chuck. I await news on how the kittens and the indoor cats fare as well as the two of you.

Today is a bit stressful as Tana seems to have a stomach bug. I hope the rest of us can resist this but had to laugh earlier when we said “What else!” to each other. Oh well.

    Off to walk the dogs

Terry, I'm sorry Tana has a stomach bug, and I hope it's just one of those 24 hour ones.

Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!  Its 68 degrees sunny and it is expecting to get very hot this week, up to the upper 90's.  Our air is still not on, as we need to get the unit inspected, and the company we use will also change the filter under the house for us.  Its a huge filter and it gets changed twice a year.  They are supposed to come tomorrow.  I was supposed to cover the air conditioner during the winter, but we were cruising, and then I got ill, so it was not done.   We have fans, and I will put one out for the cats on the porch.

I have a zillion things to do this morning, and even though Donna is off, she still wants me to walk the dog.

DH is having nerve problems, it feels to him that his eye is running all the time, but it is not.  So he rubs, and rubs, which he should not do, then wants me to put in drops, then freaks out with the drops. I keep explaining to him that his eye is not running, and he says I'm lying, so yesterday when we were at the docs he asked the doc to verify, and the Dr. told him it was not running, that it was from nerve damage, and told him the same thing I do, "be smarter than the nerve" and then he doubled up the nerve medicine, that DH was taking incorrectly because he hadnt read the directions, nor did he tell me that he was on another medicine.

Doc gave him a different material to cover the hole, and told him that this is due to the radiation, and that surgery will not be an option.  Dh doesn't listen and when a surgeons office called last night, he scheduled an appointment.  ARGHHH!

We did head to Kodiak, bucket list for both BFF and I, but a typhoon hit, and we couldnt get in to port. May of 2023.

I love blueberry muffins, with extra extra blueberries.

Well, I love you all, and i hope to be back today, but as of right now, I am off and running.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'd love to get outdoors today, more than just running from the car to the house.   I think we can all make life beautiful by counting our blessings.  We don't have a crowded nest, it's just the two of us and Sochi, and has been for many years.

Well after yesterday's day-long rain, it finally stopped some time during the night and this morning we have fog.  Most unusual for this area, but understandable after all the rain.  It will be interesting to see if in 3 months from today we have more rain (old wives tale).  Like @puppycanducruise, it's cool here (8C, 46F), so going out this morning will require a jacket - it's supposed to get up to 24 (75) which should be a nice respite from the chilly cold we've been experiencing.

@Vict0riannsending prayers for you and your medical team today.

@Haljo1935wishing your DS a very Happy Birthday!

@Mr. Bostonhow exciting, going ahead with the sale and move into your new home!

@kazuI'm sorry to hear about your dear friend; prayers that everything will turn out alright for him.

Yesterday didn't turn out as we'd thought - in the middle of the afternoon the doorbell rang and there was our dear friend, Ollie, in tears.  She said she just felt so alone and needed to be with people, so she came over.  We sat around a while just talking through things, and I knew she'd have to stay for dinner with us, as she wasn't in any frame of mind to make anything for herself.  I asked if she was at a restaurant what she'd want to order and she said "shrimp scampi", so instead of DH and I eating leftover stew, I put together a reasonable facsimile, my  lemon garlic shrimp pasta dish and the 3 of us enjoyed it at the kitchen table.  During dinner we had a phone call from our Ukrainian family who asked if they could drop in for a visit, so about an hour later all 6 of us were together in the living room, enjoying tea and a delicious cake they'd brought from a specialty store that they said reminded them so much of home.  It makes us feel good knowing that people are comfortable just showing up at the door or inviting themselves over, and they know they'll be welcome.  I guess we're doing something right.

This morning we'll do a run over to the Salvation Army store to drop off a bunch of things (cleared out a cupboard downstairs. . . who needs 3 toasters???).  Last night after our guests departed, we had a call from our friend Wayne who wants to take us out to dinner as a thank you for the concert tickets (which DH still doesn't know I gave them), so instead of dinner at home, we'll be enjoying the company of Wayne & Fran and good Greek food at a restaurant across town.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in turmoil.  Cheers to all with celebrations happening today.

    Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

    Gerry

Gerry, your friends feel free to drop in or invite themselves because you and your DH are such caring and welcoming people.

In 2012, as usual, we rented a car.  This time we were in port long enough to drive out of town to the Pacific Spaceport Complex.  On the way back to town, we drove to Chiniak where we found an inn and café at the end of the road.

I found this explanation of the spaceport on line, and this is how it looked when I copied it.  The Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska (PSCA) on Kodiak Island provides responsive, flexible, and low-cost access to space for small- and light-lift vertical rockets and stratospheric balloons.  PSCA has been launching rockets since 1998 and was the first FAA-licensed spaceport not co-located on a federal range.  h

  23. We have been to Kodiak 14 times, and all but two of those were on BHBS.  Our first time was in 1992, pre-digital, when we put our motorhome on the Tustemena, one of the fleet of the Alaska Marine Highway, for an overnight trip to Kodiak.  The motorhome fare cost way more than the fares for both of us and our DDs, and a room for four with a bath.  Since our first dachshund, Brandy, was with us, we had to take the motorhome for her to stay in.  Also, on the return trip, we left the Trusty Tusty in Seward.  We were only in Kodiak one night due to the ferry schedule, but we packed a lot of sightseeing into that day.

We did the 14-day out of Seattle 12 times by doing b2b2bs in 2010 and 2012 on Amsterdam, 2015 on Statendam and 2018 on Zaandam.  Also in 2018, we stopped in Kodiak on Coral Princess on the Circle the Northern Pacific cruise.  We have had great weather on several of the stops, cloudy, misty weather on other stops, and pouring rain on a few stops.  When it was pouring rain, we just stayed on the ship and watch the people trying to stay dry waiting for their tours.

On December 5, 2012, while we were on Koningsdam, this is what I posted about Kodiak.

I found a few different pictures of Kodiak on DH's tablet.  They are from our various trips except the one in 1992 in the pre-digital age.

@rafinmd, Roy, this first picture is for you.  I didn't find a good picture of the Tustemena in Kodiak, but this was her sailing out of Homer, bound for Kodiak.  I guess that counts.  For those who have never sailed on her or seen her, the tall structure near the stern is how vehicles are loaded on the ferry.  You drive onto the platform between the uprights, and are then lowered to the parking deck.  Once on that deck, a turntable rotates the vehicle so it can be driven to its parking spot.
