  1. There is a Best Western Plus and an Extended Stay America right by the airport. Other options would be in Lake Mary about 15 minutes drive. As mentioned Sanford/Orlando is a 60 mile drive to PC along a two lane road through rural Fla. for about 35 miles then I-95 to Rte 528 another 25 miles to PC. I also lived 15 minutes from Sanford, flew in and out many times. Nice small airport but it's not a convenient airport. Transportation will cost you a few bucks. If the flight to Sanford offsets the high transportation cost I would do it. Otherwise I would fly into MCO. Have a great cruise.
  2. Have been on two super Bowl cruises. Both on a Conquest ship, the Glory. The first was before the lido deck large screen. Watched in the sports bar, quite crowded . The second was with the outside big screen, was nice and relaxing watching the game. Probably will be on in the sports bar, the casino, and maybe in your cabin.
  3. Sailin_Pirate, sorry to blow your theory. Sailing Carnival for almost 20 years and not one casino offer. I don't gamble and my wife does very little, maybe $100.00 a cruise
  4. When you check in for dinner on the hub, select the choice that will seat you with others. You can also request the same wait staff by telling the hostess at the reception desk. On embarkation day go to the MDR around 12:30 to 1:00 and you can request a change of dining to early.I have never heard of a solo table at any dining time.
  5. Noon should be fine. I try to book my flights 1:00pm or later.
  6. Unless it's designated a Journeys cruise there most likely be very few or non at all. We were planning our bucket list transatlantic cruise and land vacation from London on the Jubilee but it got cancelled. A bummer. We also got Mardi Gras first two US sailings cancelled. Looks like the cruise gods don't want us to try the excel class ship. As for the smaller ships they are our favorite, sailed quite a few including 3 times on the Miracle with another coming up this April. .
  7. Any time any day right up to check in. If it's assigned at check in just drop your luggage off with a porter, advise him you have a TBA cabin he will look up your cabin and attach the appropriate luggage tag to your luggage. Most likely you will receive assignment about a month out. About four years we were notified by a new invoice in e-mail, don't know how it's done now.
  8. I would not take the chance. Have you checked into the expedited passport renewal? A birth certificate and drivers license will do.
  9. Probably will arrive before well before 9am, but don't expect to disembark early that morning. Debarkation is based on how long it takes customs to clear the ship. Plan on being off the ship at 9am and you won't go wrong. Plan on a half hour to LGB and no less than an hour to LAX. We use a12:00pm flight time from Long Beach and no earlier than 1:00pm from LAX.e
  10. Carnival has recently enforced the check in times, prior each port did things differently, some let you board when you showed up.
  11. Would not chance it, not enough wiggle room for the slightest delay.
  12. Usually about 4 months out. Will start Jan 1st for a late April cruise. Wife is a last minute packer, sometimes waits til the night before we leave home.
  13. Never had this happen, seems you might have had a bad S&S card. The only obstacle we ever have had was the hallway doors closed. But you can just open them up and drop your luggage off.
  14. Good ideas. My first thought is the present platinum should be grandfathered into the new program. There are only a couple of platinum perks I like. They are the priority check in, the laundry, the access to cabin to drop off luggage and the Diamond and platinum window at guest relations. Even though the Diamond and platinum party is pretty much the same on each cruise, I like going sitting down and having a few drinks.
  15. I would not book a flight before 1:00pm Have stood in the TSA line many times that seemed like an eternity.
  16. We did a similar excursion a few years ago. The whale watching was spectacular. Saw whales in numerous spots, tail splashing, breaking the water and bubble feeding. The bear tour took us to Spaack ( forgive my spelling ).River. Went into the woods down a trail to the river where there were platforms to view the bears. It was the first week of Septembe so the sightings were scarce. A few were in the river with a couple of cubs. After awhile all went into the woods. But we did have a couple of bears cross the road in front of us and saw a big bear in a river close up. All in all a great excursion.
  17. Just across the bay you'll find Liqueur stores. Grab an Uber the driver will get you to one. We are staying at The Royal also, got a great rate for two nights in April. Has a good rating and beats the outrageous prices for the other hotels. As for corking fees, it's charged and not. You will have to wait till your at dinner to find out.
  18. Checked flights for this April, both Long Beach and LAX. The selection was horrible for LAX. Not one non stop and high prices. Found a reasonable price to LGB. We flew into and out of LGB last March and had no problems, all went smoothly.
  19. Yes, it's outrageous. We are heading out for a cruise in April. Found a great rate out of Ohare. Only draw back is there's so few non stops now that we have to transfer most of the time in Denver.
  20. Agree with the going straight to Long Beach. Don't sleep in LAX. Why begin your cruise with a long plane ride and then sleeping in an airport. Crash in a Long Beach hotel, wake up the next morning refreshed and ready for your cruise that's about15 minutes away. Have you thought of flying into Long Beach. Price can be high, but you can catch a good deal once is while. Small but very convenient airport. We are here in Illinois and have flown to SoCa on a few occasions.
