IIRC every intl flight we've taken in years has been on points. We pay every single thing we can on our Chase Sapphire Reserve. Our upcoming (July) flight (into Amsterdam and return from Stockholm) will be Polaris J business class. And it's so much easier with points. If you need to cancel you get your points back.

Why not other venues on the ship?

Exactly the same. That's how we operate at home also. And at least if we still have leftovers we can take them home for another meal. Honestly that's part of the reason we like DIY travel. Cooking in our airbnb-esque.

Just to clarify for me, are you saying that you couldn't even get close to what you wanted when "you're number came up" for booking online? I wouldn't like that but would try various workarounds. We're way down in a C cabin on Nautica that only has two specialties. And we also are just too dang old. Ah well, at least I'm warned. And, hey, one time on Marina we really wanted a second dinner at Jacques so we opted to share a 4-top. It was completely pleasant. And for us anyway it's about the food. Good luck.

I'm not a veteran O cruiser. COVID and Russia-Ukraine put a damper on our intl travel. BUT before we ever traveled on O countless people told me we could bring anything we wanted on...and we did. No problem whatsoever. BUT if you read the O website, not CC, it will say no. So they're not enforcing a policy. Their right and I don't worry about it. And if the day comes that they do enforce it - as some have said "treating us like children" - .......well, it will be fun to watch 🙂

Ooh, you've hit a hot spot with me. If I decide to boycott a company and I don't notify that company why then IMO I've accomplished nothing. My few thousand dollars won't even be noticed. Let me give an example. I started boycotting Walmart more than a few years ago. It's because of how they treat their employees and suppliers (I worked for one of those suppliers long ago) I met with the manager of one of the the local stores and wrote probably the CEO (too many years and my aging makes me unsure about that). I don't know if I accomplished anything but I sure as heck wouldn't have if I just walked out the door. Plus I can tell other people and that may affect them.

I don't know this for a fact but I believe I've read that Hurtigruten is getting most or all (?) of their ships ready to go anywhere.
