Is 14 days at sea too much? Or not enough?

I have no idea how you would do on a 14 day cruise. To some, that's not enough. To others, it's way too much. All I can say is, I've learned that 10 days is my limit on a ship. I love cruising, but I'm ready to get off come day 11.

What cruise are you looking at? Any ports?

 

I have taken a cruise that had close to 14 days at sea on one segment as two ports were cancelled as we sailed from Tokyo over to Canada and then on to Los Angeles. I have taken cruise of over 100 days that had around 50 sea days. But the longest consecutive time was around 11 sea days. And by the time you get to land both the passengers and the crew are more than ready for it.

 

But sea days are very special with lots of activities.

How many days is the entire cruise?

 

If you mean a 110 day world cruise, you have to have at least that many sea days to get from here to there.

 

If you mean a 14 day cruise to nowhere???? No way! I wouldn't dream of paying for such a ride around to no where.

Do you mean actual days at sea or do the days include some port calls?

 

I really enjoy fourteen day cruises, but all I have done do include port calls. However, the purely at sea days were fun too, but I love to sit and read for hours with a good book. That might bore others to death.

 

Hubby gets really restless on the second in a row of sea days. One person's restful idle time is another person's major boredom. All the tirvia games, sexy leg contests, zipline trips, balcony egg drops and casino slot marathons in the world aren't enough to please restless souls like Hubby.

A westbound trans-Atlantic repositioning (my favorite) is typically 14 days or more - with a week or so of almost daily port calls and up to 8 continuous sea days. Obviously not for someone who gets antsy on a ship for more than a week - or who has a two day limit for consecutive sea days. I think that the 8 sea days is my limit, but certainly not a hardship.

I'm looking forward to when we retire and can take longer cruises. Up to now, the longest was 11 nights.

We have done 3 14 day cruises but they were all port intensive. I am not sure we would like a TA with so many sea days.

Do you mean a 14 day cruise or 14 days w/o a port call. If the latter, there is no way that I can imagine that you can make it tolerable besides doing a lot of drinking. After 2 or 3 days at sea, I am ready do jump overboard and swim to the nearest land. You could however bring lots of books on your Kindle so there is something to do on the sea days.

 

That said, lots of people love sea days. I have a friend who would be happy to do a cruise with 100% sea days.

Currently, 2 days in a row at sea is pushing my tolerance. I like ports. It's also pushing my wallet, since The Hubs likes the casino... and I end up getting sucked in there as well :eek:

Then again, we've never taken a cruise longer than 12 days total, and that was an exhausting Mediterranean itinerary, after which I was envious of the folks staying on for the TA. I would have welcomed a few sea days.

There will be optional activities offered by the ship.

There is a gym, library, spa.

There are lots of passengers willing to share their travel stories.

I love sea days.

Those sea days are nice. You will undoubtedly see a lot of views from the ship or nature and wildlife and I find with a lot of ports getting some sea days is nice as you can get tired from a lot of touring each day.

So not actually 14 days at sea. You have a 14 day cruise, which is different. The longest I've been on was an 11 nighter. Towards the end I was getting homesick, plus I was really getting tired of the food. The buffet breakfast was the same everyday, and I was REALLY missing authentic Asian food and real Sonora style tacos. First thing I ate when we got home was some tacos.:D I've found the 11 was too long, and 7 not long enough, maybe a 9 would fit us better.

My goodness, many of us thought you meant 14 days at sea (not mostly in ports). Tomorrow we are taking a cruise that has about 21 Sea Days (not including port days) and for us, that is not enough sea days. As to your cruise, Alaska is a wonderful place to visit and there is nothing not to like other then Diamonds International Signs/Stores. You will have a great time, and those few:cool: sea days will be a wonderful respite from all the ports.

A 14 day cruise I know I'm fine with. (in fact it'll be too short)

 

Our last cruise was 34 days (even it was too short) 20 at sea, but only 4 at a stretch. Next cruise is only a week (so I booked another a few weeks later, I'm hoping that helps).

With an Alaskan cruise use your days to rest. Those port intensive cruises where you need to be off the ship almost the entire time you are in port are exhausting. You are not going to be on the ship for longer than 2 days, I can assure you that if you don't spend your time assure you will regret your trip. BTW 14 days is not close to enough for an Alaskan cruise, you will not be bored.

Yes I wonder how I will feel when I'm older. That cruise was in 2014 at 34.

First cruise 13 nights.

Second cruise 9 nights - too short.

Third cruise 17 nights - getting better.

Fourth cruise 12 nights - have to make some sacrifices to catch up with family and friends occasionally. ;)

Next cruise - 21 nights :) :) :)
