qsuzi Posted June 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Would like some ideas of what kind of gift I could give my TA (or PCC) for his ongoing great service. Have given a money order in the past but considering other ideas not knowing what he likes (e.g., flowers, momento, food item, etc.).
BlueCollarCruiser Posted June 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Give him $10 OBC. That's all mine ever gets me.
Shorex Posted June 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2016 My TA actually gives us a gift for being good customers. :) Never thought about a gift going the other direction. It would be like giving a gift to my dentist for doing really great work - he does, and he is well compensated.

Have given a money order in the past but considering other ideas not knowing what he likes (e.g., flowers, momento, food item, etc.). Hi there I am sure that what he would be most happy with just your continued patronage. (after all you are contributing to paying his salary) You could also let him know how you have been telling all your friends about his great service. If you want to give him a raise just go on more vacations. :)

VennDiagram Posted June 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) We have made donations to charities in the names of people we want to thank, in an arms length kind of way. So there's no hint of any kind of impropriety, you know? This would be a donation to a charity that we know means something to them. We request that the charity notify the person. And thank-you notes, that specifically request they show the note to their supervisor or manager. Just did one of those yesterday. cb at sea Posted June 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2016 You are HIRING them...no gifts are needed. I know you appreciate what they do for you, but they are NOT doing it "for free"...they are your employee..... A referral is the best thing you can do for them! notentirelynormal Posted June 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 22, 2016 I thought you didn't tip professionals. Well, I think most of us would never consider doing such a thing. BUT you have to give the OP credit where credit is due. He did come up with an unusual question about tipping. Now, since this is a tipping thread, we just need to wait for a particular CC member to tell us what he would give the TA (because I'm sure he does and I'm sure they love it) and how the rest of us are wrong. Wrong I tell you! He will tell us without given any specifics so we will never know exactly what he really would give.
puerto penasco lady Posted June 22, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 22, 2016 I book several cruises a year and have referred my TA to all my friends. I don't send gifts to my Doctor or my Dentist or any other professionals who serve me. My TA always has a nice obc waiting for me in my cabin. And I am happy that she gets commissions every time I book and also when my friends book with her.
blizzardboy Posted June 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) Would like some ideas of what kind of gift I could give my TA (or PCC) for his ongoing great service. Have given a money order in the past but considering other ideas not knowing what he likes (e.g., flowers, momento, food item, etc.). Your PCC gets a cruise from HAL, but they pay for drinks, etc. I called Ships Services, after a casual question to my PCC regarding what cruise, and bought a Beverage Card to be delivered onboard with a gift card from us. I wouldn't mail it to HAL, but I've also sent a card with a HAL casino chip taped inside after asking for his home address "because I had something for him and I didn't want to send through HAL mail". My PCC jumps through hoops for us while knowing he's eventually going to transfer it to a TA. He more than earns a gift to show our appreciation. donaldsc Posted June 22, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 22, 2016 What is with all this tipping. Unlike the crew members who depend upon tips, the rest of these people are paid to do a job. Do you tip your car mechanic? Do you tip the handyman who does work on your house? Do you tip your doctor or dentist. We have way too much tipping in our American culture? Just my opinion but the rest of the world has it right and we have wrong. Don't get me wrong. I do tip where it is considered expected and where their salary is paid on the assumption that they will receive tips such as on a ship, at my barber or in a restaurant. But enough already. Untighten your sphincters, Scrooge and Sroogettes!! The OP asked for ideas, not your condemnation and ridicule for have a generous thought. I send one gift a year to my HAL PCC as a thank you for doing a great job. If I were leaving our bookings with him, which would make him more money, instead of transferring the bookings to our TA for their perks, I don't know if I would. Call it a gift, or a tip if you want. It's a personal decision.

In addition to referrals, it is also my practice to acknowledge a TA (PCC) who goes above and beyond in finding price reductions (for me we have multiple cruises booked and any time there is a promotion he checks automatically to see if they apply), resolving issues with the cruise line, etc. Have used many different TA's and he is the best! pris993 Posted June 24, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Would like some ideas of what kind of gift I could give my TA (or PCC) for his ongoing great service. Have given a money order in the past but considering other ideas not knowing what he likes (e.g., flowers, momento, food item, etc.). This is like tipping, some people do and some don't. We have used a variety of TAs over the past 30 years... usually working in small brick and morter Travel Agencies. Some of them went out of their way to get us good on board credits, upgrades as well. In response, we have taken them out to dinner, got a favorite perfume, costume jewelry, home made cookies at the holiday time, or something unique we found traveling. Let your imagination be your guide. By the way, I work part time in a doctor's office... doctor's are professionals. Many patients or their families bring the doctor's flowers, candy, wine often around the holiday time ... it is not uncommon for folks to express appreciation for a services provided. Jillbu Posted June 24, 2016 #24 Share Posted June 24, 2016 As a TA, the best gifts are : continued business, referrals and good reviews, both via a card or letter AND social media. So nice of you to think of your TA!
