Performance of CCL stock….

We purchased our 100 CCL shares 5 years ago at $29 per share & have recovered our initial investment in OBC. In addition the value has increased & I get quarterly dividends.

Being combinable with other types of OBC, it's been excellent for me. It's also worked for friends who made it an IRA investment & only sail Princess (only CCL they sail) once per year. We usually sail Princess several times per year so it's even better for us.

Here's a link to a Princess Shareholders OBC form with the details on this excellent program. The form isn't required but they've said it helps them to receive complete submissions & to quickly process our requests.

Sending requests after final payment meets this requirement:

"Shares certificate and brokerage statement should be dated no earlier than 3 months prior to cruise departure date".

If you are going to buy some now is the time. I bought at $48.70 last week pre-Brexit. Post Brexit they dropped to $43.68 but are now at $44.47. They were at $55.14 six months ago and there is no reason they won't go back to that over time.

We purchased ours several years ago and have it (and nothing else) in a Roth IRA. The quarterly dividends are reinvested. I have no plans to sell it, and within a Roth there is no RMD's to be concerned about. My kids can worry about the RMD when they inherit the Roth IRA.

While we didn't buy at a banging-low price, we bought for the OBC and the dividends have been reliable. We're getting our first $250 credit with our upcoming 14-day Baltic trip - I was thrilled since I hadn't remembered that the OBC was higher for longer cruises. Score!

I have had my 100 shares for enough years, bought at $27/share, for long enough that what I get in OBC has completely reimbursed my initial coat and then some.

I really don't care about the current price or the performance numbers or paltry amount of dividends on those 100 shares. After all, it's only 100 shares, not a major investment!

I bought it for the shareholder benefit and it continues to pay me well.

We do not own CCL stock. Actually, we know very little about stocks as we are invested in mutual funds. As we have just completed our 39th cruise, we are very much into cruising. We are enticed by the OBC offered by owning CCL stock. Is this, historically, a well performing stock? Would appreciate any information before making this purchase. Thanks so much…..

The responses you are reading in the thread are compelling. You can do the math. CCL currently pays approx 3% dividend along with the OBC that everone enjoys. That's a lot more than you can currently get at a bank.

You likely know this....one or more of your mutual funds may contain CCL stock. However, to claim the CCL shareholder credit your 100 (or more) shares must be 'owned' in an individual (or joint) brokerage account in your name(s).

Purchased the shares about 6 years ago (10/20/2010). The increase in value over that time, including reinvested dividends has been 21% (or around 3.5% per year. So as a stock investment it has been mediocre.

However, I purchased it for the OBC and during that time I have collected $3100 in stock OBC.

So together my total return has been 99.7% or around 16% per year, which has been pretty nice. What is even better is I control the OBC portion by how often I cruise.

I AM THE OP.

I want to thank all of you for your helpful information and advice. You allowed me to think about areas I hadn’t looked at. My husband and I will undoubtedly leave money on the table when we go to our reward; we planned our lives that way. I thought why not enjoy some of that now with the CCL OBC plan. So…I called Fidelity and now own 100 shares in my IRA. The cost was $44.05 per share with a onetime $7.95 service fee for the purchase/transaction.

Our first use will be next April on a 15 day PC cruise on the Coral. This will give us an additional $250 OBC.

Again…I appreciate all the time you took to help me with this….

Welcome new shareholders. With all the OBC, it has been a great investment for us

I agree with most of the posters experiences. I bought a few years ago at around $37 per share so have had a nice increase in those years. But bought it for the OBC and have recouped about $1200 so far. Looking forward to enough to recoup my initial investment as I continue to cruise.

The nicest thing is that it always covers our auto gratuities, with extra to have a few beverages (non alcohol types), finances some casino fun, as well as some purchases on board.

And as long as you hold it, only the small amount of annual dividends is reportable to the IRS!! Your OBC is a tax free benefit!! :D

We have more than recovered our acquisition cost of the shares through tax free OBC's. Never purchased it for price appreciation or dividends. We bought as we knew, God willing, that our tax free ROI (OBC's)based on our cruise plans would be the best investment we ever made. It has been. :D

Hi Judith -

Don't forget to tell Fidelity to reinvest the dividends so they will be tax-free as well. We were up to 132 shares when I had to take it out to move the account from the company fund to a different manager. It does grow pretty quickly.

I have been kicking this around in my head for months. FINALLY this morning, I bought it!!!! With 2-10 day cruises scheduled next year, it was time... ;)

And with a purchase price of $45 today, you got a good deal. It's going to take me a few more cruises since I paid a rather high price for the stock compared to today's rate.

Thank you LeeW for reminding me of this. It was on my list when I talked to the Fidelity representative and she listed the stock as reinvesting dividends, etc. with no tax liability until withdrawal. She also told me that at the time of mandatory withdrawal that monthly payments are taken from mutual funds first before stock holdings. I felt that I was in good hands. I have been with Fidelity for 25 years and have had consistent excellent service.

Bought 100 shares in 2008 @ $1900

So far stock value over $5300 plus another $3050 on OBC's..

Not bad for an investment of $1900 :D:D:D

I assume that you meant that the current value of the account is, $5300, and not that the return is $5300. The return would be in the $3100 range at todays price.

With that profit you could treat yourself to a jacket for formal nights now instead of just wearing a long sleeved shirt & tie that you claim only to wear.

Don't forget the dividends that this stock has been paying over those years of ownership. CCL has been a very good performing stock. [RCL has performed even better, but I have yet to find anyone who actually collected on their shareholder cruise benefit!]
