aussievc Posted August 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I'm wondering what happens to leftover or unused OBC? We have $300 per cabin during a promo/sale and were originally going to use towards drink packages until RC started their online sale so we purchased drink packages already for the lower price. Also, we have decided to do shore excursions privately since we're not impressed with the RC options.
njkruzer Posted August 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2016 If they are from RCI they're nonrefundable, so it's use it or lose it. You can use them for gratuities as well as anything else you purchase onboard.
Ourusualbeach Posted August 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2016 You can withdraw your non refundable OBC from the casino for a 5% fee. If you set up your Seapass card as a cash account the 5% fee is waived.

Coralc Posted August 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) I bought a very nice Citizen's eco drive watch. $160 :D Other than that one single cruise, we have NEVER had surplus OBC. Edit: And I had already priced the watch out on Amazon before we sailed. I printed off photos of a couple that I liked pre-cruise, and they had one of them onboard. Scootch Posted August 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2016 You could book your next cruise while on board and use $100/pp as down payment. Personally, I can always find ways to use OBC....i.e. jewelry, Starbucks, shore excursions, t-shirts, cologne, your fav bottle of alcohol, etc..... It must be paid using a credit card.
KMagz Posted August 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2016 You could book your next cruise while on board and use $100/pp as down payment. We tried this on Adventure this past July and the Loyalty Ambassador said we could not use OBC to fund it. We were surprised.

welshrich Posted August 22, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Very good tip. Thanks. We were recently on Navigator and had a lot left over due to booking 2 future cruises and thinking we would spend it onboard. We went to the Casino but their policy had changed, you now need to get chips at a table using your seapass card (5% charge) and then cash them in at a window. Hope this helps. ricklepickle Posted August 22, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Well, although the price is lower if you book the drink packages now, if you have no other expenses you can think of, you can always cancel now and purchase on the ship - which means RCI pays for the drinks, and you have no expenditures. I would use it for spa treatments, but that's me. We were once on an NCL ship and ended up with $1200 OBC between three rooms and four people. And we only had total 4 drinks the entire cruise. We ate in specialty restaurants nightly. We had one excursion for two. Two of us had spa treatments. And we spent a lot of money in the shops on board. We had most of the OBC because of some difficulties, so we didn't want to leave any. The 16 year old with us got an expensive belt. My mom even bought makeup at the DFS. And then, some gum and chocolate until we had 6 cents left. We actually had a great time spending!

PCWalton1 Posted August 23, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I hear all leftover OBC is put in a pool and used to fund underprivileged pinnacles. [emoji2] Sent from my Galaxy S7 Edge using Tapatalk
39august Posted August 23, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Better to pay a 5% fee at the casino to cash out than waste it on needless "stuff". Of course your daily gratuities will eat up a good portion of that OBC.

MrsPete Posted August 23, 2016 #24 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I'm with you on the idea of buying a package before you board -- if it's cheaper. However, the currencies aren't really equal. Paying ahead, you're using real money, actual money out of your own pocket ... whereas OBC is gifted-money, money only useful in one place. I'd consider buying the drink package with OBC, even if it is "more expensive".
cincicruisers Posted August 24, 2016 #25 Share Posted August 24, 2016 OBC are a terrible thing to waste. :D Photos, spa treatment, cash for casino play, (5% fee), specialty dining, shopping onboard, bingo, the list goes on. Have fun and enjoy your cruise.
