As the title states, I have a friend who just got back from a cruise on the Silhouette. She said she only saw DJ's set up in the different bars, and did not see any live musicians (jazz band, solo guitar, cover bands, etc.) like they usually have. She said she is sure there was at least one line band (probably in the atrium), she just didn't see bands as much as she is used to.

Is this a new trend with X? The move from more expensive live music to the cheaper option of DJs?

Edit: Sorry for the typo in the title. Silhouette*

I was just on the Silhouette last week, and there was plenty of live music, sometimes including dancing, in particular in the atrium but also by the pool. We also had some scheduled in Michael's Club.

Not a new policy been going on for a couple of years. Usually have house band DJs, not much else.

We were on the Silhouette a few weeks ago and there was plenty of live music. Ensemble Lounge had several live acts every night (a great guitar player, classical strings duo, a jazz group come to mind.) There was also a live band that played in the atrium for a set or two each evening, although I can't remember the name. So although it wasn't the same week as your friend, I'd be surprised if it wasn't there.

They do have fewer live music acts than they did a few years ago (no more a capella quartets, for instance) but there's certainly still live music. The orchestra members (orchestra backs up all the acts in the theater, unlike other lines that have recorded backup music) also play jazz in various venues and also play big band type music for dancing for an hour or so a day. There's a house band that plays poolside, in the lobby, and occasionally at other venues. There is usually a guitarist/singer who plays in Cafe al Bacio and other locales. And usually at least one other live music act around the ship--cynbar says a classical strings duo though I don't remember seeing that on my last cruise but we did have a folk/rock type guitar-and-singer duo. Plus of course the headliner acts in the main theater which include singers on several days of the cruise, and the Celebrity singers who perform in the house productions.

I sort of miss the a capella quartets roaming around singing, but there is definitely lots of live music and it's hard to believe that your friend didn't notice any of it! Maybe she spends most of her time in the casino or on her balcony? :)

I was on the Silhouette last week. There was widely available live music including the house orchestra, a classical string duo, a 4 piece jazz quartet from Argentina and a solo singer/guitarist.

This is good to know, thank you so much. Did they feature any live music in the passport bar, molecular bar, or martini bar?

Yes, there was always live music before and after dinner in the atrium on deck 3 right by the Passport Bar. We would hang out there and jump on the "dance floor" whenever we heard a song we liked. One night the Celebrity singers and dancers have a show on the atrium steps that is fabulous. At the end, everyone can join them on the "dance floor" and dance with them. They even dance in the elevators. The type of music varied - some nights it was ball room type, others it was oldies rock and we even heard some alternative rock.

The live acts rotated around the ship so that if you liked one venue you would get to see different acts. We saw live acts on the lawn, at the Sunset Bar, in the Ensemble Lounge, in the atrium, in the Sky Lounge, by the main pool, and of course in the Theater. The guitarist was excellent and we enjoyed listening to him but his music is a bit mellow at times when we wanted more upbeat.

We enjoyed the live music and the variety but really missed a classic rock type band that played more the music of the 70's & 80's. They did have a Beatles night.

Don't think I'd trust your friend for a review if they didn't notice the live music on the ship.

Did they feature any live music in the molecular bar, or martini bar? Did they music go past midnight?

No, there will not be any live music in the World Class Bar.

The Martini Bar is next to the atrium one deck above the live music. They do have a DJ playing in the Martini Bar sometimes on some of the ships.

I do not really know, but I suspect there might not be live music after midnight. Someone else will have to answer that part of your question.

The bottom line is your friends gave you some "bad information". Unless they actually said Celebrity does not have live music after Midnight, then they might be correct.

Enjoy your cruise.

There is music until "late" in the Sky Bar. Late has no defined time, best we can figure is if the bar is busy, people are drinking and dancing then they stay open. If it is 11.30 and the bar is empty then it will be closed by midnight.

The Molecular Bar has been replaced by the World Class Bar. It is in the shop area and no groups could play there.

I sailed on REFLECTION last month and there were at least 2 different musical acts that played in main foyer of deck 3.

I saw them alot......one was a solo guitarist and they also had a 4 piece band....singer, drummer, bass player and keyboards.

That was always live;p.....I think (I could be wrong of course) but I think most of the musical acts on a Caribbean sailing

are the same.....different bands of course but still in the main foyer area......I am surprised your friends didn't see any live

musicians.

Oh, I misread your original post......they did see music in the main foyer.....that has been in that area since the S class came into the

fleet.

I've been reviewing a lot of the Dailies from recent Eclipse cruises that were posted in reviews - and the live music that is offered in several venues on board at various times of the day is listed there. I was actually quite impressed with the variety of music groups and the different venues where they would play. I can't speak to the Silhouette - but I can't imagine that Celebrity would vary the experience between S-class ships sailing similar itineraries. The acts do play for about an hour to an hour and a half per set... perhaps your friend just had bad timing - or perhaps they had some of their performers cancel or get sick at the last minute. :o

If anyone is really interested in catching the live music performances, I suggest that they check the Dailies each morning and plan out a schedule for themselves. It's what I am planning to do on our upcoming cruise.

Wrong, you must have not been in the right places, music everywhere on recent Reflection cruise, the same as on past half dozen Celebrity cruises.

Whenever someone says "Wrong", I can't help but think they are mimicking Trump.

That being said, I am glad I posted this question here, as you have all put my mind at ease!
