I'm slightly confused about MC's drink policy.

Was on the Silhouette last year, & complimentary drinks, both alcoholic & non alcoholic were available throughout the day & evening.

I remember overhearing another passenger ask the bartender, "You mean I can sit here & drink scotch all day for free?"

And the bartender confirmed it.

Will be sailing on the Eclipse later this year, & have read that MC serves pre dinner drinks fro 5-8 pm.

No mention if complimentary water & soft drinks are available throughout the day, or if alcoholic beverages are available after 8 pm.

Have the rules changed?

Thanks in advance

The statement about pre dinner drinks has been confusing from the start of MC. I believe it is referring to the time before dinner where they serve little apps. The bar is open early in the morning through midnight and is complimentary. There are times when there is not a server on duty and you might have to look for someone for service.

It is amusing to see posts that sound as though Michael's Club is a very elegant venue.

Michael's Club - on any Celebrity ship - is an interior space (no windows). Except for tea time or a short time before dinner, it is usually empty. Would you really want to sit in a rather dark, usually empty, interior space and drink by yourself all day?

Michael's Club is nice but certainly not a major reason to book a suite. Suites generally come with the Premium beverage package. Enjoy those drinks at venues such as the Martini Bar or at the World Class Bar. The Passport Bar and Cellar Masters are also very enjoyable to have conversation and a drink. They have outside views, too.

We were in Michael's Club on the Silhouette and we could smell old smoke. I wonder if anyone else did. The staff is great and the chairs are comfortable. There are other places that are more picturesque for a drink on board.

For us, Michael's Club IS a reason to book a suite. It's really the only bar we went to the last two cruises (both on Silhouette). And yes, we had premium drink packages. We like it that much.

I find it amusing when people say that Luminae is special. After the 3rd dinner there we stopped going and ate in the MDR (select seating). If we HAD to eat in Luminae, we probably would think long and hard about booking a suite again.

We also love Michael's Club...we have found it on many cruises now to be a great venue to socialise pre and post dinner. Much as we like the ambiance of the venue, the comfortable chairs and the occasional entertainment it is the wonderful service and fantastic fellow guests we have met that have made it special for us. We will enjoy odd drinks in other venues (including our own balcony) but Michael's is invariably our choice pre and post dinner.

We also are not great Luminae fans...no issues at all with the ambiance or service but we do find its menu restrictive. We will usually dine once or twice per cruise there but generally prefer the Specialities

Michael's is generally quieter than the noisier bars elsewhere. I know some like the noise, but I prefer quiet. And it comes with a concierge who can take care of any problems.

As for Luminae, I can't imagine leaving that for select in the MDR. You do know that you can order from the MDR menu in Luminae, don't you? Luminae is a more restful, smaller atmosphere, and the service is better.

We have cruised 3 times now with access to MC. Our last cruise MC was great and somewhat busy. Met some really nice people. Suite guest went on private tours together. Others met in MC then went to Luminae together for dinner. In MC we met 2 couples from our area of the world. Others were from UK, New York, North Carolina and Florida.

As to Luminae. What was it that you did not like about Luminae? In Luminae you can order off of the MDR menu or the Luminae menu. So if it was not the food what was the reason not to dine in Luminae.

I'm sitting in Michaels Club on Infinity now and looking out the window (actually a sliding glass door). Whoever said that it's an interior space on any ship is incorrect.

I was thinking the same thing. We were docking in Manila Philippines. We went out that door to watch locals entertain us after docking. When we self disembarked in Shanghai China we used that door in MC to walk outside right down to exit the ship. With a exit machine used just for suite guest.

I remember that door on the M class...I actually prefer the M class Michael's Club, a much more regular space than on the S class.

Hope you are having a great cruise...only a month now until ours....

Smoking has never been allowed in Michael's Club on the newer ships. Michael's at one time was a Cigar venue on the older ships, now part of some other cruise line, but interior smoking has been forbidden for over a decade(?).

Now if the back door to Michaels were opened to the smoking venue outside on deck 5, you would be able to smell fresh smoke.

As to Luminae. What was it that you did not like about Luminae? In Luminae you can order off of the MDR menu or the Luminae menu. So if it was not the food what was the reason not to dine in Luminae.

The three nights we ate in Luminae we looked at both menus. The first night I ordered the fish from the L menu. It was nasty. It was not fresh and it was mushy. I sent it back and they brought me the pasta. I didn't like that either. So the next two times I ordered from the MDR menu. One other person ordered from the MDR menu all three times. The 3rd person ordered from L twice and MDR once. She liked what she had. I also have to add that ordering from the MRD menu seemed to be an inconvenience to the wait staff. They didn't encourage it, that's for sure. In fact, they were not at all friendly. If you're someone who doesn't look up and say thank you when they put something on the table for you then you'd like it there. Because they didn't look at you, either.

Other than the food... we found the service exceedingly slow, even after we said we preferred not to wait so long between courses.

It was quiet, that's for sure. Too quiet. Boringly quiet.

And this may seem picky... but not ONCE did any of our water glasses get refilled without having to ask. And we like ice in our water. Asking for it nearly got an eye roll from the waitress one night.

Overall, it was not an inviting place to eat a meal. We were uncomfortable and didn't want to eat there.

I will add that on the 2nd or 3rd night in a row that we ate in the MRD someone came to talk to us at our table to inquire as to why we were not choosing to eat at Luminae. It was an uncomfortable conversation to have there. I wish they contacted differently. Basically I said, look at our waiter... look at the guests beside us. They're all smiling and laughing and talking. They're having a good time. Our waiter here is exceptional (we had the same wait staff in Select every time). We haven't had to ask to have our water filled. He asked if we would be willing to come back one more time and I said no, not for dinner, but we would try breakfast. That was a bust for the same reasons and we never went back again.

Personally... I don't think the food was better at Luminae. I think it may have been "fancier". If you're into that sort of thing, then you may like it. The general atmosphere was depressing. Lots of couples dining and not talking. No interaction between passengers and wait staff... their method of not assigning one or two staff members to a table (they all take care of all the tables) seemed very impersonal to me and didn't work well, either.

Finally, the M'd was brand new. First ship, first assignment. She was way in over her head and only yessed us to death when we voiced our concerns.

Looking at booking a Celebrity suite for next January. We'll request Select dining and see what they say.

You are correct. The back door was opened when we were in there. I was not the only one to comment. That does make sense as the smoking area is on deck 5.

Even though they try and use just certain areas, smoke travels everywhere and is nasty. I guess MC on the Reflection is busy and jumping, as it caters to all those suites!:') So. it really depends on the type of ship, cruise, and how many have the beverage packages.

Happy to be able provide you some humor. We love Luminae and on our last two cruises we had unlimited speciality dining and we still dined in Luminae about half the time. That will probably really make you laugh.

We do share your positive experiences in the Michael's Club even though we had the premium drink package.

I do understand that the Luminae experience is not for everyone.
