Diamond vs. Diamond Plus

Recommended Posts

If you could use them in the dining room as well it would help.People are asking for a solution to lounge overcrowding and when i suggest a sensible one that would encourage people from overcrowding the lounges you put up objections ? Then everybody suddenly wants to save RC money.

Thank you for your suggestion. I would love Diamonds and PC get 5 drinks useable anywhere during cocktail hours.

Couldn't agree more. Whatever the lounge, IMHO, the concierge should have said something to the mom.

My/our situation: since retiring 3 years ago I have advanced to D++ (450points). I am not a big drinker -- if I have more than 2 drinks per cruise it is a lot. DH might have 2 a night. We also get free drinks in the casino so if the lounges disappeared we still would have free drinks -- until they change that program.

I like the lounges when I travel solo because there always seems to be someone I know. Nice place to chat.

As I said before, RC will do whatever it feels like and we all will either accept it or go to another line.

Good discussion/debate! Katherine

Yes yes. Thank you for the debate. Congrats on 450 pts. That is awesome. My baby brother made PC last April. They live VERY close to the port and my SIL works from the ship. They started with those $150pp insides (last minute offers) and now travel in Suites. They seem to get good upgrades. Recently upgraded to Star Class on Allure.

No, I'll draw the line on that. No one has the right to disrupt the lounge like that. It's not cute, it's not funny, it's just plain rude and even low key me would bring it to the attention of someone in charge.

What's more likely, the CL concierge doing something about your complaint or the MDR host stopping someone in shorts on formal night?

Ah well, I see where the bickering has been the last few days.

A note since someone mentioned that SL's are only on Oasis class. Liberty has one. And suite guests are not allowed in the DL unless they are Diamond or above. We have no idea who is a suite guest and who is D or D+ because we don't care. It's interesting to me how so many of you seem to know! I think a lot of assumptions are being made. However - We can always tell the P's because most sailings, they converge and take over an area in the SL. Just an observation - not a condemnation. ;)

I believe we covered Liberty during discussion of weather or not Indy will do the same. [emoji6]

So like the lifeguards were not added until a couple of kids drowned, they won't do anything until some kid has some real serious injury.

Tell you what, if I'm on the ship when that happens. Someone will address it. If the Concierge won't, I am willing to escalate.

Kid drowning is different. That is for the most part an accident.

If the kids are playing on their own, that is poor parenting.

If mom is playing with them and encouraging it, that is rude.

My quote of old fashion ideas was not really in reference to kids out of control but the general attitude of some and how they like to impose their ideas upon others. Either their way or the highway.

Many on here have a lot more experience with CL/DL/SL than I do. In my short year or so to frequent the CL, we have not seen any kids in the CL. We have seen several families with kids in the SL and those kids were well behaved.

Our experience with the CL is that typically their is a very loud couple or two of D+ comparing all their cruise points and other similar stories.

Giving Diamonds two more vouchers will not fly with Royal. That is revenue to them. If they are experimenting with drink packages, requiring both in cabin to have them if one chooses to do so, then I can't see them giving two more.

If someone uses 5 vouchers around the ship or crams themselves into an already crowded lounge and consumes 5 drinks doesn't it come out the same as far as RCI bottom line is concerned?

Actually, that is a good point. Only thing I can think of, in a crowded lounge, it would be more difficult to get a drink.

I've read some other posts on other cruise lines. Seems they are all reducing the experience somewhat. I still don't see Royal adding more perks to their loyalty program.

Why would suite guests have access to the DL if they are not Diamond level or above in C&A? The suite lounge is something that is attached to buying a cabin. The DL is part of the C&A program. We are talking two entirely different things.

Totally agree with that one. If suites guests that have not attained at least a DL C&A level are so worried about getting a seat in the CL or SL, why should they be allowed to go into the DL that they did not earn by paying for in loyalty to the line?

Now they are adding to the crowding the DL. :(

I agree.Sometimes we call in the DL at 5 pm for half an hour and pop back at 7.30 pm and the same people are sitting their and do till 8.30 pm so they obviously drink more than 5 drinks.

On our last cruise on Radiance, there were two families in suites in the CL that would come in with their "darling" children who

ran wild all the time. One day the kids came in later to join the Mommies, with bare feet, wet hair, and robes just to raid the happy-tisers. None of us wanted to sample any more of that food once they had their hands all over everything.

Sadly, the CL concierge said nothing to them. :o If I see that behavior again...I will speak to the CL ...as I should have

done then. :(

One solution nobody would want to see... Those 5 vouchers would also be used in the Diamond Lounge (CL wouldn't be an issue if the D+ were kicked out.). Other words want a drink, use a voucher.

Back in May 2016 on Allure they were testing requiring your card to be swiped with each drink.

How about RCL giving everyone a choice at 'check in'

4 drinks at any and all venues outside of loyalty lounges w/ no entry to lounges

or

3 drink max at any and all loyalty lounges but not be used at outside venues.

RCL offers a choice... you as the loyal cruiser make your selection.

You do have a choice and you can currently choose both if you want. 3 drinks at any bar you choose, over a 3 1/2 hour period is generous. If you choose to drink more, go to the DL, or start in the DL and then still use your 3 vouchers after you move on.

People complained about crowding and the cruise line came up with a solution. Unfortunately, some people just want more and more and are never satisfied.

I wouldn't have a problem participating in the program Allure was doing. But just a swipe, I wouldn't want the burden of signing a slip

Agree, as long as it remained 100% paperless and if limits were imposed.

Added: Maybe also have the ability to purchase additional drinks with the old "Diamond Event" discount. *This is before my time as Diamond, have no clue how the event pricing worked.

No entry into lounges during happy hour or no entry at all?

Three drinks during happy hour is quite enough for me. I prefer the option to have them in the lounge or anywhere else on the ship that I choose.

Not saying they should or should not be allowed. I am just stating fact regarding a Gold card opened the DL. I checked on two cruises prior to SO obtained Diamond. I used her coattails for a bit but now I would be Diamond on my own with my pts.
