NMLady Posted November 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 10, 2017 hey guys n gals just wondering how much spending will we need on a 106 night world cruise You might want to ask this question in the World Cruise forum. Are you just including gifts, photos, souvenirs or also excursions? Food or drinks in port?
Rare Port Power Posted November 11, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2017 We are looking at buying christmas gifts having photos done at each port and having jolly good time Photos, drinks and anything you buy on the ship will go on your credit card, so you won't need actual money on the ship. Otherwise only you can tell how much you want to spend eating and drinking ashore, as well as purchasing gifts and souvenirs. Perhaps allow $100 per port day? After all, there are not ports every day, maybe less than half of the whole trip. Prepay private excursions or pay by card. Remember to have automatic payment in place for your credit card. paul929207 Posted November 11, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2017 You will find that in most ports, the ATM's will dispense funds in the local currency.

cb at sea Posted November 11, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 11, 2017 For 106 nights, I'm thinking a bundle! We take about $1500 for a week....not that we spend it all, but we always try to have more than what we need. I think you'll need to resort to ATM's when needed, rather than trying to bring enough cash for 1/3 of a year!

Rare Hlitner Posted November 11, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 11, 2017 It is an impossible question to answer properly, given the info you have posted. So much depends on your...so let me explain. Are you going to take cruise line excursions in all or most of the ports? This will greatly increase the cost of your cruise. Do you enjoy adult beverages? If so this can easily add $50-$100 a day (or more if you buy expensive wine) to your trip. And then there is shopping. Only you would have an idea how much you plan on spending on the cruise, to purchase items in ports and onboard. We know somebody who spent over $500,000 on a world cruise..just buying things in many of the ports. And then there are people (like my wife) who would likely spend less than $1000 shopping Personally we would budget at least $7000...but then we tend to avoid overpriced cruise line excursions and do things on our own. If you are the type cruiser who likes cruise line excursions (or pricey private tours) you would have to add another several thousand dollars just to cover the cost of the tours. Rare Keith1010 Posted November 11, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 11, 2017 hey guys n gals just wondering how much spending will we need on a 106 night world cruise Having taken a few world cruises this one varies considerably and big factors are excursions which over a 106 world cruise can add up to quite a bit depending on what you do. We made a budget for our first world cruise. List out all categories that you can think of: Salon (cuts, etc.) Spa (massages, etc.) Dry Cleaning/Pressing/Laundry Photographs Shore Excursions Additional Tips Lunch/Dinner in port Shopping on and off the ship Any out of pocket for Medical Wine or other paid beverages On Board Visas And the all catch Misc. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted November 11, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Spending money on a cruise falls into three categories: 1 - what you choose to spend onboard: drinks, the occasional speciality restaurant meal, casino or bingo, photos, spa and salon (haircuts etc), laundry (Sea Princess has laundrettes so $3 wash, $3 dry, $1.50 detergent or byo), the Sanctuary, onboard shopping, optional gratuities. If you've cruised before you should be able to get a fair idea of what these costs would be. 2. Excursions, visas, shuttle bus costs. You should be able to work out the first two but shuttle bus costs aren't always mention until you're onboard. Ask questions on the appropriate ports forums or on the Princess forum. 3. Onshore spending on port days - usually souvenirs, drinks, lunches. Can you resist buying expensive knickknacks? Are you a "foodie" who likes to experience local cuisine at a restaurant, or will a snack suffice for lunch? Then there is that Christmas shopping you mentioned. Typically I budget AU$125-150 per day on port days and that covers most things except Christmas shopping.
Rare Hlitner Posted November 11, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 11, 2017 If the OP wants to simply focus on cash, that is really not a problem in this day of the ATM machine :). However, we would strongly suggest having a back-up and perhaps a back-up to the back-up. For example, DW and I carry 3 different ATM/Debit cards....each of which is drawn against an account in a different bank. So if something happens to one or even two of those cards we still have an additional source of cash. And, in a worst case scenario if somehow all 3 of those cards ceased to function, the emergency back-up would be a cash advance (you can get this at any bank) from one of our major credit cards. To be honest, dealing with cash needs on a cruise (even a world cruise) is much easier then on long independent land trips. Once aboard the ship, credit and debit cards are locked securely in our safe (not always possible on land trips). And when we go ashore, we only take the cards we need...leaving the remainder (and back-ups) securely in the safe. A bigger concern for us is keeping our Passports totally secure...which can sometimes be a challenge. Hank

welove2cruise2014 Posted November 11, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Seems to me if one is planning or has booked a 106 night world cruise, they may already either have an idea of how much $ they would wish to set aside for spending. Also seems to me that if one is planning or has booked a 106 night world cruise, they may either a) be a little more active on a cruising forum or b) have a better grasp of using capital letters and punctuation. Or perhaps even both. This thread just seems odd to me. YMMV. Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app

Besides, it looks like the OP is from down under and perhaps the Vegemite went to their brain :). Just as an example of world cruise folks, we once had lunch with a lady...while on the HAL Grand Med cruise (62 days). She was traveling alone and told us it was only her 5th cruise. We later learned that her first 4 cruises were all full world cruises....and she decided to cut back to a mere 62 day. The personal logistics of preparing for a really long cruise (or long trip) can be daunting. When one takes a 7 day cruise it is often just a matter of packing light, turning off the lights, locking the door, and off to the ship. But when you are going away for a few months and traveling to multiple climates, continents, etc....its a challenge. Just dealing with the mail, bills, utilities, etc...can require lots of planning. And spending money is totally different then on short cruises. DW and I can take a 14 day Caribbean cruise with nearly no spending money (accept our onboard account). But when you start going to places in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. money can be an issue....not to mention dealing with the various currencies.
