matymil Posted December 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I was wondering if there is a significant advantage to getting off in Nassau and hitting an atm as opposed to the one in the casino? Thanks
Rare Essiesmom Posted December 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Don't plan on an ATM in a foreign country giving US$. Sometimes there may be an option as to currency desired, but I wouldn't count on it. EM
lcpagejr Posted December 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2017 There are banks on the islands which will disperse US cash... But realistically the fee differences will be minimal. It's 3% on the ship.... Won't be much lower at island banks
klfrodo Posted December 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2017 $6 ATM fee on the ship. Unknown what the fee might be to use the ATM in Nassau, but you’ll also encounter your banks International Transaction fee.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2017 In Nassau you can use USA currency. Keith
riffatsea Posted December 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 9, 2017 We have never needed to use an ATM on board the ship. They charge $6 per withdrawal. We bring enough cash for our needs. The same goes for being on shore. We either bring the currency used in our destination(of course not for all the islands in the Caribbean) or we use credit card or USA currency as needed. lcpagejr Posted December 9, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I'm thinking its 3%.... Unfortunately I withdrew twice from ship ATM Both times for $200 and I was charged $6 extra.... Previous posters could be right....but I'm pretty sure I read/saw the fee was 3% per transaction.
coevan Posted December 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2017 if you go to an official bank ATM like Scotia or First Bank widely used in the Caribbean and they offer U.S dollars.

We withdrew from the Scotia bank in Grand Turk and we had no charge. I use bank of America so I'm thinking maybe they are partnered with them or something. Thanks for the responses. I would bring more cash but I'm getting paid while on the ship:)
cb at sea Posted December 11, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2017 How about just bringing the cash you'll need? That way, you avoid ATM fees. There is a safe in the cabin to store your valuables.

The ATM on Glory was clearly marked $6 per withdrawal (plus of course whatever your financial institution charges).
winddawn Posted December 11, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Keep in mind the ATMs on ships can and do sometimes run out of cash.

The ATM on Glory was clearly marked $6 per withdrawal (plus of course whatever your financial institution charges). As a matter of fact....I did use the Casino ATM for my withdrawal. But as I stated earlier...its possible the transaction fee is $6 because both of my withdrawals were $200 each and doing the math $200 x .03 = $6 So I can't confirm either way!!! (LOL) Thx
kicia Posted December 14, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Don't use an ATM at all. Use the slot machine method to get cash out. It will be listed as a charge on your credit card and there is no fee.

(LOL) Thx I was referring more to getting the cash from the cashier's cage, the ATM's onboard should charge the same fee regardless of their location. As mentioned you can add money to your player bank on a slot machine, spin once, then cash out and turn the ticket in at the cage for no charge. Pity that I forgot that trick on our last cruise:o. SpaceCowboy9 Posted December 14, 2017 #16 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Cash is king - I bring all I need with me - and then you don't pay any fees or worry about ID theft.
Havingfun2010 Posted December 14, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 14, 2017 How much money do you need that you don't want to carry it! I bring the money I need, and if I buy something, I use a credit card. For those that are afraid of ID theft, why? It's all over the US, so the chance in another island is just the same. Credit cards protect you against theft, and if you handle them correctly, such as getting text alerts, email alerts etc. the odds are good you are safer than cash. And if it is comprised, you get a new number.
I Am Canadian, Eh Posted December 23, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 23, 2017 We withdrew from the Scotia bank in Grand Turk and we had no charge. I use bank of America so I'm thinking maybe they are partnered with them or something. Thanks for the responses. I would bring more cash but I'm getting paid while on the ship:) You're right - there is an ATM alliance that both Bank of America and Scotiabank are part of that allows customers to use each others machines for "free", but there may be a lower daily limit than you're used to, and it doesn't cover any fees if you normally pay per withdrawal, or you're only allowed x transactions per month. I'm a Scotiabank customer, and find it VERY handy for when a direct deposit comes in mid-cruise!
RWolver672 Posted December 23, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 23, 2017 For all of those that keep telling the OP to just bring more cash, they said that they were getting paid while on the ship. Thanks for the responses. I would bring more cash but I'm getting paid while on the ship:)
nealstuber Posted December 23, 2017 #20 Share Posted December 23, 2017 If you play the slots at all, just put the extra you need in to your player bank and cash out. No fees and pay later. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jdoc2010 Posted December 23, 2017 #21 Share Posted December 23, 2017 Go to the casino, set up a players account at the slot machine, charge the money you need to your account, then cash out and go to the cashier to pull your cash out. No fees. Sent from my SM-G950U using Forums mobile app
