rccampbell Posted April 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Just Curious.....I had asked this on another thread about something else, then decided to do a search, no luck so here I am.... If someone misbehaves so badly that they have to be removed from the ship, is the entire party/ cabin mates removed or just the perpetrator? I understand if it is a minor, the parents have to go and if it is the adults, the children can't stay on the ship, but what about the roommates, or spouses, etc.? Rare sparks1093 Posted April 25, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Just like anything else the facts and circumstances are going to dictate the result. If it is perceived by the cruise line that the roommate had anything to do with the conduct then they would likely be invited to leave also. Shorex Posted April 25, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Obviously, this drastic action is situation specific, depending on the totality of facts and circumstances. A decision would be made involving the captain, security, and corporate. Others in the party may be compelled to leave or not. I can imagine this conversation, "Sorry you're getting tossed off the ship, honey, but I'll be finishing the cruise. See you at home."
spookwife Posted April 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2018 entirely dependent on the circumstances.
beachbum53 Posted April 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2018 As others have already said, it depends on the circumstances. Several years ago, when the Carnival Paradise was a smoke free ship, Carnival was very serious about enforcing it. Anyone caught smoking would be taken off of the ship. On one particular cruise, a teen was caught smoking. He and his family were escorted off of the ship. I'm sure the family discussion that followed was not pleasant. From what I've seen (I work in maritime crime), it is most often just the perpetrator who is removed. Of course, this doesn't include the exceptions you gave ref kids, etc.

Roz Not hardly, I am a very much past middle age woman and have never even had a traffic ticket. My misbehaving days are long past over if I ever had any. Just curious based on things I had read about groups of people being put off.

Very often it's the "butter wouldn't melt in her mouth" type of goody-goody who decides, after a lifetime of playing by the rules, to cut loose after seeing what a great time all the rascals and hooligans seem to have. I think you need watching.

leaveitallbehind Posted April 25, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Well with the one occasion we witnessed, after a rather heated domestic argument, the husband who was quite out of control, was isolated in an empty inside stateroom with security at the door overnight and then escorted in handcuffs off the ship the next day in a port of call. His wife followed a few minutes behind with their luggage to join him in a waiting police van.
paul929207 Posted April 25, 2018 #13 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Each case is handled on its own merits. In many cases, another family member gets into a shouting match with the ship authorities and gets kicked off.

jlp20 Posted April 26, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 26, 2018 We can only remark on observations and what we read. There may be occurrences where only one person is ejected and there is no story. Point of interest, when someone is put off the boat for medical reasons, the accounts I have read show the healthy people from same cabin being put ashore. Rare mom says Posted April 26, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 26, 2018 Point of interest, when someone is put off the boat for medical reasons, the accounts I have read show the healthy people from same cabin being put ashore. Were they being put ashore (involuntarily)? Or were they choosing to accompany their spouse/cruise partner? Husband has a heart attack. Wife has a stroke. Boyfriend breaks a leg. And they're going to a foreign hospital and will need help getting home. What kind of person would stay on board in a situation like that? Totally different from someone ejected due to breaking the law or disorderly conduct. I can see situations where their partner would be angry enough at them to give them the one finger wave from the promenade deck as the offender was led away from the ship. Point of interest, when someone is put off the boat for medical reasons, the accounts I have read show the healthy people from same cabin being put ashore. Not always. I know of a family (Mom, Dad, 2 kids) on a cruise. One child develops appendicitis, and is taken off the ship, and mom accompanies child to hospital for surgery. Dad & other child continue cruise. Now, I will point out it was a Mexican Riviera cruise and the family was from Southern California. Child was put in hospital in Cabo San Lucas (final port stop for the cruise). If I recall correctly, Dad & other child continued to end of cruise, collected car, dropped child with grandparents, and Dad then went to Mexico to accompany wife and child home. paul929207 Posted April 26, 2018 #20 Share Posted April 26, 2018 A number of years ago (probably close to 15), my mother fell on a HAL cruise. She broke her hip, several ribs and her collarbone. She was taken off at the next port and transferred to a hospital in Rome. The woman she shared the cabin with was allowed to continue the cruise. Must have gone through the Panama Canal. The Mexican Riviera is generally from Cancun to Tulum (east side of Yucatan) and Cabo San Lucas is on the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula . I've always known the Mexican Riviera to be the west coast - Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, etc. I used to think of it as the "Love Boat" cruise. When did this change? navybankerteacher Posted April 26, 2018 #23 Share Posted April 26, 2018 ... Totally different from someone ejected due to breaking the law or disorderly conduct. I can see situations where their partner would be angry enough at them to give them the one finger wave from the promenade deck as the offender was led away from the ship. While the impulse would be understandable, I do not think it advisable to further annoy a partner capable of the kind of behavior warranting ejection. Many a trip back to her favorite restaurant to return her spoils so she could steal them again. I think in her head, she was getting her money's worth. ;)
