Absolutely miss and think about people we have met on prior cruises. We do try to keep in touch via FB. Also look forward to seeing some cruise friends who have been doing the same cruise as us for the past 4 years...its like a yearly reunion.

We have met 2 different couples on cruises that we have cruised with again. We also have been able to see them at different times to have dinner. One couple lives in another state than us and one couple lives a few hours from us. We also keep our friendships up on Facebook.

We met a couple that we enjoyed time with on our first Princess cruise, but not enough to plan a trip together. Since we don't get to cruise long or often, this isn't practical at this stage in life. I do wonder if anyone knows the whereabouts of cruise director staff member Maria who was on the Crown 2 years ago during the Alaska season. We had so much fun with her.

Thrax, I do believe your PE has made you more sentimental! ;)

Next month we'll be sailing with someone who lives fairly near us. We met her and her late husband on a cruise maybe eight years ago and have stayed in close touch ever since.

And we actually booked two Canal cruises - one full transit, one partial - largely because friends we'd met on other cruises were going to be aboard too. We did the partial with friends we've since visited in Colorado several times. On the full transit, we'd planned to join two other couples from the Bay Area who'd been on our trivia team on a Transatlantic but one couple suddenly moved to Orlando, leaving just four of us. The four of us went out to lunch last week. But we'll be staying with the other couple in Orlando in November before heading to FLL for a HAL cruise. Just today we phoned a lovely San Francisco woman who was on two of our cruises and on our trivia team both times, and I e-mailed yet another couple we met on a cruise last year. And in two weeks we'll be meeting up with a British couple we played trivia with on our other Transatlantic who will be visiting San Francisco; we visited them in Liverpool on the same overland trip we stayed with another English cruise friend.

So yeah, we've made lasting friends onboard a surprising number of times.

To answer your question, no.

Have we made friends and travel buddies on cruises?...... plenty. Have we cruised with people again and met up with them in our or their home state, country..... yes.

35 years ago our honeymoon cruise(1st cruise) was the beginning of some life long friends, another honeymoon couple. Many others have followed from both land and cruise vacations. CC has certainly nurtured and maintained(a roll call from 2006, thread is still around) many of these relationships.

In fact in 2009, I met a solo traveler on a general CC thread for Xpedition and we ended up meeting for the first time in Miami, and traveled to Peru on a land vacation.

On Princess ships, have never nurtured or desired to have relationships with staff. But, on X & RCI it is a total different atmosphere which has allowed us to become well acquainted with officers when on our sailings and beyond.

When traveling, most people are in my orbit for such a short time, If we meet or travel together again, wonderful. If not, memories fade and new friends are made on our next adventures.

One reason, I like to travel on a cruise or escorted tour is to met new and interesting people.....who give me ideas on new places to travel too....

I'm curious how that works.

Granted, on Princess I rarely see officers just hanging around. But on RCI and Celebrity do they spend a lot of time shmoozing with passengers rather than sailing the ship, or what? And what is this "totally different atmosphere," anyway? I've only been on X twice, never Royal. But in my innocence, I imagine the atmosphere on a Celebrity ship is more like a Princess cruise than the atmosphere on the Behemoth of the Seas. And, comes to that. why is a lowly cruise director or even a line dance teacher less deserving of your friendship than someone with epaulets on their snazzy uniform?

We have met such neat people on cruises. We have stayed in touch with many through letters, then emails before FB and visited their homes and they have come to see us. But FB has made it so easy to stay in touch. We have cruised many times with people we met on cruises and have several planned together. We also stay in touch with many crew members and have stayed at their homes around the world and been invited to many more. We also have met crew indifferent ports when we are on different ships and luckily are there the same day.

Wish we lived on either coast so it would be easier for them to visit us.

There are many people that I would have loved to stay in touch with but lost their information. One Thanksgiving (a week after our cruise) we received a call from man from England we first met on the shuttle bus to port and had a lovely three weeks together. He was charming, handsome, very well dressed solo and always had a group of woman hanging around him. He was so much fun. On the first formal night he asked the three girls who were following him if they wanted to meet the Captain. They all said yes and he walked up to the captain and introduced them. Later in our cabin, I said "I didn't know you were friends with the caption" and he said he wasn't but the girls thought so and were so impressed. But somehow I lost his contact information. I am still upset every time I think about not being able to see him again - BUT who knows - maybe we will meet up. He even was seeing two woman who were sharing a cabin. All hell broke out between the two ladies when they figured out they were seeing the same guy.

But there are a few people I hope I never run into again.

Best part of cruising is meeting and making new friends.

Great thread, Thrak

That's one of many reasons the Countess (dw) and I cruise. New friends,sights/scenery, stories, memories. Always make friends with our table mates and excursion buddies. The last is a shout out to Boston Mike my port of call golfin' buddy. luckiest guy in the world.

We have met so many people cruising. We do transatlantics and run into many people we have cruised with in the past. Most of our cruising buddies we met through our cruise critic roll calls.

We have made really close friendships. Visiting people all over the country. A lot of our cruises are planned with our cruise buddies and it is a very rare occasion that we cruise by ourselves.

It is also so nice seeing people on land and not having to wait for a cruise to visit.

Over the years, thanks to Cruise Critic, our cruising experience is so much enhanced because of our Cruise Critic family.

We try to get cabins all in a row so we can open our balconies and visit.

I’m going on 3 cruises this fall. I will be sailing with 10 people during these cruises (not all on all 3 cruises) and I met 9 of 10 of the people on cruises. Some of them I’ve known for over 15 years. I’ve been very lucky and blessed. I’ve had a great time.

Our first cruise, we met a group of people we still keep in contact with. I seem to find a couple every trip that I at least FB with.

Doing the same runs several times, because the port is so close, I find others who do the same. The itinerary doesn't matter, it's being on the ship.

And the wine parties, with rummy-gummies. Now there's a group that knows how to party!

We aren't really folks with a bazillion cruises like many here. We have actually only cruised 9 times so far and (unless we book a cruise next spring) won't hit Elite until very late next year (with 154 days). That means we haven't cruised with the same folks much. However, I find myself missing cruising with folks from our 28 day cruise last October. It was truly a great bunch of people whom I (we) would love to cruise with again.

We did meet up with one couple later as they fled the Canadian winter. They weren't even part of our huge roll call group but were dinner companions on the cruise. Freaking great folks. We met them for dinner as they passed through the area where we live. What a truly nice couple. We really enjoyed their company immensely on the ship and also on their way through our area.

Do you find yourself "missing" folks you cruised with before and wishing you could cruise with them again? While I can't really imagine anyone "missing" cruising with me I certainly find myself thinking back on what great folks we cruised with on that particular cruise. That was really a special group of people and we would both love to cruise with them again.

I also find myself wishing we could cruise with some of the crew members again. Some of them were truly outstanding and it would be great to cruise with them again. I do realize that, to them, we were likely just a couple of random cruisers out of the bazillion they see but they really stood out to me (us) and we would love to cruise with them again.

Sooooo... How about it. Do you find yourself missing former fellow cruisers and wishing you could cruise with them again?

Exchange phone numbers and or e-mail addresses

Do what we do and exchange email addresses with other passengers who have become cruise friends before leaving the ship!

We keep up with each other and have even had some who have stopped by to spend the night at our house on their way to/from driving to Florida. :D

We have many friends from cruising and have visited them and they visited us. One thing I do now is to create a business card for each cruise. It has our photos, cabin number and the cruise location/dates done nicely on it. I hand these out to everyone we meet that we would like to see more of on that cruise. Then I have some for near the end of the cruise with our contact info printed on the back side that I give those we would love to cruise with again.

On our 2020 T/P cruise from Sydney there will be a group of 14 that we have cruised with before so we will all get to catch up with each other again in a nice relaxed way. This is just from keeping in contact and recognizing their handles here on CC, of those who post here.

Makes cruising all the more fun and gives reasons to go to other cities and visit.

Thrak, I'd sail with you again!!! We had so much fun on our 28 day cruise! We do have friends that we sailed many years ago that we are in contact with on Facebook. One of them we have sailed with about four or five times, twice we found out just before we were sailing that we would all be onboard. On our long cruise we made several close friends that I am in contact with, and another couple that we will travel to Palm Springs this October to visit with them when they come down from Canada. As was mentioned before, many people have business cards that they pass out. I brought them home and put them into a special address book just for cruising. Guess what Dave is getting for Christmas? ;)

We have made some great friends over the last 10 years that we have been cruising. It is crazy how you can develop such a close friendship with people that you have just met and feel like you have known them for years. We have visited one couple and stayed with them. Also we have cruised with others again. We plan on visiting some others next year.

Someone mentioned crew. They can really make a cruise and we love seeing those that we have gotten to know. There is one server that we had for dinner and it had been 2 years since we had seen her and we were so happy to see her again. She did remember us and was almost taken aback at how much we appreciated her and took to time to talk to her.

Yes she is always remembered Tracey and little Amelia bear comes with me wherever I cruise now. By the way Ive knocked out Sun Princess recently . You may have seen my post been to Indonesia on that itinerary twice before . Instead ,going with Celebrity Summit Oct 2020 New England/Canada  and for the first time since my mother died in 2007, no Xmas/New Year cruise, its time to cross the bridge and stay on land.

I can't say that we "miss" them but we are always glad when we bump into (most of) them on a later cruise and can chin-wag.

Sometimes we do say to each other, often when I see a post on CC and read to Pauline, "I wonder if we will meet them again?"

I'm the OP for this thread. At the time I was posting about a certain couple we had met who are freaking great folks. Flash forward to our most recent cruise where we spent 3 days post-cruise with a different couple we had met at a later time on another cruise. Great folks. Not only did we spend 3 days with them in their home, we were able to introduce them to the couple I had originally posted about. Wowie Zowie!!! Two really great couples we met cruising and who we have now been able to introduce to each other. I really (really, really) hope they keep in touch with each other as both couples are truly nice people. It's really amazing what great folks you can meet when cruising.
