Just wondering if there is ever a need for a sweater or more on ship during December Caribbean cruise.

Yes (just back from a Southern Caribbean cruise.  It can get pretty chilly inside on the ship (a lot of people really like cold AC temps).

My wife takes care to pack a sweater or shawl. The dining room in particular can be cool.

Agreed.

Particularly noticeable when you first walk in, but mebbe not later - I'm one of the first to take off my tux on formal nights

I've not noticed it elsewhere on the ships - even late-nights out on a windy deck.

But if you've brought something to counter the chill in the dining rooms it'll do for there are well

Depends whether you tend to run warm or cold. I tend to run a little warm. Boston to SanJuan in November with 5 islands found me moving to dresses and sandals from the getgo. I did find a couple of nights, the MDR required a light silk scarf for bare shoulders. Not as cold as I anticipated from comments.

You should always pack a sweater or shawl anyway.

We find it varies greatly from trip to trip. I'm not sure who is in charge of the inside temperature, but sometimes it can be very cold. I feel when that is the case, it is set for the working employees (running around) and not for the relaxing passengers.

Inside the ship in public areas the a/c is often so cold -- like "hanging meat" cold! :classic_ohmy:

Best to take some sort of wrap!

I have after every cruise made a complaint about temperature for public location on the ship in the survey - really don't know why A/C is running at so low temperatures. I've always thought it was because if not from US that I feel the cold - glad to hear US people having the same feeling.😰

One simple thought to remember....rooms are kept cooler because the presence of bodies warms the ambient temperature, and thus the room needs to start cool AND that passengers can layer up to get warmer, but we don't want them stripping down even futher than they are already.

But hey....it's your vacation, so they should make the ship fit YOUR wishes.  Never mind those other thousands onboard.

We just returned from 2 weeks in the Caribbean on NCL Pearl.  The first couple of days, it was chilly enough on board in the a/c that I brought a cardigan or a pashmina to dinner.  Then I think they turned up the overall temperature (we couldn't even get our room a/c as cold anymore as we had in the first couple of days!) and I did not need my sweaters or shawls, in fact, I found it too warm inside most of the time, even in sleeveless dresses.  My elderly grandmother was quite freezing everywhere she went, indoors or out, so your mileage may vary!  The Casino was definitely the warmest public space on the ship (maybe due to the machines?).

I just remembered last January we did a Western Caribbean cruise and it was so cold inside that people were bringing blankets from their room to cover up.

Yes, I've seen that too!

Also, a couple of times when it was freezing cold in the MDR, waiters were bringing women tableclothes to wrap up in.  :classic_ohmy:
