Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted May 18, 2019 #77 Share Posted May 18, 2019 Though I do understand your frustration about the loud noise impeding your evening, it seems like that kinda comes with the territory of your stateroom category. The same could have happened from a pax party. Royal could have held the crew party late at night but respectfully chose to end it around normal pax bedtimes. I think it was nice of them to reward the crew. Princess has had a crew party in a lounge before. I’m sure the music went through to the staterooms above. Sure it’s not fun for the pax, but it’s 1 evening and makes a big difference for the hard working crew.
cjdixon4 Posted May 18, 2019 #78 Share Posted May 18, 2019 You selected a room facing the Boardwalk, so your expectations were excessive. A bit petty, don't you think? 🤔

ShillyShally Posted May 18, 2019 #84 Share Posted May 18, 2019 (edited) Sheesh, everything is subjective. We all have different tastes, preferences, likes, dislikes, etc. And that’s ok. I’m not surprised the OP hasn’t returned, and why would they? They’ve been chastised, painted in so many unflattering ways, the level of assumptions here is crazy! What if this had been told to you by a family member returning from their cruise? What about from a trusted friend? Would you have heard it differently or thought perhaps there was an issue? We don’t know, I have yet to see anyone else post and say “I was there too”, and I’m hoping some will once returned, it will help with data points. But who cares if they had young children, older parents, or just plain wanted a quiet night? No one needs to justify their feelings. Noise is so subjective, and again, I’m not saying compensation was deserved at all but if you were the manager in charge would you have heard the complaint and told the passenger to “Get over it”?! That’s simply not good customer service. I expect we wouldn’t have heard a word of this if when they called they were told “we’re sorry, I’m sure you didn’t expect this level of noise while our crew is celebrating, can we offer you a night cap in such and such venue?” Or whatever. I actually don’t think they should have ended the party early either, but perhaps they could have made the last hour quieter. And again, noise is subjective. A party won’t sound as loud to those attending but to someone next door not participating it may just be grating. Not everyone likes every genre of music, that can have impact. I love country, I know many who would call that torture by itself lol! I don’t think they should have posted about it, as most of us would have just rolled with it, nuisance or not, but for them they still felt not listened to, and thought to share, perhaps for validation, perhaps wondering if they overreacted, who knows? Yes we got their original post but at this point it feels like I’m back in college lit classes dissecting what an author meant, knowing full well most of us would not have the correct interpretation. Benefit of the doubt, anyone? Edited May 18, 2019 by ShillyShally

I know they work hard and the passengers work hard also and pay for that last night on the cruise. Many passengers have to get up early to get off the ship. I do not feel they deserve compensation but do feel they could have had that party in a different area. Just my two cents! No flames please, just an honest opinion! She's not complaining about the general noise associated with a Boardwalk cabin, she's complaining about a specific event that doesn't usually occur during the course of a normal cruise. Even if she had thoroughly researched the Boardwalk cabins, it's unlikely that she would have found any complaints about loud crew parties in the Boardwalk area. No one would dispute that the crew works very hard and is deserving of a reward but not at the detriment of paying passengers. They could have been given access to the Boardwalk area without the thumping loud music - or started the music earlier and ended it earlier. A bottle of wine or a free specialty dinner would be an appropriate response. They.Were.Working.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mayleeman Posted May 18, 2019 #88 Share Posted May 18, 2019 (edited) I like rewriting complaints in my mind to sound what I think is more reasonable, incorporating people's responses. And, so, I decided to actually try one: "We recently cruised on the Allure and ended up in a Boardwalk cabin due to a booking issue. The cruise was fine until the last night, when we were told there would be a crew party in the BW from 8 until 12. We wanted to get to sleep earlier than midnite, but the party was extremely loud when we got to our cabin at 9:30. We complained to GS about the noise and then had to go back again because they clearly didn't do anything--it still felt like a brush off. But the party ended early at 11, and one person hollered from the stage that it was over early because of a passenger complaint, so maybe they listened to the second one. "We get that it is fair for the crew to have a party, but we think that they could have at least tried to lower the noise volume earlier after our first complaint (and maybe not have needed to end the party). It was the last night, and we (like many others) needed to get up early to disembark. "1. Does anyone think it was horrible for us to complain about the really loud music preventing us from sleeping? "2. Has anyone else ever been disturbed by a crew party in a public venue? It seemed really weird to us." My boring writing style aside, @ShillyShally, would you agree that a post like this is much more likely to be received with open minds and to elicit thoughtful replies? The OP posted this on Friday, Talking About the crew Party Happening last night. The crew Party happened Thursday night The Allure is on a 7 night Sunday to Sunday sailing Friday was a sea day and nobody had to get up early to disembark or go on an excursion Do you really think they would have a crew Party on the last night of the cruise, when everybody is super busy OnBoard and luggage Needs to be collected all night in preparation for disembarkation? Rbullenut Posted May 18, 2019 #91 Share Posted May 18, 2019 (edited) 1. I sense bitterness in the OP's post from have the original cruise on Oasis being cancelled and being put in a boardwalk room. 2. I bet it was a fantastic cruise if the crew received 99% on their evaluation. 3. How hard would it have been to find another quiet location on the ship for a few hours? 4. I hope I never reach a point in life where I am as bitter as the OP. Edited May 18, 2019 by Rbullenut

I´ve said this earlier, but I will say it again. The noise is not the Point here. It´s the timeline given By the OP. It was a 4 hour Event (originally planned as such) and the Pax were informed beforehand. The disturbance for the OP in the end was a merely 1.5 Hours. Even at 2.5 Hours the OP would have been able to survive IMO. To answer your Question, if it had been a Family member or trusted friend I would have told them my opinion how they cut short a rare Event for the crew By unreasonably complaining. If I had been the Manager in charge (and I am faecd with customer complaints at my workplace) I would have told them I´m sorry they are Feeling disturbed By the crew Event, but it was a scheduled and announced Event. I would have also told them I´d look into the possibility of turning down the volume a bit and wished them a quiet night after the Party was over in 90 minutes. mayleeman Posted May 18, 2019 #94 Share Posted May 18, 2019 @123funcruiser Thanks for the correction. I had remembered reading "last night" and with others referring to "the" last night, I didn't think about what they really said. I guess if anyone wants, they can revise my complaint in their minds to edit out the end-of-cruise considerations!

A lot are questioning noise level, or saying they would have just sat on their balconies and enjoyed the show. Some are also harping on the OPs choice of words since yes, several implies more than 2 but less than many so not as short as 1.5 hours, but I think their upset was compounded by feeling like they were singled out, and likely the crew was only told a passenger or passengers complained, not specifically which cabin, but they, in that moment, probably felt like all eyes would be on them. I would have handled it similarly if I was the person intercepting the OPs complaint, as half all grievances can be resolved by letting someone feel like they've been heard, and we don't know what was said by either party because no 2 recollections are ever the same. As for family/friends I meant more that we'd all likely be a bit gentler in responding, though you have a point, some family I likely would have been blunter with 🙂
