Best times to cruise

Is there a best time to cruise out of Sydney to New Zealand. Would like to be able to avoid a lot of children

Peak Cruise Season is Oct-Arpil

 

school holidays are Dec and Jan,

Your choice of cruise company will have an influence on the number of children. From my experience even in non holiday times is that P&O and Carnival have more kids than Princess, and Princess is not usually totally devoid of kids.

Cruised NZ on Carnival and Princess once each during school summer break. Many kids but they weren't a problem. Fewer on Celebrity or RCI and they are so well catered for you don't notice them. HAL would have fewer kids than most.

I've no experience with P&O.

November, early December, mid February. Cheaper, less likely to hit school holidays.

If you stay out of the day care and the kiddy pools and stick to the bars, the kids shouldn't be a problem!😀

Princess usually has fewer than RCL. RCL has more children than most as it has more onboard range of activities for children than most others.

February and March. The weather is usually more settled then too.

IMO, January and February are the optimal time weather wise, as it is still school holidays in Jan, that leaves February. As mentioned, the cruise line, itinerary and ship are all factors which affect how many kids will be aboard and also how many you may even see. X, HAL and Princess will have considerably less kids than P&O, Carnival and Royal. However the kids clubs are also very good on all these ships, so you may not see that many in any case.
