I have seen that there could be port strikes October 1st. Looks like it will only effect cargo and not cruise. Anyone hear different? We are scheduled to sail September 30th.

They probably continue servicing cruise ships so they don't miss out on all those tips.

Not sure if the increase in numbers is due to the higher food costs people are dealing with, but I have to think that may contribute to it.  

 

That's so great of you and Susan to provide the packed food bags for the students in need.  Most of the children in my classes would stash some of the foods left over from breakfast in their desks.   

 

I would imagine the higher food costs more than likely has a lot to do with the increase of students families requesting the food bags that your Church provides and that you and Susan package for them.  You are good and generous people, Mark and Susan!❤️

I finished Harley Coben’s new book “Think Twice” which was good.  I read one of the very old Tom Clancy novels, and now I am partway through Lee Child’s new book “Safe Enough”. It is just a collection of his short stories.  I much prefer his longer “Reacher” novels.

I just read that Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta books will be made into a series for Amazon Prime, starring Nicole Kidman as Kay and Jamie Lee Curtis as her sister.  Anyone else who’s read these books think Jamie Lee would make a better Dr Scarpetta?  

Also, RIP Nelson DeMille, another of my favorite authors.  I may go back and re-read his books.

I read all of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta books years ago!  I definitely agree that Jamie Lee Curtis would make a much better Dr.  Scarpetta.

Our regular cruise friends are going and another couple with their 2 grandchildren. We are taking 3 days to drive to Orlando and will spend an extra night at Pop Century to rest up.  Sharon and I will not go to the parks but the others plan to go.

What would a post of mine be without mentioning that on the way through Oregon, I found some nice bottles.  WA has a crazy liquor tax (over 20%), so it was nice to pay MSRP for a change.

 I think you’re going to like that Frey Ranch Uncut.  I haven’t been able to get into the JD’s much.  I’ll have to try that Rye.  Eli is one of my go to’s.  Really any of them.

She's one of my favorites as well.  I read The Women, very powerful and amazing.  I also read The Great Alone by her but it would not have been my choice.  I read it only because it was the chosen book for my monthly (actually 5-week) book club. I find that some of the book club discussions are more enjoyable than the actual selections.

Sorry.I don’t know how to edit text on the IPad. That is too bad about Nelson DeMille. “The Charm School” is one of my favorite books. And the dialogue in all of his John Corey books always made me laugh out loud. 

 

I agree with you about “The Exchange” it was a snooze, and had nothing much to do with “The Firm”.

 

I enjoyed the Scarpetta novels for many years, until the character became so cynical and the characters so unlikeable. I have more recently preferred the forensic novels by Kathy Reichs and her Brennerman character. A Scarpetta series could be interesting, especially from her earlier novels. 

 

I am presently reading “A Calamity of Souls” by David Baldacci. It is interesting. As a child in Seattle in the 60’s, I watched some of the Civil Rights events on TV, but didn’t really understand them at the time.

We just started off with a cord. Hopefully it is not one of the really cold winters they experience here sometimes. If it is, we may be supplementing with the furnace, which uses propane. (Also expensive)
