The Mayflies have emerged from the lake.  They are everywhere.

One landed on my arm while I was getting ready to post that they are here.  Guess this one wanted to pose.

I guess he wanted his 15 minutes of fame since they have such short lifes.     I am sure he is now all the buzz with his buddies😁

If you really want to enjoy a vacation to the fullest,  consider getting your own personal driver.

Oh, this little cutie!  She can drive me any time!

Those Mayflies are gross!!  Are they always at the lake?  Like the green flies at the beaches?

We booked a Panama cruise this morning on the Beyond for March of 2024.🛳️

One of the ports it goes to is Cartagena.  I've been sponsoring a young lady, Yulieth, from Cartagena for several years now.  She will be 16 in August.  Years ago a Priest from Unbound came to our Church, hoping parishioners would sponsor either a child or a senior.  They had pictures with each child/senior with their birth dates and the Country they were from.  I saw that Yulieth was born on the same day as my cousin who had passed away from a tragic car accident while we were in our 20's, so I definitely was drawn to this little girl, who is growing into a lovely young lady.  These children come from such poverty.  She thanked me in her last letter that her mother was able to buy her medicine with the money.  Imagine, being thankful to be able to buy medicine, etc.

Anyway, my whole point in writing about Yulieth, is that I would love to meet her while in Port.  Probably pretty impossible, but one never knows, right??

@HBE4- A good number of years ago,my DH and I did not have to go to the Cape for a Kennedy sighting. We went to a Tennis Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Newport. Ted Kennedy was sitting nearby.

I was a bit more impressed to meet Jimmy Conors. My DH and I had seen him play at a number of US Opens both in Forest Hills and Flushing Meadows.

We had a chat while waiting for the elevator at our hotel after the ceremony.

As we went our separate ways,he commented to his wife that he was meeting such nice people in Newport !

Was going to ask about Hands, used to love wandering around that store.  Have also been to Quarter Deck, sad to see some of the changes.

There is a lot that has changed over the years some for the better some not so happy about.

He is one massive dude. Love this picture of Judge (6' 7", 280 lbs) standing next to Jose Altuva (5' 6", 165 lbs).

The back-and-forth battle of Jose Altuve, Aaron Judge

That's is one of the reason's it so tough to give him a huge contract for a long period of time like many other player's have received.

He has missed 156 games since 2017 because of injuries.

Across the water is Chappaquiddick. Ted visited there, too.

If she lives in Cartagena I can’t imagine why you couldn’t meet up.  We were there in May.  If you can still contact her set up a meeting for lunch or something.

Thank you!  I will definitely try to do just that!  We can write about 4 times per year.  We can no longer send mail.  It is strictly online now;  they have translators, and it takes well over a month before she or I receive the letters from each other.

Is Cartagena a small City?

Physical size not so much, population around a million, so that seems big to me.  If she lives in the city it is not going to be a challenge to meet.  Other than the whole communication thing.  That is always hard when both parties don’t speak the other language.  That said, lots of English speaking people there, I am sure she has a friend that speaks English.

I’m a tennis fan , also , and I’ve visited the Tennis Hall of Fame .  There weren’t any notable people there at the time.  My one impression of Jimmy Connors is that he was ill tempered on the court and betrayed a confidence of Chris Evert.  They were once engaged and he revealed something in his book that should have remained between the two of them .  Not a gentleman in my opinion. .

Hi Sue and Gary,  I loved your cruise photos.  Looks like you had warm sunny skies everyday.

And delicious food.

I did find the sculpture of the elephant to be unusual.   I wonder if there is a special meaning to have the elephant.

Did you get to meet Captain Kate and Bugs?

Thanks, weather was perfect

Not sure about any significance about the elephant, lots of sculpture and art around the ship ,made I think for the instergram generation

Captain Kate was pretty visible.  Saw her around the ship chatting to people . The first night she came on stage to welcome everyone. There were two meet the officers evenings for captains club and she gave a very interesting talk on the last day and kindly agreed to have her photo taken with Gary and I

Around here they come out as early as mid May through maybe some of July.   They will live in the lake 1 or 2 years but when they emerge from the lake they only live 1 to 3 days. At night they are attracted to light so they pile up around street lights.

I regret not asking to meet her when we were in penthouse last year, hopefully she will still be there in November when we next sail beyond.
