It was originally booked with Thomas Cooke and was transferred to P&O when they closed. 😉

I sympathise with your problem, however I have never really considered that TC are a suitable cruise travel agent, there are a few high street ones that might be OK, but in the main the best are online, and the best are cruise specialists.

But I understand you eventually found a feature on the website that enabled you to request a FCC for your deposit.

Frankly I think they are struggling to find the money to pay everyone back with having less staff to do it.

I really struggle to believe the staffing excuse, only because of the distinct lack of passengers receiving refunds.

If that is the case, they seem to be doing very little to address it and it will get a lot worse.

I believe a tactical decision has been made to hold on to money as long as possible, but hopefully we will start seeing the cheques arriving soon.

My thoughts on the staffing one is that in all business still open at any time a large percentage are not in the office due to virus symptoms or thoughts of virus symptoms.  In their normal business they would only have needed a small number of people to do refunds as refunds never used to happen that often.  I have no doubt they also had a protocol in place of who could sign off the refund.  They will have needed a new protocol and to train up people to do it.

I'm not making an excuse for them as frankly they should be doing this far quicker than they are.  Lack of information to customers is never good if you want customers to come back.

I wonder how much interest Carnival will get by hanging on to these refunds for 3 or 4 months. That could be one reason.

Interest rates are negligible, but even a tiny return on many hundreds of millions of pounds is worth having! It’s more to do with cash flow, the lifeblood of all businesses. Our money is currently paying their fixed and variable costs, of which there will still be many, with very little income coming in.

Ive just had a thought. As we know, there is no real benefit to customers of taking FCC (especially as the 25% extra seems to be mostly offset by higher prices) hence why so many of us have opted for refunds. Cash is King in these uncertain times etc. An awful lot of us have been quite vocal about this on this forum and doubtless it will have influenced the thinking of many others. FCC, however , is of major benefit to P&O as the cash is retained in the business. My thought is this. I wonder if P&O is quite happy to have hundreds of people sounding off about the complete lack of refunds across all Social Media channels, as this is surely going to persuade more people to opt for FCC (“better take that and make a new booking as they aren’t actually paying out refunds”)? Could this be a cunning master plan?

Do you think they have processed the refunds and on day 60 press a button  and voila, everyone will be refunded at the same time 😉😁

That would panic their bank manager.

Not if half of them are being done by snail mail and a cheque.  bloody nuisance for us. l We are 18 miles from the bank and there is no way IF I receive it, that I am putting it in the post.  I also have no paying in slips as it is an online account.

I think you might not be far from the truth with that. I said a while ago that it seems that the complete lack of refunds being processed (less than a handful that we know of, certainly not a steady flow) seems to point to a sudden deluge of refunds at the end of the period. All helps their cash flow, so a lot of sense in that for P&O. Never mind the impact of that on customers cash flow. That’s inconsequential!

If only the TSB would introduce this.  They have promised for months but after last years complete messup they seem to be running scared of touching online banking again.

I must admit  I seldom get cheques, but when I do, its invaluable service, as I too live miles from a bank.

I am rather enjoying all this gnashing of teeth and sabre rattling from everyone waiting for a refund. Glad I decided early to leave the money with P&O and put it against a future cruise, before the prices went up, although I think Iona winter cruises are about the same as they were before the pandemic hit.

Some banks have a limit on the amount you can pay in on line. I know HSBC have a limit of £500. Not much use if you have a whole cruise refunded.

It wasn't really a problem to be honest. We have used good on line cruise specialists, travel agents and sometimes booked ourselves depending on who was giving the best offer. We know what we want with a cruise and will book with exactly what we are looking for - dates, the exact cabin etc etc. In those situations it is just best to shop around.

In this situation re the cancelling of the cruise we are glad that we were with P&O direct as we had just ourselves to trust and rely on -- and our friends at CC to ask if needs be ;-)

Long may you be continue to be happy with that decision John and I’m being sincere in that wish because unlike you I don’t take joy in the problems others experience.

You are obviously in the position to be able to take an FCC, not every one is. So your enjoying that then?

Couldn’t get it all in on a screenshot not that clever but this was put on Face ache an hour ago. The couple of lines at the start say they cancelled in March and like everyone else got fed up of being fobbed of

That is my conclusion too.

Ours was March 20 Azura TA one of the first affected and nothing yet.

There is a maximum limit on scanning with your phone.  My bank is £500, so no way I can pay in a refund for a cruise.

Yes if you read social media there are lots of people out there who are in desperate need of their refunds because they have lost their job or been furloughed etc.

A “hardship panel” for people to get back their own money. Unbelievable.

Thanks for posting, appreciate the tip.

So we have to get on our hands and knees to beg for our money?

Absolutely disgusting.
