I missed Bergen. I went on an excursion outside of town and it was fun but it took up my entire time in Bergen. Would love to return. Especially seeing your pictures!

I think I just bought waffles in North Cape. I didn't buy any other food. Due to full day tours most days, I really didn't have an opportunity to either (so I wasn't avoiding it but didn't have a chance to see the prices either).

Our visits to Bergen was a DIY port and later we used a HoHo bus in Oslo . Stavenger and Alesund was a different story though .

We were a little late leaving the port as our port pilot had dinner on the ship and became ill . He was taken to the hospital and we had to wait awhile to locate another pilot .

We enjoyed our dinner on the balcony and watched a couple of ships sail away . We also had a good view of Mt. Floyen

Then came our turn to head out to Alesund . We saw a couple of neat houses that reminded us of sailing out of Stockholm

On our last visit to Alesund we met Diane and Larry on our Roll call on Cruise Critic. They wanted someone to share the cost of a car rental to Trollstigen. It was about 1/2 the price of the ship's excursion. We were some of the first off the ship and had a nice walk to the car rental.

IMG_4582-001_zps7a64a528.jpg

We drove East on 136 out of town. The sky looked like it may cloud over so we stopped at the view point at Aksla before the tour buses. The view was amazing !

IMG_4611-001_zps594da11e.jpg

It was so nice for Diane to drive and being an avid photographer, we could stop when the view moved us.

IMG_4698-001_zpsd0ecdb71.jpg

We were moved a lot to stop and breathe the clean air and the views.

Another stops on the way to Trollstigen

IMG_4712-001_zpsfc90d73f.jpg

Further along highway 63 we stopped at a waterfall with a viewing platform

As we drew closer to our goal the road became more crowded

IMG_4784-001_zps241940de.jpg

Another small waterfall that we couldn't resist

IMG_4798-001_zps9c9d71fb.jpg

We could sense an increase in elevation and a decrease in traffic

Alnesreset is the highest elevation in our journey

As we approached the viewing area we saw this small house

The waterfall cascades 300 meters. At the top of the picture you can see 4 houses. The viewing platform is a small brown spot at the base of the grey house on the left.

How many of the 11 hairpin turns can you count ?

Here are the four houses that we saw in the waterfall picture

The clouds seemed to be lifting as we were leaving

Here is a video clip of driving the turns and the waterfall

After leaving Trollstigen we continued South on 63 to Valldal . Turning on to 650 we went North and West until we reached 136 West to Alesund. We didn't stop for lunch and time begain to run out for our return. Just outside on Alesund we ran into grid lock at a traffic accident and there was no way to get through. It looked as though we would miss the boat. We finally got through after about 25 minutes. Diane decided to drop us off by the ship and we were going to try to stall the departure. As it turned out one of the ship's buses had not returned. We were in port from 9- 6 P.M. so if you drive , allow extra time for your return

I think I paid about $10 for fried fish fillet from a vendor in the fish market back in 2010.  Earlier in the day I had stopped in a McD's near the harbor and as I recall the price for a hamburger was between $5 and $10!  Can't remember where or what I had for lunch on the 2016 visit.  It was probably a quick lunch, if any, as I had an afternoon excursion to the home of composer Edward Grieg (one of my favorites).

At the bakery where we had the cinnamon roll we as customers had hoped to use the rest room but they had none . We hurried back to the ship where we had our first lunch . The fish and chips came later when we returned to town .
