I think I paid about $10 for fried fish fillet from a vendor in the fish market back in 2010.  Earlier in the day I had stopped in a McD's near the harbor and as I recall the price for a hamburger was between $5 and $10!  Can't remember where or what I had for lunch on the 2016 visit.  It was probably a quick lunch, if any, as I had an afternoon excursion to the home of composer Edward Grieg (one of my favorites).

When we went in 2018, they were 2nd on the Big Mac index or something like that (an index that takes McDonalds prices through out the world and compares what is the most expensive). Only in Switzerland were Big Macs more expensive than in Norway. I knew food was super expensive, I just didn't have the opportunity to buy food due to tours. We were warned of high prices in everything I read.

We stopped at the Ornesvigen viewpoint which is on the Eagle Road . Looking toward the village we could see a cruise ship but there was some glare as the sun was trying to come out .

We went through the village to several viewpoints . The first is called Fjordsetet which means Fjord seat  It also has a nickname The Queen's Chair as it was dedicated bu Queen Sonja in 2003 . As you can see my Queen is currently occupying the chair .

I think I am confused - what port did you get off of when you took your pictures into Geriangerfjord? When you were in Eagle Road, etc...

The port of Alesund . It was about a 2 hour drive through tunnels and a ferry boat crossing as a short cut .

At this point Radmyla gave us the choice of a smaller boat that was pretty that went to the waterfalls or another ferry boat that went past the falls to Hellesylt . We went with her recommendation and opted for the ferry .

Thanks for that info!  We were in Switzerland years ago on a land tour sponsored by our bank.  We were based in Lucerne, a beautiful place.  Although lunch wasn't included, I think they always took us to a restaurant where we were touring that day (went into Germany at least once) so never had to go to a fast food place <g>.

On our last TA, we sailed as far as Flam, which looks to be about 50 miles south of Geiranger, as the crow flies.  Scenery quite similar.  We had to sail about 50 miles up fjords to get there.

Interesting! We had both as ports so I did both. I will have to look at a map. Both are such beautiful areas.

Yea - McDonalds in Germany or Switzerland  just doesn't sound any more appealing than here 🙂

Our ferry had come in and it was time to unload before we could board . A young man came to collect our ferry fee which we paid in cash . He seemed confused since almost everyone in Norway uses a credit card .

Wow , which ship was that Mic ? We've read that the goal is that only zero emissions ships will able to go after 2026 .

I did the trip in 2018 on the Sapphire Princess. We dropped people off in Hellesylt (which is when I got off) for tours and then the ship continued onto Gerianger.

The Sapphire Princess will not meet the new standards. I am glad I went when I did but would love to return.
