Do you Clean or wipe down things in your cabin upon arrival

Yes I have, and have been for about the last two years. 
 

I started an after one of the big Noro  outbreaks. 
 

And, even prior to Covid   I used a sanitizing wipe  after I gave my menu back to a server.  On the rare occasion I used the buffet, i used a hand wipe once again after I had handled all the serving tongs and before I started eating  Touch elevator buttons with knuckles.  This is my MO regardless if I am on land or at sea, and has been for the last few years.

We wipe down the drawers and storage cabinets too .  Then leave them open to air out for a little while .

Dirty socks and underwear could have been residing in those drawers a few hours before we got there .

That's exactly what we've been doing for many years.

Most of those activities take 10 seconds or less (menus/buttons).

Disinfecting an entire room takes about 5 minutes or so.  Not sure why everyone wouldn't.  And if rely 100% on stewards doing it, you'd be mistaken.  Have you ever seen how busy they are on turnover day?

Same here. We took a smaller package of wipes on our last cruise in October. We really paid attention to door knobs, drawers, and especially the tv remote and phone.

I don’t discriminate against cruise ships. I do the same cleaning  procedure i mentioned above also in hotel rooms

To me, the pillow is one of the nastiest things in the room.  Many people have drooled/breathed on the same pillow you are using.  Sure it has a pillow case, but unless that pillow case is airtight (it's not), there's a lot of germs escaping the pillow every time you put your head on it.

We clean everything in the cabin that we will be touching,remote control,door handles,coffee maker ,safe,etc, We never put underwear directly in drawers.We bring plastic bags for our underwear.We thoroughly check the bedding for bed bugs.

We clean everything with Lysol several times a day for every day on the cruise.

We have been doing this for 25 years.

In the restaurants we smell beverages served to us because at times the glass is not clean.

We never use fingers to press elevator buttons.We take Purell with us in the Casino and on shore excursions.

As soon as I enter the cabin for the first time I get one of those flannels and wash absolutely everything I might touch

 

I put drawer liners in and the coast hangers have a shower

 

I put the cushions and the bed runner thing in the wardrobe and ask the steward to leave them there

Never occurred to me to do that; there are far too many other things and people onboard  that would make all that work a futile exercise in my opinion.

We have never done that on a cruise ship, hotel or airplane.

I can understand heightened caution now or even during regular flu season but I don’t understand the aim of this. You cannot live in a bubble. Before you reach the ship you most likely travel by multiple types of transportation. You will have interacted with check in desks and hostesses. Your luggage will have been handled my several sets of hands. The human body has evolved to fight pathogens which enter it. Trying to live in a sterile environment weakens that natural mechanism. I’m not suggesting people lick elevator buttons. Just practice regular hand washing and live your life.

I have also never had hand sanitizer in my house ever and never will.  I hate it.  Give me good ole water and soap any day!!  Never wiped down my cabin on a ship, the cart handle in a store, my airplane seat, etc.  And I still probably will not.

I bring a mini can of Lysol, hand sanitizer, foam anti bacterial dial, ass wipes, and Clorox or Lysol wipes.

Couldn’t you save some space in your luggage by substituting the Clorox wipes for the other wipes?

I’ve never wiped down a cabin, probably won’t do it in the future. 
I’ve always carried hand sanitizer in my purse and my car. I spent far too much time at softball games for my kids and grandkids, breezes kicking up baseball dust and some parks with porta-potties but no hand washing stations made that a necessity years ago!!

Always.  Started this more than 10 years ago.  Just habit.  Nothing to do w Covid 19.  Don't leave home without disinfecting wipes.

I do wipe down the cabin with sanitizing wipes when we arrive.  I bring the small package (about the size of a package of makeup remover wipes) and started doing this about 2 years ago when there was crud in the drawers on MJ and it grossed me out.  Yuck!  Also, we’ve boarded ships that had noro on the previous cruise, so a boarding wipe down couldn’t hurt, right?  I wear gloves (cause it feels like the wipes melt my nail polish) so no worries, I should still have all my immunity bacteria intact!

 

We’ve never carried or used hand sanitizer on/off the ship, but we were on a B2B Feb 21- March 13 this year and we brought an anti-bacterial pump hand soap for the cabin.  It was innocent enough - I always have and do wash my hands often and the bar soap provided by RCL makes a mess on the side of the sink. We bought the pump soap at the Dollar Tree and turns out, after listening to the news on the ship in mid-March,, we were glad we did!

I try not to think about it but it is a not so nice fact.
