ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted May 17, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2020 Royal & Celebrity according to what I read, they are to start June 12th. So I wanted to book a cruise for June 15th. My TA just emailed me saying to hold off on it. She got word that might change to sometime in August. Checking further, Carnival to start August 1st for select ports and Ships. I also read yesterday Royal Caribbean is in major financial trouble. That might be why they show the much sooner cruising dates than other cruise lines. I hope they do start June 12th. danv3 Posted May 17, 2020 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2020 August 1 would be an absolute best-case scenario, to be honest.

lenquixote66 Posted May 18, 2020 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2020 Cruises should not return until every person has the opportunity to take either a vaccine or an equivalent in a pill form. When will cruised return ? Probably sometime in 2021.

jrapps Posted May 18, 2020 #16 Share Posted May 18, 2020 No sooner than 6 months form now at BEST. I have Thanksgiving 2020 booked and right now I think we have a 50% chance of this cruise actually sailing, and that's 188 days from now! There is just too much uncertainty. Cruises will be one of the LAST things to resume. We still need to have every local business open, Theme Parks resume to 100% operation, give it a month or 2 to ensure no major 2nd wave, and for cruise lines to specifically publish how they intend to keep people safe, if they will social distance, will pools and kids clubs be open, etc.
Cowboys4ever Posted May 18, 2020 #17 Share Posted May 18, 2020 I don't know when but it will be sooner rather than longer at this point, IMO. 6 months as suggested or a full year from now, no way. If that is the case, there will not be any cruising anymore. They will all fold. People make those types of predictions based on what we feel today. But they exclude what will happen tomorrow. Testing for 1. I live near Galveston TX, a huge port for both Carnival and RC. Testing is readily available in my county - Galveston CO. Tx. Anyone that wants a test can get one and it is free. While that is not the case all over, it will be soon I would think. Also with the advancements in rapid tests and antibody test, I could see a point before October anyway, where you bring a dr statement saying you the antibodies and are covid free or you take a rapid test before admission to the ship. They could install thermal scanners on the ship that will auto detect fevers, etc. I think we will be sailing again long before the end of the year, my best guess is July or August, September at the very latest. There will be changes and different rules, I doubt buffets will be offered for a while yet and i would bet a lot of the casino slots will be turned off to promote distancing. Shows half full etc. But we will be back on cruise ships and soon!

JT1962 Posted May 18, 2020 #21 Share Posted May 18, 2020 Regardless of when they begin sailing again, it won’t immediately be all ships sailing again. All of the cruise lines CEOs have said they will begin with a limited number of ships and add more ships each month if things go well. The NCLH CEO said they would add approximately 5 ships per month once they start sailing again and it would take 5-6 months to have all of the ships across their 3 lines sailing again. So even if a few ships sail in August, it will probably be into 2021 before all ships would be sailing again.

EscapeFromConnecticut Posted May 19, 2020 #24 Share Posted May 19, 2020 Cruising will not resume until the CDC says it can resume. The CDC No Sail Order is long - but it's a crucial document to read for anyone who wants to understand the facts about when cruising will or won't start. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/04/15/2020-07930/no-sail-order-and-suspension-of-further-embarkation-notice-of-modification-and-extension-and-other About halfway down is an itemized list: The subsections under #3 are particularly important. The order doesn't expire until July 24, and the smart money is on an extension after that.
