That's great. My 90 year old mother lives in Westchester and has no idea when she can get one

Yeah I know it is super hard to get an appointment. My uncle in Long Island was told April...he didn’t make the appointment and when he called back he was told July. That is why I am thankful I was able to get it through my job.
I hope your mom gets an appointment soon. FYI outside of the normal pain in the arm neither of us had any kind of side effects, I hope it is the same for your mother. My boss has been achey and “feeling off” since the vaccination.

I get my second shot this morning. Will be so happy to have this behind me. Anyway, did the rapid test last week, no sign of the antibody. Guess they were right when they said you need both injections.

The rapid tests don't screen for antibody they screen for antigen. Your negative test ment you were not showing evidence of infection.

Ocean Boy is correct.  The rapid test and the PCR test are just a snapshot in time.  At that moment you did not have a covid infection.  There is a separate antibody test that will let you know if you have the antibodies either from a past infection or vaccination.

Any reasons why flu season was mild this year? Masking and social distancing maybe

Which is precisely why masks will be worn on cruise ships forever after this. Not on land perhaps but on cruise ships. They won't want to get sued. Mark my words.

Let me see if I can find the tests that was given to us at the hospital. The Nurse actually stated it would test for the antibody, and it actually showed up that way for a few of the nurses that were tested at the same time. It showed three different results......red stripes.

I have already had shot #1, I get my 2nd one in 3 weeks. I am thankful I was able to get it through my job otherwise I would be at the bottom of the waiting list.
When they announced the over 75’s, it took me 3 days of stalking the NYC COVID website to get my mother an appointment so she is 4 days behind me on her 2nd shot appointment but if it becomes a cruise line requirement we will both be ready.

Will you cruise is smoking indoors is banned?

I pick social distance.

With work from home and remote learning ,the usual "flu incubators" such as office buildings and schools are sitting empty or at reduced capacity. When one person gets sick in office complex, it seems everyone get sick over the next several weeks. Add to that reduced travel, less dense event such as concerts, sporting events, cruises, etc.

I got a flu shot for he first time in my life at my doctor's office urging. The reason being that if I developed "flu-like" symptoms, it would be easier to diagnosis me.  I wonder how many others got flu shots for the first time, hence the mild flu season.

Is that a blood test

If the cruise lines in general decide that they want their passengers on their early starting-back-up sailings, then for many families, their cruise will not take place. Children will likely not be vaccinated for at least 12 months, especially now that there appears to be an increase in allergic reactions to the Moderna vaccine. In addition,  I live in NY in the Hudson Valley, the surrounding counties along with my own have been out of vaccine since last week and have been told that we will be getting even less this coming week- 225,000 for 20 million people. We are currently in Phase 1a & 1b and appointments for those phases are filled up for the next four months and for six months in other areas.  The allocation and distribution have been a disaster.

I don't think they would but I think it is also understood or assumed that most people onboard have probably had it.

I don’t remember the statistics, but that may be a stretch.  Count me among those who have never received a flu shot nor experienced flu symptoms.

If it is will you let the cruiseline stick a needle in you? I for one would probably not. That is going too far.

They would never do an antibody test. First of all it is not a fast turn around test. Secondly, they are not going to care if you have antibodies. All they want to know is that you are not testing positive for the virus. Thirdly, how long would it take to do a venapuncture on 6000 arriving guests?

No such thing is going to occur.

No need to mark your words. It won’t happen as in forever. Maybe in the beginning  for a while, but not forever.

How else will they keep from being sued by people for getting Covid or even Flu for that matter on a cruise ship?.  I don't know how it works in America but in UK we have slimey ambulance chasers ringing up people asking if they got sick on an all inclusive holiday like these resorts in Spain and Egypt and putting claims in for them. Not for millions only for a few thousand maybe. But they still do it. Ok might be harder to prove with Covid but I am sure they will try.

At some point it will come down to customers.  If they can fill the ships with mask wearing, restricted excursion customers then that will continue.  If at some point people will be happier to spend their money on land where there are not the same restrictions then things will change.

I have never had a single vaccine in my life, just like my family and we see no reason of having this vaccine either. Its just another type of flue which is mutating every year. You do a vaccine now, then there is another type of virus and so on..

Hopefully the cruise lines will require a vaccine so that those who don't understand how dangerous they are to other humans won't be sailing with us.

^^^^^^^^

+1.

One year into this mess and the naysayers are still unconvinced.

BTW, nine 747-400s worth of passengers died yesterday from a "flue"-like illness. 🙄

So my question. What happens to the sample they take beyond being tested for antibody?. Will they test for other medical conditions if they can? Diabetes or STD's or who knows what?. Does it get passed to I don't know your FBI and added into your CODIS  database that they speak of on CSI? Or in UK does it get put into our DNA database? If so I would like to be informed of it, consent to it and not have it done behind my back.

I have little doubt that the Covid precautions have collectively made a big dent in the cold/flu season.

That being said, there is an argument that the herd benefits from exposure to viruses. How many times throughout history have foreigners brought disease to previously isolated populations with devastating consequences. (When Martians invade Earth, Covid will be our best defense. 😉)

In any event, I'm probably going to continue wearing a mask during cold/flu season indefinitely just as my hand washing routine permanently changed after watching the "Wash Your Hands" video. Thank you Royal Caribbean for making frequent hand washing second nature to me long before this mess began. I can't wait to wash my hands on board your ships again.
