I suspect we're going to need them for any kind of international travel.

I wonder if those of us in the USA will require some sort of electronic proof of immunization (like an APP) - those little slips of paper would be too easy to counterfeit.

NY has one that downloads your info from the DOH website. Every vaccine given in NY is supposed to be entered into that database.

Should be easy...except we got ours at the VA hospital where we work. They put our info into their occupational health database which uploads into a national CDC database. So when we downloaded the NY app, it couldn't find us. Bugger.

Still, we are vaccinated, which is the most important thing. Some day we will be able to prove it!

Did you get the daily text questionnaire from vsafe.cdc.gov?  That tells me my info is in the national database, which is probably what IATA etc. will want to link to.

We did two short hikes today, about an hour from home. One was Sloan Gorge, a walk through a Gorge with a stream, rock squeeze, and lots of icicles.

The chimney. A narrow passage.

Then we hiked to the Ashokan quarry. They took stone from here to build the dam creating the reservoir, one that supplies NY City. The view of the Catskills was beautiful today.

Here is a loading station (the stone walls are all that's left). Railroad cars pulled up and the stone was dumped in from above. Then the locomotive pulled the cars three miles to the site of the dam.

The quarry. And a close up of a tree in full bud next to some icicles trying to hang on a little longer. Spring vs winter...

Home for some refreshments. Fake poutine but very tasty. It hit the spot after all that hiking.

Almost time to soak in the hot tub. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

No. Knowing our VA and their "prowess" with all things IT, I am sure they have managed to bungle it somehow.

I registered with that site 2 days after my first dose. I was over any arm soreness by then so I felt stupid registering when I did. I think they emailed me weekly after the first week and I did get an email today asking if I had gotten my 2nd. I like how it says "the CDC may call you based on your info".... I was thinking of all of my friends who had the J&J who should have registered with the site.

There's a lot of political pushback regarding an immunization passport.  I don't see what the problem is.  If you don't want or need one, don't get it, same as a regular passport.

I think it is important to register with such a government site. My elderly relative suffered a bit and I was going to help her send a paper info (instead of electronic reply) to the authorities. But it was a little difficult to differentiate between aches and pains of age and winter and vaccine aches. In the end we did not send info, it seemed minor. But especially with relatively healthy people it is good to reply as we are in the phase four where authorities and vaccine producers rely on info from the vaccine being out in the general public. If something unusual happens to your body and/or mind within a certain time after a vaccine you should always mention both the condition and the date of your vaccination.

I think some states don't want situations such as "only those with vaccines can go to this concert or whatever".

I agree with you!

I checked my state vaccine website (that @acwmommentioned) 2 days after I got my first vaccine and it was listed.

Edited to add - I just checked the site and my 2nd vaccine from today is listed. Impressed. The past list of my vaccines is sketchy though.

Actually, 2 different sites. The Vsafe is optional. I encourage everyone to register, so we can measure true side effects. State (or jurisdictional) registries are totally different.

Be careful if you go to the Galapagos.  All the Blue-Footed Boobies will be trying to mate with Chris! 🤣

Happy Easter everyone!

Just before Easter 2019 I was in Alsace. The French love decorating for Easter it seems so they also do the roundabouts. This one is at Ribeauvillé

Today is our second "Corona-Ostern", yes, we have even got a name for that :classic_wink:, and things are quiet. But I have already been given chocolate eggs, so I have something to nibble on while cooking the lamb...

LOL Jazz. It's a fair point. We were there in 2011 so no return trip planned yet. But I could see them getting a bit confused...

We have that up here, as well as them saying that if used for travel, some won't be able to travel.  Sorry, but it's private companies who run concerts, and other countries who allow travel.  If that's their rules, you get a passport.  Just like getting a passport & visa to visit countries.  Yes, it's not overly fair for those who live in countries who haven't had a full on roll out yet, but then maybe they shouldn't be travelling or in large groups until their country has things under control.  Saw an article today that the "youth" in the UK are upset because they are also looking at passports, and since they haven't had the vaccine yet, they won't be able to get one.  All the "old people" will be able to go to Europe's beaches and they have to stay in the UK.  Their turn will come. 🙂

I saw an interesting article this morning that the expats living in Europe are coming back to the US to get their COVID vaccines as they are months away in Europe from getting the jab.

If they are under 40 that is certainly true. But things will improve soon for those over 40 in many European countries, there has even been some shifting around from country to country, i.e. not completely following population quota anymore.

The preparations for the vaccine package tours to Russia are well under way. Seriously, a travel company appears to be going to offer these.

Here is one article - not sure if it is which one I read: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/united-states-expats-returning-for-vaccinations-cmd/index.html

The lamb is cooking in the oven, I decided to nibble on English biscuits instead of my Easter eggs and the sun is shining over a cool Rhine valley.

I am really sad that almost all Easter traditions are affected, not just here but around the world. In Russia they will still be able to eat lambs made out of butter, but will the Czech be allowed to whip women this year? I mean, that is not really social distancing, is it? :classic_wink:https://www.euronews.com/travel/2021/04/04/from-butter-lambs-to-whipping-women-the-strangest-easter-traditions-from-around-the-world

Good grief! To the custom of whipping or dousing women with cold water I say “no thanks”!

SIL and neighbors have their Easter hams in the oven. Since I am not overly fond of ham, I think I will just OD on junk today.

Plenty of snacks & candy on hand. 😁
